Wii Thread 4.0, WEEUWEEUWEEUWEE!

Apparently I had Dead Space Extraction on reserve and I didn’t even realize it lol. I won’t be able to pick it up until I get paid this Friday so you won’t hear any impressions from me until possibly Saturday. I’ll try to set aside some time to play it.

I also got 2 wii motion pluses earlier and got a chance to sword fight people in Wii Sports Resort. Was pretty fun especially if you’re actually the only fuckin one using block and not trying to swing around wildly in hopes that you’ll get lucky. Picking apart your opponent is pretty satisifying.

Valhalla Knights: Edar Saga Now shipping in North America

why does this game look like it came from the Dreamcast era?

A Sitdown with Suda 51

Lol @ the first question and his answer. Some small info on NMH2 and Suda can’t say anything about his horror title he’s making with EA besides the protagonist’s watch.

Square-Enix Working on 2-3 Big, New Projects

not necessarily Wii related mind you and it sounds like Wada has a lot of confidence in these new projects…2010 is getting more interesting by the weeks.

Nintendo Celebrates 120th Birthday:

founded in 1889…didn’t start doing gaming till much later. Nintendo is an old fogey.

Think it’d be worth it to squat on a new Wii to make a few extra bucks during the holidays? Is the demand still high for these things?

Read: Should I single-handedly inflate the American economy and be an asshole for the holidays by selling a Wii new in the box for way more than what I bought it for?

I can second this. If you enjoyed Boxing on the first one (which I thought was pretty bad ass once you learned the mechanics), you’re really gonna love swordfighting on Resort. After 5 or 6 matches in a row, I actually lost once or twice because I was too tired to keep swinging and my bro out-endured me. Pretty crazy.

Being the video game industry lover that I am…I’m going to tell you not to try and be an asshole and do that.

However…if you’re going to do it anyway the future on how the Wii will do this christmas season is hard to tell right now. Wii has some pretty big heavy hitters going into 2010 and plus a 199.99 price tag going into the season may very well attract the hardcore and the casual market. Sony and Microsoft’s price cuts are also a factor too…We’ve been selling slim’s like hot cakes. I’ve never seen PS3’s moved off the shelf this fast ever since the thing first came out…we might end up selling out this Christmas season but we’ve been doing good on keeping it in stock. If I was to tell you based off of the info that I have currently and what I’m seeing as of last month I’d tell you no don’t squat it…but it’s still hard to tell right now.

I’m seeing this game on the Wii that my girl seems to be enjoying called Agatha Christie. IT…IS…ASS. OMFG they cut so many fuckin corners with this game. I can’t remember the last time I saw PRERENDERED BACKGROUNDS. That shit is such a throwback…It’s like this game was made back in the late 90’s or something with Resident Evil and Final Fantasy 7. I look at this game and shake my head as I’m watching her play this and I’m like in awe of how assy this game is…and I’m straight up telling her that this game could have been done WAAAAYYY better…this game reeks of lazy.

yeah…I’m getting a sort of scribblenautsish feel from this game…it’s not gonna be as object specific as scribblenauts but drawing and solving problems in that way sounds pretty cool.

Mega, mega fail!!!

kinda sucks that some of those wii’s are getting bricked…I saw the report on that this morning. I will say however that it’s good that Nintendo is actually on the job quickly and offering to fix those wii’s that are bricking for free. This basically means that if the customer is just spouting out bullshit then Nintendo will know…and if they’re not then they get their wii fixed for free.

oh shit they gave Hinata the 64 strikes? And she can do the cancel dash in like neji now? Plus doing that long ass combo she’s had in GNT 4 into super!? I’m guessing she most have ‘Hinata’ mode and then ‘not so Hinata’ mode and that’s why she can do that with the glow around her. Looks like I might be adding Hinata to my team with Rock Lee…depending on if they nerfed my boy or not…GAI SENSEIIIIII!!! man tears with clenched fist

Dr. Fetus doesn’t like you

I’m not an absolute expert, but if boot2 is in fact corrupt, I don’t think Nintendo will be able to check the NAND for anything. Unless of course they start unsoldering the NAND chip, which I doubt they’d do just to check for homebrew… If homebrew users did brick boot2 by updating via Nintendo’s servers, they might just get lucky…

I picked up my copy of Dead Space Extraction today and I hope to get some time with it tonight…probably will play co-op…maybe.

