Well, he is right about us having absolutely no cures for viral infections. Right now vaccines are your only hope. While there still remains a need for new antibacterials the field is no where near as sketchy as trying to shut down viruses (although I dont know which would be considered ‘more deadly’).
Where i mildly disagree with that dude is where he says that there are no real advances in HIV treatment/it is not important. HIV probably has the widest range of effective treatment out of any of the viral infections (despite it benig a particulary tricky beast even among viruses). Life expectancy for patients has increased dramatically (and this is probabnly a big deal to most). This is of course because of people’s collective interest in finding a cure for this deadly viral infection (that may be largely avoidable; and may or may not reveal a society’s lack of respect for sex in general, hahaa). And that is what I consider the best criterion for importance; general interest. And this is also what drives the market. And whether you think this is for better or worse (it is for the better), medicine is a business.
and no conspiracy here imo, scientists that work at companies are 1000s of normal people that know people who have died of these horrible diseases and want to eradicate them just like everyone else does. The argument that there is no money in the cure is also funny. Pharma will G off. Sure maybe reseach grants might go elsewhere, but academics are excellent at adapting and bullshitting their way into the taxpyers pockets.

You saying I’m equivocating or goodmourning? Because goodmourning is intentionally misconstruing acerbic’s post to mean that he doesn’t want a cure for AIDS which isn’t what he said at all. What he said was that there is no cure for AIDS because it’s a virus and that in his opinion there are other priorities.
