Who is Capcom QA, and what do they do?

nintendo and capcom are 2 totally different companys

I’d make another joke about my joke going over your head but, I just don’t think it would be funny enough.

my dad’s a comedian and he says you suck

lol, thats exactly what I thought when i saw the title.

Yeah I dunno, I just don’t think they’d have a staffed team of testers who don’t at least have some further qualifications. Maybe they’re not quite QA engineers, however I just really fucking doubt it’s a bunch of people getting paid minimum wage. How do you keep a “team” like that? I mean it’s all great how much you guys can say “I know a ton of people in QA”, but it just doesn’t make sense in reference to the Seth’s statement.

Like I said, I’m going by personal experience, but a lot of game developers/publishers, instead of hiring a team of test engineers, will hire 4 times as many unskilled testers who work temporarily for the length of one project.

yes, this is exactly what i’ve heard as well.

i know alot of game testers as well, primarily those that have worked at activision… yeah them fools dont get payed much.

however, those fools are GOOD at the games that they play… i’m talking unheard of scores on tony hawk 1 that are like :wtf:

and also, going back to what i’ve heard, a friend of mine was telling me about a dude he used to know way back in 2000, that was doing unknown infinites with cyclops and other characters that i cant remember on mvc2… my friend would come to me and “try” to show me some of the shit that the dude would be doing… he actually told me alot about homie, but that was 10 years ago, suffice it to say that i asked him why no one had ever heard of dude and why he never entered tournaments. and my friend told me something that stays with me to this very day:

“dude said that neither he nor any of the other testers are allowed to enter tournaments”

basically going on to say that the “testers” have an unfair advantage, plus capcom not wanting the general public to know all of the possibilities available in an engine… they’d rather let people figure out shit for themselves… cause it gives capcom more money to not get their games “figured out” so quickly.

i mean you’ve got to think:

these guys have access to framedata, hitboxes, lengths of moves down to the pixel, how fast a fireballs speed is, every link in the game up to a certain point, all of the “unknown” properties of moves like what ex’ing an ochio does (nothing)… etc etc.

now i dont necessarily think that they are better than wong, daigo and whatnot… but, take anyone with really good reactions, good execution, pretty smart, and give those people all the info about the game that they will ever need plus “force” them to play the game 8-10 hours a day AGAINST EACH OTHER 5 days a week.

also capcom “recruits” VERY good players, these arent just run of the mill arcade rats.

not hard to reason that some real beasts could come out of a training environment such as that one… can you imagine what they must be doing in game just to not be bored? 10 reps of fuerte loop? taunt combos? only combo vid combos? lol.

i think that after a game has been out for a year or so, they should hold an exhibition of there top players against other countries, not so much for the qa team to beast… they probably wouldnt, but just as a fun event available to showcase the game.

Thats kinda lame. But I could see why.

I think it depends on the QA you’re doing.

I know that Blizzard specifically employs QA that does nothing but check for balance, and they had pretty rigorous requirements to get the job. You had to be ranked on ladder and have a really good understanding of whatever game it was. It was also a full-time position. (I know this, because at the time I needed a job.)
On the other hand I also know people who worked for Acti/THQ/EA/S-E, and it was exactly like you mentioned. Except there was a lot of “mandatory” overtime so they sometimes made a lot of money. I also heard that at EA, once you clear the temp level and they make you full-time, you get paid pretty well and get benefits on top of that.

On the other hand, if they were talking about Capcom QA in Japan they probably make shit wages. Even programmers make terrible money.

Currently I’m a contract tester for a company out in Chicago for the company that makes coin op games used in bars (golf, and bowling), and the amount of contract stuff that states you can’t compete in the online money contest system within the game, NDA’s, certain organizer run tournaments and stuff of that nature is ridiculous. I would take a pretty good bet these testers have much of the types of stipulations in their contracts, which prevent them from competing outside of inside company tournaments.