Japan Numbers:

friend collection is beating everything again and the pokemans rule spot 2 and 3. I’m surprised ODST is in the top 10 over there.

Hardware side of things…Dsi is still beasting everything followed by the PS3. Good god man 100 dollars really does make a world of difference eh? rest goes PSP, Lite, Wii, 360, Ps2. Price changes on Wii didn’t come into effect yet in these numbers and PSP Go isn’t out yet. That’s still one hell of a fall from grace for Wii though…Dsi might have lost it’s tag team partner depending upon how next week looks.

Wii Fit Plus review:

8.2 For those who are interested

video review
http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/887115/wii-health-pack-/videos/wiifit2_vidrev_100209.html

So I did get to play some Dead Space last night and played a good 2 hours of it in co-op mode. It’s pretty fun though I wished we had put it on a higher difficulty setting. There haven’t really been too many really scary moments in the game but I’m not sure if that’s because of the current TV I’m playing on where the sound kinda sucks and the visuals aren’t as clear as I would like them to be or if it’s because I’m playing with someone else. I’ll find out when I start playing it alone some time this week. Having one person trying to fend off the necromorphs while the other is trying to do the hacking puzzle and switching is fun in itself since you have to be careful on certain sections and not touch the sides (IS IT WATER ON THE KNEEE!?) or you’ll have to do that section over again. The first co-op activity they had us do ended up with us getting killed because we didn’t communicate and figure out who was in control of the camera. They busted in and killed everybody lol. Bozon was definitely right though about entering a room and barely having any time to survey the surroundings before moving on. You’ll see something in the distance or on the edge of the camera RIGHT before it moves on and be like ‘FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU…’ which results in you and your partner entering a room and immediately TKing everything regardless of whether you think it can be pulled to you or not.

Overall based off of what I’ve played the game is definitely solid at this point it’s an 8.0 in my book. I don’t know if my opinion will change as I continue through it or not though. I do think if you’re a fan of Dead Space or you like rail shooters in general then this game you should definitely pick up.

Ok so I have to buy a Wii soon.

Can anyone comment on this peripheral or anything else that runs a Wii to monitor VGA input?

^ I’v eactually been sort of loooking for a vga cable for my own wii that way I can just use my computer monitor like I have been for my 360. What comments are you looking for exactly?

Quality I guess…

There’s a couple of (old) sizable threads on these cables on NeoGAF.

I think most of the impressions are favorable.

Picked up Wii fit Plus cause it was cheap. Mostly for multiplayer. I’ll let you know how it is…

Also, (Kotaku source, but they have links to their sources at the end) Monster Hunter Tri might not have monthly fees in the US, and might support Wii Speak. If this happens (no fees) I think I’ll definitely pick it up.

Incoming long post (if I’ve left anything out feel free to correct me)

Well going into the purchase of a Wii one of the first things you’re going to have to get over is the fact that its not as powerful as the 360/ps3 nor will most of the games look as good. The system only goes up to 480 and doesn’t touch 720 or 1080 so on certain monitors games will look reeeally bad from what I’ve heard. There also isn’t a standard achievements system set in place for Wii so if that’s something you fancy then you’ll be disappointed. It’s hard being a Wii only owner…especially for the past year. That being said though I enjoy my Wii myself and it still has a good selection of games to play…the problem is sifting through the plethora of crap that comes out on the system (if you’ve ever walked into a store that sold games and looked at the wall for Wii…it’s a travesty). Something else to consider is that most of the good titles that show up on this system won’t show up suddenly with better features and upgraded on either the 360/PS3…at least it hasn’t happened yet sense the system has been out.

It’s really all going to depend on what type of games you’re into:

The wii has been pretty light to crappy in the RPG department but there are a few…Fire Emblem (strategy), Phantom Brave (Strat…if you like disgaea you may want to look into this), Muramasa: The Demon Blade (action), and Rune Factory: Frontier. If you’ve played Tales of Symphonia for the Cube the sequal came out on the Wii but I’ve heard it wasn’t all that great…perhaps someone can confirm? Owners have Arc Rise Fantasia, Tales of Graces, Fragile, Monster Hunter 3, and FFCC: Chrystal Bearers to look forward too.

