Why arcade stick is better than a pad?

In no way does a stick “allow for greater precision” if anything it offers less since the joystick has to travel a longer distance to engage the switches and arcade stick buttons also travel a longer distance as well(obviosly not enough to make a real difference. The only real advantage a stick can offer is as a crutch if you are riding the square gate to pull off tk moves, dp moves, and dp shortcuts instead of learning how to execute these motions without using the gate to do it for you. Spd’s in Street fighter are super easy on pad since, instead of spinning the stick/dpad all you have to do is tap back-forward-down-up to SPD.

Aris said it best:

Pad is best for left hand execution, and stick is better for right hand execution.

There’s stuff on the right hand side that you cannot do properly with pad, like double tapping and pianoing.
Pad on the other hand is very good for quick movement execution.

Hitbox is objectively the best since it has the best of both worlds and allows double tapping directions, which neither gamepad nor joystick can achieve, but since psychology and dedication are the biggest determining factors in if you become great at a fighting game, it doesn’t really matter.
Pick what you prefer.

because then you are not a pad-scrub :coffee:

Speaking of which, whats a excellent pad for ps4? Now that my bike is getting $$$$ in repairs, gonba have free time to play V. Dont wanna spend $$$ on a stick, if i dont have to.

Hori fc4 is great pad

DS4 is pretty solid.

JWE VMan and cR Footwurk have both complained about the short lifespan of DS4 pads

so, i read people say a pad can do all the move a stick can. This mean i can be able to perform Chun’s instant air leg with a pad (ds4)? Because i trained harder on the move with no result. :frowning:

My first one died pretty quickly too, the second does well though.
Kinda hard to find quality in anything nowadays though. Everything seem to be made to last you as long as the warranty lasts.

Yeah you can. And that shit is not getting easier on stick.

i have no issue doing that move on Pad. A crutch that helps me nail it is I will in one motion jump then spin the dpad 270 degrees ending in the towards position (up-upback-back-downback-down-downforward-foward) kick.

Mapping button combinations to a single button used allow you to do things you couldn’t normally do. This was very obvious in older Tekken games. Tekken 4 Jin had option selects with his parry that could only be done this way. Some of Nina’s chain throw sequences could also be done simply by holding one button and mashing a second. Banning mapping button combinations mapped to single buttons wasn’t meant to screw over pad players.
