Whose The Easiest Characters In KOF XII?

But some things never change in how a certain character is used.

how’s athena?

My team consist of terry, kyo and joe. All of which are pretty easy to use in terms of bnb combos.

Recently, i’ve been messing with athena. I see potential in her. The 1 thing she lacks is a good high damage bnb combo to punish ppl. For example on a whiffed dp, any1 of my 3 guys can punish with a C -> CD -> special move of choice. Athena doesnt have that option unless ur opponent is in the corner. Basically, she doesnt have anything to follow up after the CD. At best, u can do C->pshyco sword ©. Also, her psycho sword doesnt seem to have alot of priority when compared to the likes of kyo and joe. However, I do think she has great potential for mind games. Couple of pokes, run in and do the reflect or mix up with throws and jump attacks. Her jump CD is really good too. BnB combo of dwn b -> dwn a -> dp C does quite good damage for a combo that starts with a low light attack.

I have to say though that it is pity they removed her teleport.

Its not a bad topic. A lot of these characters are awkward coming from SF4 (even CVS2 where you can find many of them). The trickiest thing seems to be combo timing - no Balrog easy mode crouching jabs x infinity -> special, that kind of thing.

So far I think I like Daimon because he seems easy to get into (nice range, anti air and reaching throws that both autoguard, love that).

I think knowing characters that have easy BnBs, or just smooth flowing Balrog style weak attacks into special combos would be nice. Like Mature seems to flow easily from crouching jabs into that claw special or whatever the hell it is. Or maybe good poking characters. This is not something we’d try to stick with, it just eases us into the game until we would get a better feel for what would really suit us best.

I played Joe in fatal fury 3 and I still like him.

Depending on what you are trying to do there are a variety of “easy” characters to play imo. Ive messed around with a good portion of the cast and can probably give you a few picks for easy starter characters

Robert - you can sort of play him like a shoto, he has a good fireball and a dp that will work as anti-air. Only problem I can see is getting used to how the fireball game works in KOF as people can HH over a fireball and punish from a full screen if they are on their toes. Also his BNB is hard if you want to do the good one. cr.b, cr.a, f+a db,f+k is pretty tough though you can sometimes just do cr.b, cr.a xx fp dp, but you better be super close when you do it. Also his jump cd is one of the better anti-hop cds in the game and if it hits coutner hit you can easily follow it up with db,f+k anywhere on screen as long as you remember to charge.
And as Sytha mentioned easy combo to super off either cr.b, cr.a, f+a xx super or st.c, f+b, f+a super or st.c, cd, super.

Goro - decent poking character though I feel he can have problems getting cornered. As mentioned he has nice tools such as autoguard grabs and a pretty easy combo into command grab that does lots of damage. cr.b, st.a, st.b xx hcb,f+a or c does too much. st.b is a really good poke. j.d is a great air to ground and df+c or st.d are great anti-airs. Very basic poke character with good grabs and decent post grab mixup.

Terry - high priority moves, good reversal, f+a is amazing. Only thing he lacks is consistent anti-air but you can get around that if you try. Also he has no hard combos everything is super simple to perform, a good character to learn if you want to learn most of the random systems of KOF as he plays like a strong kof character, good mixup between throw, high or low. Good space control normals and command moves for basic combos, he’s a great KOF poster boy in this game, similarly Kyo also covers these aspects though i find his normals aren’t quite as intuitvie. Hell you can probably win matches with terry with just anti-air df+c and then doing alot of st.b, f+a as a poke and cr.bx2, st.b, f+a as your combo of choice.

Shen is almost certainly the hardest in terms of execution skills. He has multiple just frame inputs in many combos. His gameplay otherwise isn’t complicated though, but most characters don’t have terribly complex gameplay in this game.

To actually answer the question though, I’m thinking the easiest might be kyo. He has great normals/speicals and easy/strong combos.

Ever play guile? You know Ash! (kinda. You’ve got a good start though.)
