Wii Thread 4.0, WEEUWEEUWEEUWEE!

…meh…I wouldn’t hold your breath too much on that. If you have a 360 or PS3 I’d reccommend nabbing it on one of those systems. Activision hasn’t said jack about any other versions of that game other than for those systems. Usually that’s not a good sign.

There wasn’t much yesterday so here’s my gathering update for both today and yesterday.

Anyone think that the price cut of the PS3 is gonna put pressure on getting Wii numbers up? I honestly don’t think Nintendo will drop it, they have there niche and people are gonna pay to play. If it comes, it will be right around October, IMO

I had already posted my thoughts earlier on that issue in the PS3 thread. A higher powered console like the PS3 within just a 50 dollar range of the Wii’s price range is a bit too close for comfort IMO. 360 didn’t really have too much effect if at all on Wii’s sales when it’ts arcade dropped 50 dollars below and the pro dropped to 50 dollars above but now Nintendo has to worry about 2 higher powered consoles being that close to it’s price point. The 50 dollar difference in price right now is equal to ‘Do I want high def graphics or do I want try a different experience that I won’t get with the other 2?’ And this is only going to last for a few months since PS3 and 360 both have some type of motion controller that are reported to be coming out at some point by the end of the year.

There are going to be a lot of factors to consider. We don’t know what the prices on the motion stuff for either of the other 2 consoles are going to be when they come out so they may just end up putting the consoles right back out there. I do feel though that next year Nintendo is going to have to bring the rain next year beause of both of the other companies beginning to attempt to take over the market they’ve captured. Wii Motion plus hasn’t quite reached full swing yet and most of the games that were going to put it to the test got pushed to early next year. It’s going to be interesting Christmas.

Capcom Announcing New Titles at TGS

they’re also going to have new details on tat vs cap.

I finally got a chance to sit down and play a bit of Nyxquest and my copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Nyxquest is definitely worth the money judging from the good 3-4 levels I played of it. Good solid platforming action and I second the motion that you should check it out if you haven’t already. I dig the ideas they had for moving the blocks and the physics in the game.

Of course I find MPT to be awesome. I played through the opening section of Metroid Prime and I could never see myself going back to play the original version on GC ever again. The controls make this game so much better and smoother and I did notice that they made the load times faster when going from room to room…so far I haven’t run into one of those really long loading doors yet. This will probably waste some good time on the way to Muramasa.

IGN Cursed Mountain review:

7.5 from Matt. Said the game was mostly a solid survival horror affair with some issues plauging it. Some complaints included being it was a bit too dark, stiff character animation, dated controls. If you don’t mind RE controls then the controls aren’t going to bother you probably.

Analyst: Nintendo should strike ‘weak’ competitors

That would be kind of crazy though if they dropped the wii to 199 right before the holidays and then people started getting hit with Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Monster Hunter 3 in the following months.

Little King’s Story is freaking addicitive.

Everyone should definitely pick this one up. Highly recommended.

just them smashin stuff

I’d say nintendo would be more likely to start making bundles rather than just drop the price across the board. Plus the higher gen systems may be cheaper but the games are still more expensive. I’m saying this from a customer’s perspective… I’m not really bothered by the price points for my ps3/360 games because I’ll either wait until they drop or pre order and pay them off over time. But I’m not the customer that nintendo sells 4 copies of wii play to. My wii is my main system (that’s not entirely accurate. I play my wii the most but I cycle through 7 systems plus my pc so I just game in general) but I’m a nintendo fangirl, so they are going to get my money no matter what. Howver a mom trying to shut her kids up for christmas is going to try to buy as much as she can, and the wii is better at group gaming (depending upon both your age group and gaming interest of course) so that would appeal to her most because she gets more for her money. For most of us we’ve bought our systems, and now its the software that the big 3 have to court us with.

Also I need to figure out what I’m going to do with my old copy of MP. After playing MPT, I’m not going back to the cube.

Also forgive me if I rambled a bit…I’m working a double right now and my brain’s a little fried…

Edit: Hey sonichuman, if I’m not mistaken you work at GS right? have you seen the muramasa wall scrolls in person yet? I’m wondering how big they are and if I need to clear wall space…

No they haven’t come into my store as of yet…I wouoldn’t imagine it being too big though. If they show up at my store early I’ll give you a heads up.

