Why Should Back Dashing Make You Invincible?

where did you see any normal being focused here ? 14:33 is a simple Fireball startup being thrown.

I salute the time and work done on this troll though !

He’s just grabbing him from the fireball startup, there’s no c.mk or focus…

my point was its possible, its situational at best. ioh ok well maybe thats why, ryus usually throw out a cr.mk and can’t connect their fireball like its hard or something point being I usually fa dash grab if they don’t connect cr.mk fireball.

where is the @_@ button

Yeah, even Infiltration last year when he and Daigo were fighting in top at Evo he started off by backdashing to get past Daigo’s fireball. Its totally possible guys, and another one of my friends who hosted that house meet did it several times to me this weekend when we had an epic 2 day gaming session.

I know in 3rd Strike you can grab people out of fireballs and not be hurt, thats also what you can do against a Denjin Ryu when hes charging it.

I need to get used to focus attacks too, I got hit by a lot of those, even though I saw the start up. Im just not used to it yet. My friend are gonna play a ton of Ultra when it comes out, he downloaded it yesterday and so tonight I should say hell be able to access it.

Yo, I’m tired of seeing this scrub act like he knows shit even after proven wrong. Go to Unity if you want to be stupid.

Even the fastest f.dash in the game can’t recover before getting owned by a fireball. And you’re supposed to have enough time to grab too?? Nah.

Its like they both make it worse with every post.

ROFL

Well sorry if Im confusing matches. Um, lets just move on. Dont need to be name calling and saying I dont deserve to be here because Im trying to learn stuff. Ill just shut up, cause in life theres no point in talking at all or asking questions because then people will just get mad at you.

I hate invincible back dashes…but man this guy is hating them for things they don’t do.

What I said wasn’t as directed towards you as much as it was to that other scrub. At least you can admit when you’re wrong unlike him who has been doing this for awhile.

Oh, I guess I read the posts wrong, sorry.

I think he means fadc’ing through fireballs…

And if that’s the case, it’s part of the game and if you don’t like it, don’t play it…

But don’t question or complain about shit until you actually LEARN how to play.

No offense.

i’m not going to justify it as good or bad game design, game is 6 years old and thats the way it is, but it has some positive or otherwise important effects:

  • sf4 has tons of high frame advantage lights that leave you unusually close to the opponent, way closer and higher advantage than most games in the series, so backdash lets characters without reversals escape. also, consider all the dive kicks, or landing FA and getting +2 on block up close - there are a lot of ways to get in and stay in real close to the opponent in this game.
  • sf4 has a lot of poking specials that leave you with frame disadvantage on block, backdash makes it safer to use these as pokes.
  • it lets characters without reversals, but with really good backdashes survive getting knocked down

for example, zangief’s light greenhand is now -2 on hit. if Z couldn’t backdash, he would be in a scarier situation after hitting that, but because you can backdash out of that mildly disadvantageous situation, it’s a lot fuzzier and encourages going back to neutral.

in a weird way, it kind of lets you simulate the high pushback in older sf games, or acts as a weird sort of pushblock, getting yourself out of pressure. the fact that you can option-select it keeps it in check, as well as the fact that can’t crouch block and do it.

This thread is special.

The only way I can see you backdashing through a fireball, is if you do all punches with Claw, or if you play a character with the most invuln frames on back dash, and you did it right as a fierce sonic boom was in your face while in the corner. Otherwise frames are too fast and the hitboxes too large.

Ok I learned about the fadc stuff. Thanks guys.
