I can arrange space the size of an official basketball court or larger and some rooms. I can have the organizations I’m associated with cover various costs and drop the venue to $15 or maybe even $10. In addition hotel and other deals. I need proof you guys are serious. You need to convince because I don’t trust people from SRK.
I can make that happen and one stop for CTF via the N.
Cost. It’s why I ran ECT in Jersey and not New York. I wonder if it’s also the reason NY football teams play in Jersey.
Manhattan is a dream location for it, but unless someone wins the lotto or gets GameStop or something crazy to sponsor it, it’s probably not going to happen. The boroughs are annoying to get to. Brooklyn isn’t exactly the easiest place to navigate, neither is the Bronx.
Jersey, on the other hand is central, easy-ish to get to, and cheaper.
Think again dude. Yes, EVO had 1022 entrants this year, but that’s fucking EVO. Final Round had 256 capped and 243 showed up. Unless we’re giving away gold or throwing in some serious bonus money, 500 is very hard to achieve.
I know I sound like a pessimist, but I’ve been in this for like 3 years and tried planing a major for 2 years and ran one last year. It’s a tough business to get into an make it work for you, it really is.
Dude the 10k one was in Bk right next to the bridge. I found only one place in queens but they didn’t like the idea of a video game tournament. Manhattan, the lowest I found was 5k a day plus deposit. NYC is the hardest place to host a major.
dsp ran a psuedo major @ web2zone and had 100+ entrants, web2zone wasnt a bad spot imo. Easy to get by train or car, cross eyed pr chick with the nice booty at the counter lol
I gotta go with SJC’s deal about jersey. I’d love to have one here in NYC but damn, money money money. I’ll see if I can find out anything around here in queens though, no promises though.
You could try it in like Hoboken,NJ. Right across the river, most likely a lot cheaper, still accessible by train etc… Either that or southern CT would probably be the best bet.
I live in Hoboken, and I can’t think of any place to host it here. We have 3 things here.
Residential.
Bars.
A college.
Jersey City is a much better choice if you’re looking for it to be close to NYC, as there are more options and it’s easily as accessible as Hoboken is.
Generally speaking, NY gamers are too damn cheap to pay out serious money to play in tournaments. The mentality among the majority of the people who are into competitive SF is that “if I can’t make top three, what’s the point?” You may feel differently, and I appreciate that, but you are the minority in this situation. There are not as many players out there who want to play in a live tournament environment as you would hope.
Take it from someone who’s run a few of these back in the day.
I think it would solve the problem of lots of newer players being intimidated by the slew of better, more experienced players and Empire Arcadia here in NYC. A major would probably do the opposite since it attracts mostly those who think they can break the Top 8 or whatever.
