Wii Thread 4.0, WEEUWEEUWEEUWEE!

Saw some trailers for Other M a few days ago.
A metroid game that doesn’t look like shit? I might actually have get this game when I buy my new wii in November.

You didn’t like the Prime series Stuart?

I don’t like Metroid in general really.I played Metroid and Super Metroid, wasn’t really impressed with them. I tried the GBA one and after about 4 hours in I got incredibly bored. I haven’t tried the Prime series though due to said disdain towards the previously mentioned games.

if the Primes don’t play like the traditional Metroid series, I’d likely love them. Because that’s the thing that appeals to me the most about Other M. It doesn’t look or play anything like a traditional metroid game.

The prime series are more puzzle oriented then anything else.

I still only have 3 games (zelda, ssbb, and sonic secret rings which I actually kinda like) I know wii has at least a few really amazing games but since 07 ps3/360 have been in nonstop beast mode I won’t get to smg2 for a while let alone M:sad:

I’m scared for Other M simply because everything Team NINJA touches turns to suck.

yeah Ivy the Kiwi didn’t show up in my store either. It wasn’t even available for reserve either so I imagine the people that want the game may have to do some digging for it. When you get it and play it give us a heads up on how it is.

Prime series is basically Metroid played through Samus’ view. The exploration, the isolation and pretty much everything that makes Metroid what it is in the games but the view has just been shifted and put into 3D…that’s my opinion though. Some people didn’t like Prime 3 since it had more people around than normal…the same complaint that some people are giving Other M right now. If you don’t mind exploration mixed in with your First Person besides just shooting stuff then I’d say give it a try at least to see if like it or better you could look at a few parts of a walkthrough to see if it interests you.

Edit:

Isn’t this the first game Team Ninja has done since Oatmeal face’s departure? does quick search…oh yeah forgot about Dead or Alive Paradise…Should that even really be counted?

I will say this though. I will buy Epic Mickey. The game looks absolutely well…for lack of a better word. Epic.
Mickey Mania on Steroids.

Metroid Other M came into the store today. It’s going to be sitting in the backroom laughing at me for the next few days since I won’t be able to pick it up day 1.

NHL 2K11sounds like it picked up more flaws than last year according to IGN’s review. Find it funny since they actually focused on the Wii version alone this year and it ends up not as great as last years when they had to make the game for the other consoles as well. GI apparently had complaints with this year as well.

Nintendo is also going to be at PAX this year…with what sounds like mostly the same builds that everyone has been playing since E3 however they’re actually going to be showing off a new Wii Ware game called Fluidity that sounds kinda interesting.

Some reviews for Metroidhave been rolling out…Most so far have been in the 9-8.0 range confirming the ‘solid but flawed’ feeling. The lowest scores so far coming from GI, Destructoid, and G4TV…and they’re pretty low out of the average (G4TV 2/5, GI 6.25 and, Destructoid 6.5). So far I’m betting the Metroid fanbase is gonna be split on this game where there are people who are gonna hate it through every fiber of their being and there are going to be some that actually enjoyed it.

I’m pretty sure some of you guys are going to buy it regardless to get your own take on it as will I. I need to hurry up and finish Super Metroid.

Edit:

I’m sure the way how power-ups in this game are handled are probably gonna be parodied in some fashion though.

Samus: I’M IN A FUCKIN LAVA PIT CAN I USE THE VARIA SUIT NOW!?
Adam:…hmmmmmmmmmmmmm…strokes chin
Samus: Skin…getting…stuck to…suit…
Adam:…nnnope…can’t say I want to authorize this.

Woohoo! My copy of Ivy the Kiwi came in today (thanks Amazon!) I’ll return to edit this post with a few words about my experience later this evening.

Edit:
Ivy the Kiwi has impressed me quite a bit within under 30 minutes of play. applause Already I feel very compelled to work at mastering this game.
I want the medals, I want the red feathers, and I want to put up some amazing Total Scores, part of which will come from runs that don’t include a Game Over screen! shock Yes, this is going to be “unlocking Master in Super Monkey Ball” levels of difficult. Maybe even worse! Right now, I am having a ball just getting used to controlling Ivy, which is done indirectly by “drawing” vines to dictate Ivy’s path as he/she scurries along blindly. When I guide Ivy with finesse (even briefly), a smile sneaks out. This game is fun, folks. And it’s going to be incredible once I really get the hang of it all.

