Even if they did do it “right” and balanced, time consuming combos will always be a bad idea for fighters in my book. Let’s just stop all the real action and strategy going on for awhile, so the audience can watch something that looks like action but is really just regurgitation of training mode practice.
If every long combo in the game were replaced by a short combo starting with the same move, that did the same damage, and had the same followups, you’d have a strictly better competitive game. Because the rate at which the players are presenting each other with mindgames would increase, there wouldn’t be a ‘break’ in the action to let everybody simmer down and think.
Cuz they are fucking broken in almost every game they are in. Alpha3 turned into the Vism meta game of who can land the CC first. Alpha2 had unblockable CCs. Look at Yun in 3s he bascially has a CC… boom top tier.
CC would ruin this game. NO CCs and NO air blocking. Trust me on this one.

Granted with KOf the rules are a bit more strict. More meter needed, being low on life etc. Now with all the shit that Sagat has that people constantly bitch about and with what Ryu can do what do you think the reaction would be to them having CC’s and being to end that CC with an Ultra?

I’ve never liked the Alpha style CC’s. It’s the reason I stopped playing A3. However, I think it’s short-sighted to completely write them off. Many people point to Genei Jin as an example of why CC’s suck, but IMO that was more of a meter management issue than combo issue. And even with Genei Jin in the game, Chun was still better.
I wouldn’t mind a character in SFIV that could do CC’s, but I certainly don’t want it for everyone, and I don’t want Alpha-style customs. I’d prefer shorter bursts, designed for spacing and mixup rather than damage. Sort of like the idea behind Fuerte, but on a smaller scale.
Then that one character will be top tier in SF4.
