This reminds me, the other day a friend (not a FG guy) was asking what the differences between the two were:
Him: So Ken has a worse Hadoken sure, but his uppercut is on fire so his SRK is better right? Me: No Him: What about his hurrican kick? It hits way more times, it’s better right? Me: Nope Him: Well what about his normals Me: Almost all worse Him: What about his signature crossup Me: doesn’t seem like its in this game at all. Him: His overhead? Me: Not really. Him: Why would I pick Ken then. Me: Shrug
Juri has to be one of the most complete characters in this game, how you can get mad at the Shoto twins bros? I really need to find me a partner for her too many choices though gah…
i wouldn’t say ken is that bad. but he is definitely lacking compared to his shoto peers. the problem is that most people are trying to play ken like ssf4 ( including myself ) when its probably wiser to use him somewhat like his 3s counterpart. like jinrai punishes damn near everything due to it being 2 frame start up, target combo is buff like 3s so it hits all crouchers, and he have his good ol srk juggles. and he have decent solo links that serve for utility rather than raw damage. such as cr lk, st lp, cr mk xx ex tatsu which is ok on damage and push opponents further to the corner which benefit some characters. and ken footsies are still solid as ever. and ofc he has an dp which is good 4 bail out/aa.
he isn’t as good as i thought he would be, but he’s definitely better than some characters in this game like yoshi or asuka imo. also, he can still neutral hk tatsu cross/hit front like sf4.
I’m reluctant to call any of the Tekken characters truly bad at this point because we are so unfamiliar with them. Yoshi does seem bad though, but Asuka is very good in my opinion.
Difference is, we know what Ken does to some extent. You’re right, the best thing about him is jinrai but if you need a character with a great punish super, why not pick Chun or Julia?
Ken’s tatsu is great for Tag stuff, which is worth mentioning I suppose.
yea, i’m not saying you shouldn’t choose other people over him, because honestly if you want to win, then i would use ryu over him. but i’m just saying ken is not as bad as some people may think. i feel he’ll be somewhere along mid tier once everything is said and done.
Good point, theres definitely something to be said for character roles which I don’t think alot of people have explored much yet. Ken is a great support character.
It’s funny, there’s better discussion here than in the balance thread. I suppose when you play Juri it makes bitching about Rolento or Ryu seem less relevant.
yea ken does feel more like an supporting character for ryu this time around. but i honestly feel he does well for juri too because he does serve her needs ( push opponent to the corner, build meter ) imo. my only issue with ken, is why his blockstrings suck lol. especially when ken suppose to be more offensive than ryu…
yea, juri just as versatile as she was in ssf4. but i feel more comfortable with ken during ground game than juri so maybe its just me. she does more damage than him so she kinda felt like a agile tank ala wesker lol. and with meter, she gets better options for defense/offense while ken doesn’t really need meter outside ex tatsu combos/jinrai. but he can punish pretty good outside that too.
Dont be telling people, she is good i liked that i was always in the cult sakura players and then a juri players…That got slept on…Another one that can do a simple like 5-6 hit combo and steal half your life kazuya and its easy, Nina can to, I bumped into one today after i was doing her trails and got to see her inaction…after i figure out this juri and xaio issue , kazuya and nina will get more then 2 minutes,i think Kaz will be the new wesker sadly , jins with his power stances seem more tricky and make him not my style…But read someone said maxamillion is playing kazuya and jin and he is a guy who finds the cheapest chars that do the most damage and acts like he always loved the character… when he is just a tier whore and he has had a build of the game real early~check them out
Thats another character that I’m thinking is pretty bad but haven’t really figured out. There’s probably some neat stance cancel stuff but I can’t make her do anything in a real match.
Right now im a bit flustered with her she has some great combos, just her normals seem really bad so far for pokes and hit confirming into her combos… the stances are not that bad , its just remember which one is which command and her combos she will change stances on her own if you know how…with the no sound online im not real hungry to play like crazy so, i have not gone in depth with her other then free ballin it here and there,i been playing ssx the snow boarding game most the time between this. I was just gonna throw this game back on the shelf tell they patched it up, but i like it and i fucking hate it at the same time… she is a combo beast if a jab does not knock her out of it…seems other then her jab everything gets beat by everyone else, i could be fucking wrong about all her normals , its just my feeling, her footsies are ether really bad or i have not figured them out…her round house is a abomination to me as of right now
I’m still experimenting with the game and so far I’m using Lili as a partner for Juri. Quite good, since Lili uses a lot of bars and Juri can get those really fast.
I’m interested in seeing the synergy between her and Asuka (which I’m also training), Hwoarang, Poison and Heihachi.
I’m watching some Juri combos because I need to learn some more damaging combos with her, beyond the BnBs.
Juri works great as a point character, so it’s good to find a anchor that can keep with her game.
Anyone having luck with Juri/Bison yet? I’m still trying to find a partner for Juri and would love to use Bison, just haven’t heard anything good about it yet…
I’m really having a hard time deciding on a partner with Juri. I like Jin and Asuka a lot, but Jin’s anti-air is absolutely awful. Asuka seems to not fare well in the footsies game.