Fighters are on the system are good so long as you are given options in the control scheme… GG: Accent Core, Brawl (STFU…we’re not going into that), Samurai Showdown Anthology, Naruto CON series as well as plenty of virtual console fighters if that suits your fancy. You can play most the virtual console fighters with a stick so long as it has Gamecube support I believe…I don’t think they’ve made an arcade still that will just work off of the wii mote or sync to the wii itself. Most people are looking forward to Tatsunoku vs. Capcom (Frank West FTW!) and the new Naruto CON game will have online and looks pretty good.

For shooters you have The Conduit, COD: World at War, Medal of Honor Heroes 2. Personally for me if given the choice between dual analog and Wii mote controls I think the Wii mote controls are far better. Games in this department to look forward too are Red Steel 2 and The Grinder.

For platforming you have Super Mario Galaxy (people have said it’s the best platformer ever), Wario Land: Shake It and Super Paper Mario (RPGish). Games to look forward too in this department are New Super Mario Bros., A Boy and His Blob, and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

For Adventure titles you have LOZ: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Okami, Zack and Wiki (believe this would go here). Things to look forward too in this department will be Metroid: Other M.

Wii has been pretty light on good racing titles and if they’re good they’re more arcadey in nature. Mario Kart Wii and Excitebotsare what I’d reccommend currently. Need for Speed: Nitro will be out and that looks pretty good but it’s still arcadey. Wii is lacking in any good ‘serious’ racers.

Rail shooters seem to be something of a specialty on Wii. House of the Dead: Overkill, Dead Space Extraction and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles are good. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles will be out later this year and looks quite good.

Not many action titles on Wii but what it has is pretty unique. MadWorld and No More Heroes are recommended. No More Heroes 2 and Red Steel 2 (considering you’re slashing and shooting are practically equal…I think this would have be mentioned here as well) next year will be 2 good.

Sports has been pretty good on Wii but not outstandingly so save for a few cases, for the most part if you have one of the other systems you’ll probably play it on one of the other systems. Experiences like Tiger Woods 2010 and Grand Slam Tennis you won’t get from the other systems. If you’re planning to only own a wii then for hockey get NHL 2k10, Madden for football, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 for Soccer, and Wii Sports Resort for bowling and general (also allows you to pick up a Wii Motion Plus). There hasn’t been any basketball games that are good yet…though I find the couple of games on Resort to be fun.

Survival Horror has you looking at RE4: Wii edition but Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is shaping up to be pretty good. Ju-on The grudge looks somewhat good surprisingly but from an article I read it’s going to be a haunted house simulator.

If you’re planning on getting Wii Fit and want some other games for the Balance board…Skate It and Shaun White’s Snowboarding. The sequal to Shaun White will be out later this year.

Music games are good on this system if you’re into that. Guitar Hero 5 has the same features as it’s 360/ps3 brethren plus a couple more. Plus the Guitars work off of the Wii Mote so if you happen to have gotten some of the rechargable battery packs for them then you won’t have to worry about batteries unlikee the versions on the other systems.

There’s other games to play as well that I didn’t mention…one of them definitely being Punch-Out!!. There’s a list of titles and what not on the front page of this thread. Don’t forget there’s also the Wii Ware titles as well as GC titles that you can go back and play that you may have missed out on since the Wii is also 100% BC with GC and the back log of Virtual Console titles.

Perhaps I should include some type of Wii FAQ section on the front page?

sounds like No monthly fees = friend codes while Monthly fees = no friend codes. I don’t know what to think or which is the lesser of 2 evils. Both of them could deter different people…and if there are friend codes does that mean the quality of the online is going to go up or down since it won’t be on capcom’s servers?

and I’m interested in hearing about Wii fit Plus from you.

I see you’re hyped for dat Sin & Punishment 2. :bgrin:

speaking of that game…Where the hell has it been!? I remember them showing a small bit of it at E3 and then that was it.

Wii Fit Plus is really fun. Its only $20 if you already have the balance board, and the added multiplayer (if you have family or friends to play with) is worth the price, in my opinion. Haven’t tried the other modes yet, but playing against my brother in multi was fun.

Ok thanks Chairhome, really appreciate that. Looks like this is going to be doable. Only one thing really worries me, guys are saying that you can’t use it with 480i games?? How am I going to tell if a game does not support 480p?

Goddamit how did you know

Actually it’s crazy I live about 5 blocks from the Treasure office. I went and took pictures of it the other day. Looks like a dump but they make crazy good games.

SonicHuman, haven’t had a chance to read your post yet but I will when I get some time. Thanks for the responses guys.
