Why do you play less-popular fighting games?

Your only playing games you like if they aren’t popular. Thats what I got from this thread. Everyone playing P4U in Japan are sellouts.

Every fighting game is at least a little awesome in one way or the other.

Yes, even this.

That being said I’m actually pretty interested in that hack//versus game, or however you spell it.

New genres are being made, people just have to deal with it.

Hell, look at Divekick or that Samurai Kirby game from Kirby All-Stars. Even games with extremely simplified gameplay mechanics can have mindgames.

Someone should mod a feint function into the game to make it the virtual version of hothands. :sunglasses:

I’d play that shit all day, and when you think about it, Soul Caliber is basically the virtual version of rock, paper, scissors already. Maybe that’s VF, not sure.

Either way, people need to stop taking games so damn seriously, the higher-end execution games will always be around.

I don’t think any of them actually hate these games though, if they didn’t enjoy it at all, or were just tolerating it, they simply wouldn’t do it. Fighting games are still definitely games.

And again, it’s a balancing act. Even the worst fighting game can be fun with good comp, and even the best game is enhanced by having more people to play. I’m gonna take the game experience I enjoy the most, even if it doesn’t match my personal favorite game.

Saying that is easy, go try seriously playing the original AoF or such with people who know what they’re doing.

See I have a trick answer for that. “Good Comp” doesn’t necessarily mean ‘massively skilled players’, it means ‘a group of people that are fun to play with’.

Some of these games are honestly more fun at lower skill levels than up at the top.

Two words and I’ll leave you alone to shit out more over-generalizations in another stupid retard kid thread: Lasting appeal.

you are a hostile fellow :frowning:

I remember going through twitter seeing top players and commentators arguing about SFxT or UMvC3 being worse.

I also remember some saying they wouldn’t be playing a particular game if their sponsor wasn’t making them.

You can look at MK9 before and after PDP.

Many of these guys are mercenaries, they’ll play if the price is right.

Yeah, they’ll also say any old shit… and none of them are making a living off of this. In fact I’d wager that any but the top 2 or 3 are actively losing money on it, even with winnings and MM’s.

If anything I think it’s more about the attention, being the MvC3 champ is a lot more meaningful than being the SFA3 champ.

Still, I think that the rapid collapse of SFxT shows that even in the short term games that people hate so much simply don’t make it.

SFxT will be hot and all “game is fine” after EVO when Capcom throws a ton of money at it instead of fixing it.

Shit, I’ll watch that if they say gems are on and none are banned. I want to see people abuse autoguard.

Heh, I guess it’ll be the test of which of us is right. Lets make an informal wager.

I bet you 5000 bison dollars that SFxT will continue to slide towards obscurity regardless of what Capcom does to promote it.

Secretly, I don’t even dislike SFxT though, kinda oldschool in the ‘we just don’t give a fuck’ way. I just think that given that people in general don’t like it, they won’t keep playing it.

I play FG’s that I like.

I started in 92; that means I played all the SNES/Genesis/PSX random fighters that tried to cash in on Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Back then it didnt matter who made it. Most were bad, but if it were fun, and playable, we played it. Simple as that. Thats how I determine what I’m going to play; is it fun? If It’s fun, but I have no comp, I’ll come up with combos and be content on that.

the rules were already posted, every gem is allowed except the auto tech and auto guard gems, i dont remember if the other assist gems are baned aswell

especially today where you can play online against other players through SNES emulation (zbattle.net). same for Gundam fighter

online play totally renews those games from the obsolete CPU.

Guilty Gear XX and Melty Blood AA soundtracks are sooooo goooood!

Haha! Let’s get silly!

Because they’re not Capcom.

…and I think people play games because they like them. Or something like that.

cough

I used to host Mark of the Wolves on GGPO, but only a handful of guys I could conect with ever turned up. Same deal with Vamp Sav. I tried GG on the old Xbox Live, and hated it. I have the newest KoF on 360, but I can’t get into the feel of it any more. I’m glad VF is finally getting way more attention, but I gotta put together a whole new stick before I jump back into that.

I’ve been checking out the HDR action over the last few nights, and whilst it obviously features well known Capcom IP, it’s kind of a small, cultish game on there, with a few legit hardcore players who’ve mastered the new nuances of it, and then a few more players composed of nostalgic casuals, pullers, laggers and Akuma pickers.

Hi-5 bro :woot:

Becuase i enjoy them.
