Wtf is gg? I know you ain’t talking bout guilty gear or good games. And what’s the big problem? That gamesites don’t know how to correctly review games? Isn’t that old news? Good reviews is something from the 90’s, when we used to buy game mags. Remember those guys actually knew how to play fighters in a competent way and same for games like arcade racers (Daytona) that required intricate knowledge of game mechanics and know how of how to play the game.
I remember 1 guy talking about how he loved arcade racers and used to play Daytona USA in arcades all the time, writer for kotaku and so called good player of Daytona and other arcade racers. I think the article was about that new drifting arcade racer with retro graphics and flashy colors. I asked him how the drifting mechanics worked, how extensive the drifting mechanics are compared to say Daytona. Guy was spewing bs, he didn’t know shit about drifting mechanics or anything. He couldn’t compare 2 arcade racers even though he was a supposed expert. Didn’t know shit about techniques, 2-4, 2-4-3-4, 1-4, 1-3-4, 2-4-2-4 nada nothing.
If I ask a serious question to a fighting game player who acts like he’s a pro I would expect him to know more than you can throw fireballs, no shit asshat.
I think the only people who can legitimately review a game are people who are good or even great at said game. From simple games, being good is good enough. For REAL GAMES MADE FOR REAL MOTHERFUCKERS, like real arcade racers (not NFS, talking bout Gamez like Sega arcade racers with actual quality and complexity) and Sim racers, fighting games and other games where the skill level needed to just be able to functionally play the game need reviewers who are actually really good to great to be able to seriously review said game.
Let’s be honest, almost nobody fucking knows how to play fucking complicated games like fighters. These reviewers are not qualified to review these games, they should just review casual bs made for retards (modern day gamers).
Wow I never knew about all those hours devs put into designing a game and the crap they get from their higher ups. So for them to see something like Depression Quest receive praise and the LWs get put on this pedastal. It’s very understandable for them to be pissed.
I guess you have to have a genuine passion for it to do it. That or be a trust fund baby who gets to side step all the hardships that come with working for a dev studio and can just put out the bare minimum for a game and get a pat on the back for it.
The main issue with game journous is that they just don’t give a fuck about doing a good job because who needs to actually know anything about gaming when you can just post half assed click bait articles and biased half assed reviews get paid? There was no one kicking them in the butt saying “GET YO SHIT TOGETHER” and holding them to a standard. That is until #GG happened. #GG became that kick in the rear that keeps them on their toes and honest. We’re quick to point out examples of biased or agenda based reviews and unethical practices. So they can’t just blatantly do the stuff they use to because it wont go ignored and unchecked. I.E Kotaku stealing credit for that guy’s Smash Bros article. Before #GG that would’ve went unotic
Oh, i know GDC is going on… I work at the museum that shares the block with the convention center they are at and they are literally flooding the streets, park and all the damn places to eat. damn near 30 minute wait just to get some lunch.