The visuals are nice and I’m digging the music. I’m only at Chapter 2, but I’ll be playing this game intensely until Other M comes out.

Get it! Order it from Amazon or whatever!

Getting Metroid: Other M. Looks hella fun. Only problem is though that the Wiimote SSSSSSUCKS as a classic style controller, and yet it’s absolutely necessary since you need the pointer function…

By the way, Metroid: Other M = M:OM, as in, Mother.

Man…I"m looking at several different reviews and it seems barely any of them can agree on certain things. Some enjoy the story, others find it dumb. Some find the voice acting to be horrible, some are digging it. Some are saying it’s too linear and easy to get through, others are saying you can get lost without a clear direction on what to do next. It’s all over the place lol.

^reminds me of Bayonetta impressions

I loved Bayonetta, by the way. That game was a masterpiece to me. Folks said there were cringe-worthy moments in the cutscenes, but I enjoyed every bit of it. Some even thought some of the music (like the battle theme) was ridiculous, but I loved it before the game even came out.

I agree looks like its one of those things you have to see for yourself also I still think its odd that its not coming out on sunday.

I don’t like the fact that I heard the very thing that fucked up Ninja Gaiden games in the reviews: off-camera enemies all over the place.

I’m hoping it doesn’t elicit the same response I had to Ninja Gaiden when I play it.

meh…I’m not worried so much about that in comparison to Ninja Gaiden because of the way how the game plays in comparison. Small attacks that are coming from you off screen don’t equal to rockets and explosive kunais. It’s definitely going to be a nuisance but I can’t see it being controller breaking worthy.

Edit:

I read on the forums that Morgan Webb seemed to hate this game more than most and even seemed to throw in some ‘i’m insulted as a woman’ issues into it as well. I really didn’t want to look up the but I decided against my better judgement…

I can see a lot of people having mixed feelings about Samus being apparently kinda whiny, if in fact she is.

I guess this is why, as lame as it is, Nintendo never wants to give Link an actual personality and voice. The nerdrage if he wasn’t exactly as the fans wanted him to be would probably cause the entire planet to implode.

Sonichuman: How do we know the Metroids don’t have rocket launchers…? DUN DUN DUNNNNNN.

Morgan quite frankly shows how little she actually knows about Samus. She complains that she’s all emo over Adam…she was ALWAYS emo over Adam. Hell, it’s a HUGE deal in Metroid Fusion. It’s just that in this game, we see and hear it (unlike Fusion and the databooks where we’re just reading about it). Other complaints are perfectly valid, like the having to switch from pointer to NES-style sideways (I had a feeling there would be some issues with that) and the recharging missiles and health by fucking standing there. Seriously, Team NINJA?

I’m still buying the game, but I’m fully expecting to rage after a bazooka wielding ninja-space pirate fires off camera and ganks me.

EDIT: Oh, and if nerdrage over Samus actually causes Link to never get full voice acting (which he should get), I would lose faith in humanity.

DOUBLE EDIT: OH, and I forgot to touch on the review’s claim that they “sexualize” Samus…fucking what? This is Team NINJA we’re talking about, them showing an Meryl-esque ass shot when the camera moved up is nowhere near what they could’ve done. And if that complaint was directed towards her Zero Suit…where was she when Brawl came out? Or how about the old Metroids where she wore a effing bikini? Nintendo actually improved her standing as the “strong female” by giving her the Zero Suit, because the alternative in 3D would have been…yeah.

Probably going to pass on metroid after reading how they binned the stuff I liked about the series. Maybe they’ll do a real game on the 3ds at some point.

I doubt whiny will be the word for it, though some will surely try to apply it to our Samus. She’s going to be reflecting in this game. She’s going to talk about what was/is on her mind. She’s going to express herself the way she knows how. Her experiences shaped her just as experiences shape everyone. She’s going to be different and emotional, and folks/trolls/whatever are going to confuse that with “awkward”, whiny, and cringe-worthy. If folks stop to think and imagine about the facts of what she’s come from, maybe they can have more of an open mind/imagination about things like how she sounds and her diction in her speech, the importance she places on events of her past enough to reflect on them the way she does in Other M. Basically, people need to stop thinking they made this character and either accept who she is or stop pretending they’re fans of her. Because in Other M, we are going to get a good dose of her. We’re going to get major parts of her story. I’m insanely ready for this thing.
