Why did you guys pick Ibuki?

Depends how desperately you want to see them - they’ll be in amongst the other Arcade Relief games here: http://www.twitch.tv/leveluplive/videos?kind=past_broadcasts

I caught the grand finals vs Alex Valle, I thought he did well. It was pretty entertaining.

I almost beat Valle in winners :frowning: when I played him again he downloaded me lol It would’ve made things a lot easier if I beat him then. My execution and mixups weren’t the greatest but a lot of my knockdowns and damage was just wiff punishing.

Archive should be up at twitch.tv/leveluplive. The problem is that the internet was pretty flaky at FFA, so it’s cute up into many, many, many pieces, and you’ll just have to thumb through to look for it all. He was the only Ibuki I saw playing at the tournament, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find his matches.

He definitely leveled up his game though. His ground game was pretty solid, and his ability to combo tight links and counterhit combos was pretty impressive. What’s funny is that he was just originally going to play Akuma just for fun, so that he could lose and leave early to go hang out with friends, but he ended up playing his Ibuki seriously and got pretty far. lol.

Oh, and of course, people complained about Ibuki being ridiculous. Both on commentary and the spectators. It’s not a real tournament until SOMEBODY complains about her.

That’s the most reliable way to land knockdowns, and probably the most respectable way to win with Ibuki. If you just spend most of your time doing kunai mixups, people would just rage and call Ibuki bullshit like they always do (exactly what you did to that Ken player)

I think I played 6 matches on stream. 2 of them were early in the tournament and the rest were one after another at the end but I think the latter were the ones that were cut up.

Our original plan was to just lose as early as possible but then my friend had to go home first after work which bought us time. So, then we decided to leave after going into losers but once we got into losers we were far into the tournament and just kept going lol

HOW DARE SHE GET AN ADVANTAGE ON KNOCKDOWN! OP nerf plz

Yeah, you got on stream a lot. I think it’s because they like putting “THRILLHO” on stream so much, lol.

Well hey, good thing your friend stalled out, because then you wouldn’t have made it so far. Not bad for a guy who just finished finals, lol.

Yeah, I don’t know what it is about Ibuki that people bitch about so much. Cammy, C.Viper, and Seth are WAY more deadly, but somehow the ninja girl gets the haterade?!

I left about an hour before this happened

I wish I could’ve been there when he said this but I had no idea the cops were going to shut it down.

Whenever Momochi played Ibuki in Super, I used to think “YES!”, and always hoped he used her in tournaments. Then I went to a tournament, 0 Ibuki experience since online has taught me nothing and I think “Fuck this bitch”. I enjoy Ibuki as long as I’m not against her, for now lol. Same goes for Viper/Rose/Sim and online Guiles gave me a habit of actually jumping in on him since most of them don’t anti air lol. Seth has always annoyed me, but he has low hp so I try not to get too frustrated. Cammy just flat out irritates me since AE 2012, the worst part is all the Cammy players deny her being top tier. If I mained Cammy, I’d fully admit and probably make jokes too.

All Cammy players deny her being top tier because they still want to maintain respect for being a Cammy player.

The thing with the Ibuki matchup is that you really have to study Ibuki, as a character, much more deeply than most other matchups. Some matchups you can just play by feel and understand what you need to do without even knowing a damn thing about the character. But to learn the Ibuki matchup, you gotta really gotta understand Ibuki as well as the Ibuki player understands her. You gotta know her safe and unsafe attacks and attack strings, her setups, all that shit.

I thought the ones who usually deny her being top tier (except a few), actually just picked her up after AE2012. As for Ibuki, you’re right. I probably don’t know most of her stuff since I’ve only played one good one offline and he’s arrogant as hell, so we don’t talk. The online ones never seem a threat to me and because of that, I’ve learned nothing except I can do online tactics. As soon as the round starts… Jump in fierce.

She’s not my main (look at avi) but she’s someone I’ve been using a lot lately (along with Juri). I love her mobility and speed and all the mind games she can play. Plus she is so different from Oni and from the rest of the cast.

