i didn’t think this would turn into a hitbox thread lol
imo it’s in the same category as a stick because of the case and button placement. The difference between pad/stick is in the buttons. Both are equally dexterous for directions and there’s no movement technique that can’t be done on both
but on a pad it’s usually just thumb and index finger for the attack buttons.
In Blazblue I made it work easily…for characters like Carl and Kokonoe I just have R2 as my Drive so I can hold drive and still use A/B/C independently
As for May in Guilty Gear or Gen in SF4…not sure lol
I’m the hitbox sales team (or am I?). Mine is arriving tomorrow, so excited to try it out - but I had to pay £30 in customs charges, didn’t realise they wouldn’t include that in the price rip…
I know people feel some type of way about homie doing the review but he is the only one I have seen that actually compares with last gen fightpads and you can see the difference on video. I got the black Shadowloo one on pre order.
In the time I’ve been playing SF4, I’ve seen numerous pro players mock pad players whilst commenting on streams etc. The irony is that by the end of SF4’s lifespan, the top 3 U.S players were arguably Nuckledu, Snake Eyez and Smug.
Depends what you mean by equal. In the realms of arcade gaming , pads will never be King. The reason most people played stick is because of their support for local arcades. That’s why you don’t see any Japanese players playing pad - even the girls.
For me the Hitbox was by far the most intuitive device to pick up and use. I guess maybe due to being an older PC gamer where WASD to move and Space to jump already kind of makes sense. I’ve been playing SF for a long ass time and I have never been good with a joystick, but it’s always been more fun than playing on a pad or keyboard (both of which I had better execution on) because of the buttons. Once I found out about Hitbox I ordered a PS3/PC one and it’s pretty much the best of all worlds for how my brain is wired. Own three of them now (X1 version just got here today for KI and SF5 PC) and wouldn’t go back for anything, even though I still sometimes add other devices to my collection.
I don’t know if I feel there is a ton of advantage to a Hitbox when playing a motion-based character; you still get the benefit of very precise motion inputs but I feel like there is a somewhat similar adjustment period in terms of learning combos with motion input specials. I’m a charge character guy, though (Bison for the most part since SF2) and I’ll tell you that Hitbox fucking owns for charge characters. I honestly think it is a straight up advantage compared to any other device. Stuff like Guile’s Flash Kick xx Super in USF4 is borderline trivial to do on a Hitbox whereas I still can hardly even do it on a joystick (not that that particular combo is amazingly useful just an example of weird charge-based shit to try and pull off). Keyboard is similarly advantageous in this regard input-wise, though the buttons themselves are not nearly as ideal on a keyboard (and I have no idea if there is even a way to use a keyboard on either current console).