I’d be more inclined to buy another wii if they release a Wii HD with 720p graphics at a $250 price.

I’m assuming you no longer have a wii at present, correct? At this stage I would ask why would you even want a wii HD? Nintendo wouldn’t be able to set it at the same price point (of course this is my assumption, if I’m not mistaken they are dropping a lot of money on R&D right now) because they would have to develop the new graphics hardware, which will cost more until they streamline the process, and it would only scare away devs I’d say. Why learn how to program for wii 2.0 that’s only driving point is it is trying to be like Sony and Microsoft (and PC) when you have those systems already available to you and you know (for the most part) how they work? Heck the devs freaked out when Nintendo annouced M+ for the first time because they didn’t get a chance to learn how the tech worked before Nintendo started the hype train.

And even if I assume you are only asking for a resolution upgrade, that just means that games will only look jaggy as can be. I’d say at this point perhaps the wii just isn’t for you and just wait until the next nintendo system comes out and try again.

I would think that too…that is until I saw this vid

that looks pretty good to me. I think what the thing is is that 720 will maked jagged games look more jagged while games that actually have effort put into it will look better. I think it’d end up being a game by game basis given the Wii’s library.

Galaxy in 720:

IIRC I think Septimus at one point said that Wind Waker looked pretty good in 720 as well.

You’d also be pretty correct on Nintendo plunking money down into R&D currently so they’re up to something…Don’t know if it has to do with any of those ‘lol whut?’ patents that have been popping up but I’m pretty sure they’re working on whatever next they’re planning. It should be interesting which direction they’re going to go with the next console since this whole generation they’ve been making bank. I’m also pretty sure that Nintendo has to have seen some of those vids floating around of their games in 720. I don’t think the next console will be as powerful as the 360 or the PS3 though unless Nintendo is planning on taking a loss on the consoles again in order to make it appeal to the crowd that they just got…but who knows at this point considering the fact that they’ve thrown 2 curve balls they may end up doing it again.

All I ask from Nintendo are good games, HD graphics and good online don’t care about any extra features I never use.

Another small nice touch that retro did is that for the intro for each game when Samus shoots to the side of the screen she’s basically in the armor with any visible attachments you’ve gathered at that point in the game. I thought that was pretty neat.

Nintendo doesn’t need to release a Wii with HD graphics. Just wait for a successor to the Wii with HD graphics.

Nah, I have a Wii and I am okay with it. Actually, I am a Nintendo fanboy (trust me, ask Septimus Prime). What I am most concerned is that the PS3 and the 360 are being more and more competitive with the Wii. With price points being around $299 and with the PS3 and 360 having their own “motion controls” in the near future, the Wii is going to lose more and more of it’s steam. You should also consider that a lot of developers have been stating that the Wii is lacking power, including the likes of Ken Levine, Suda51, Gabe Newell, and many other top developing personalities.

I don’t foresee a price drop being a reckoning force. Think about it. If they drop with Wii down to $199, then it’s only $30 more than the DSi (~$169). Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? If they don’t do a price drop, then people can get a HD system with “soon to be motion controls” for $50 more.

Honestly, I love the Nintendo Wii. It brought gaming back to the basics while revolutionizing how gamers and game makers should approach playing a video game. But, the Wii will lose its momentum once other companies can match the same experience with better graphics.

And about the cost for upping Wii graphics resolution. 1280x720 resolution has been capable since the late 90’s, If you also consider that a good video card that can do some damn good graphics costs around $50, I highly doubt Nintendo would be spending much on upping a few things here and there on their console. Mind you, the Wii was the only console that had been making money since its launch date, and, the Wii gets cheaper and cheaper to make while the price point has remained the same, they are making some good fucking money off it. It’s time for Nintendo to give back to their community with something that developers have been pining for which will also benefit the gamers as well.

Sooooo…the wall scrolls came in today and I must say it is quite nice so nice in fact that I was immediately about to reserve my copy right then and there instead of waiting for my paycheck but then my car got towed…yyyyyyyeaaahh…awesome face

But anyway…The wall scroll is not really big so much that it’s really long. Personally I like the side of the scroll that has the main characters portrayed and one of the characters has what my co-worker calls ‘butt cleavage’ which I found amusing.