I chose ibuki because I like her CD and mixups, it’s fun making my friends guess. She’s got pretty cool looking combos, a dp, sliding/hopping over FB’s is pretty cool, and many moves that I’ve barely scraped. Generally, I’ve never really liked characters that are over-used, people get too comfy with match ups. Ibuki brings has that wild card factor, if that makes sense. I’ve cycled through a couple chars to see that this one appeals the most. My first character, guy, was pretty fun at first, but then I traded him in for akuma. Once my teleport crutch was crippled by my friends, I picked up ibuki, and mashed my way with moderate results. Then to sagat and cammy, but something just clicked when I picked ibuki back up. With practice and the stuff I learn from these wonderful forums, I plan on crushing my friends, maybe the world after, but just my friends for now. I’m already doing pretty solid against most of them thanks to you guys!

Honestly and no trolling because of her vortex, I was going to learn an Alt to handle my main’s bad matchups and ended up playing Ibuki on every match up. Her vortex game is very strong.

In all honesty, i looked at the roster. Picked which one looked most visually appealing. then after being told she is difficult didn’t deter me, i stuck with her. well, going to stick with her. I have a habit of that picking my characters (see: my avatar, skullgirls, UMvC, etc).
besides she’s got that whole, not dressed like a whore but still attractive vibe going on.

I like having projects to work on, they level my execution and my all around game up

Rose was my first main, then I learned Yang (who is probably my strongest character, now), then I polished off my Dudley, and I think Ibuki is next

I’m on Day 2 and just bothered to open her SRK forum

I have Tsumuji loops about 7/10 times and her hit confirms are pretty easy, i can’t tell if my vortex is fine or if they just can’t block

mainly my problems are half circles (also a problem i have with dudley :frowning: ) and SJC, but it’s only day 2, i’m sure it’ll come with time
I pick my characters based on who first appeals to me on roster

2i-Ibuki
3s-Ibuki, Necro, Ken
SF4- Sagat, then Ibuki in SSF4
GG-Slayer, Ky, Chipp
KOF- King, Robert, Elisabeth (when I could, obviously)
BB-Noel, Makoto
Garou-Rock
CvS2- Rock, Sagat, Cammy
Skullgirls- Valentine, Cerebella

I dont need to continue :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason i play ibuki? One word…vortex^^

Only started playing fighters but just looked cool so picked her and challenges seemed more fun than Cammy/Chun Li

It’s actually a pretty weird story how I picked her up. When I first started learning SSF4 I HATED her. I thought, “Too many mix-ups and cross-ups!” and the only people I kept playing were too good at these setups more than anything else. I picked up the game at first solely to be as good a Makoto player as VryuSensei, so it was hell trying to play her first. I learned nothing from fighting Ibuki players till I just wrote her off as cheap and scrubby. I was always more of a fempick player, so I naturally gravitated towards the women of the game, and eventually due to my liking of cuteness and sucky execution picked Sakura and Juri as my Main/pocket secondary duo when I finally got my feet wet.

After a little over a year with the game, my execution got better with Sakura and I wanted to experiment with more characters. As I said, I only really went towards female characters or male characters with some likeability in their design, so I went playing with Ryu, Fei Long, C.Viper, Makoto, Chun-Li, Cammy, Vega, ect. Until one day my friend saw how good I was getting, being able to beat some 2.5k players within the year I started(I learn fast lol) and he wanted to get better as well. I asked him who he wanted to use, and he said, “Ibuki.”

Now, my first reaction was to tell him I refuse to play that character, but I know how awesome Ibuki looked on the game and how cool his mix-ups and combo potential were. And as much as she pissed me off, I ended up using a night or two to do her trials. I got to 17 and stopped and went on Youtube to learn some stuff for her and next thing I knew I feel like an expert Ibuki player; Far from it, obviously, but I was feeling her potential and eventually she helped me develop a meta game and respect my spacing and footsies. She was the first character I spent more than two hours alone offline with to train, and boy did it feel awesome. I’m now naturally beating people in the 3k range and sometimes in the 4k after I think two years of experience with footsies pretty much alone thanks to learning her basic stuff…although the wrath of certain characters plague me on every skill level =_=.

Right now thanks to my sudden change in console, I no longer have the availability to use my stick for training, so I’m just keeping myself from getting too rusty with my controller using Ryu to learn the fireball game via online, and thanks to that, I most likely won’t be participating in my personal little hometown EVO (Otakon SF tourney) so I’ll just hope people brought open sticks to use in rounds when I get there this year to play casually :3
