Yeah since the Wii U is like a boat taking on water.
Then again if Nindy actually cared, they would reverse their policies on claiming copyright infringement on internet videos.
I say what I said in the Video Game thread of the General topic board, no “one cares about the Wii U” as the Wii U burned too many bridges.
If you are right, Nintendo is trying to repair the damage with there relationship with gamers who aren’t die-hard Nintendo fans.
I think the permanent damage is already done.
But I also if the adapter actually happens, the adapter could be viewed as a cash grab (assuming they are going to reissue the GC pads too).
the most recent re-run of the gamecube controller was in japan with the revered white controller with longer cord length. it has gone up in price from ~28 to 50 bones on amazon. it would be cool if they made another run for the new smash bros though. the OEM GC pads are tough to refurbish and the 3rd party pads are really crappy.
tbh though i don’t see another rerun happening. the wii had much more titles supporting the GC controller and the newer Wii U only has like one. its too bad the gamecube console wasn’t more popular. i remember seeing OEM PS2 controllers on sale at wal-mart back in 2011-2012.
Going on a random tangent rant because there’s been mention of the Wii-U GameCube controller adaptor: I absolutely hate it when Nintendo does this.
My first example: Wii’s Classic Controller. They spend time & money to R&D this thing. Then they announce that they support GC controllers for Smash Bros Brawl. Classic Controller sales never pick up.
Second example: this new Wii-U GC controller adaptor. Once this is out for Smash4, BOTH Classic Controller and the Wii-U Pro Controller sales will be cannibalized and essentially taken over.
Nintendo has been giving their userbase TOO many damn options, and at least one of those options is using a GC Controller; ie, you don’t need to buy their new stuff! Just keep using your old controllers!.. WTF.
Nintendo needs to stop giving their users options. Pick ONE control scheme, and force the userbase to use it. You wanna play Smash Bros Brawl? Use the damn Classic Controller. Wanna play Smash4? Use a Wii-U Pro Controller. Want to use a GC Controller? Just stay in 2001 and play Smash Bros Melee.
This is you “man I hate when they give me options that let me save money!”
Wii Classic controller is great for 2d games but 3D games suffer from very poor design on the analog sticks, ya know those things you need to play Smash with.
At this point the Gamecube controller is to smash what 6 button arcade sticks are to SF, get over it. You can still use your precious new controllers… OH WAIT you can’t they’re wireless. This adapter basically saved the WiiU as far as competitive games go.
Get this: On WiiU, you can use your Wii stuff too. That must drive you nuts inside.
I guess I wasn’t too clear. I’m not saying that having compatibility was a bad thing for the end consumer, in fact, it’s great because it saves us all money and all that stuff. I’m sure we all agree on this part, right? There’s really no arguing here.
My gripe is just Nintendo’s business choices: It comes down to them going:
We spent money to make new gadgets!
But wait! You don’t have to use ANY of our new gadgets!
Oh… our new gadgets aren’t selling.
Oh… we’re not doing well this fiscal year…
It’s not the backwards compatibility part that bothers me directly per se; it’s Nintendo’s attitude to their own unbelivably poorly-supported first-party peripherals.
For example, for the Wii, if they were fully intent on allowing the use of the GC controller for Smash Bros Brawl, forget about the Classic Controller entirely! Why waste money on R&D for that when you have something that not only the public likes MORE, but also almost everyone already has?
I guess this translates into the flipside: if they’re going to spend time & money to engineer new toys for us, shouldn’t they be pushing hard us to use their new toys?
But so far they have only said that they are in a bundle with the adapter. What if I wanted 4 controllers? Hopefully you wont have to buy 4 adapters. I don’t think Nintendo is that stupid though. The controllers should be available independently.
