I am disappointed that Mike Z said that Beowolf would not fight like Kanji because Kanji is probably one of the best grappler designs I have played. Kanji has a invincible wake up move that his from front and behind, and has a lot of tools to land a throw and also close the gap on the opponent after landing a throw. Most importantly Kanji has a lot of tools from his Persona that allows him to apply a lot of pressure without relying on throws.
If I have any hopes for Beowolf’s play style that I hope he plays like MvC3’s Haggar, using the chair as a tool to land a lot of ground/wall bounces.
It would be very nice if he could use the chair to reflect projectiles as well. Being a grappler that has better tools to deal with projectiles will differentiate him from Cerebella.
I would absolutely die if he could parry attacks with the chair.
Well Beowolf can’t have autoguard on his command throws because Kanji has autoguard on his command throws, and he can’t play like Kanji.
Okay I read Beowolf’s description again and it sounds like the chair is actually more like an on screen intractable similar to Ms. Fortune’s head. So I guess Beowolf is going to play like a mixture between Ms. Fortune and Cerebella?
Hopefully he fights better without the chair because it’d be really stupid if he has to run and pick it up all the time.
I have to agree also, I was hoping that Beowolf would be a more straight forward character like MvC3 Haggar w/Pipe , or SF4 Cody w/knife, but then I remembered Mike Z hates those games. I can see him being more convoluted like Litchi who was high mid tier at best. Characters that are tied to their interact-able are obviously extremely good when their interact-able is on the screen, but get owned if they are no where near their interact-able and get hit.
But then you have to consider that unlike Ms. Fortune’s head or Litchi’s staff, the chair won’t be able to move once placed. I checked his bio again and it sounds like the folding chair is considered a legendary weapon so he won’t be able to summon another one indefinitely like Parasol’s tears. The solution to this would that Beowolf would have to be a heavy vortex character like Fuerte where he can constantly keep his enemy pinned down on the same screen.
I would assume he’d have someway to more easily recover it as opposed to Captain America’s shield or Vega’s claw. Maybe like Litchi’s hop, some kind of body press.
XD why would You want a even more straght forward grappler in the game.
Think like this like, You would have something like a low float with ground moves, new block string options(maybe You can do a quick drop down air). If they send a projectile Your way chair then drop would take no chip and be nice by not using so much time to jump to a preset place. Also the option of different angle airs. He’ll likely crap on zoners due to genral movement options that take place where most projectiles don’t hit.
Well I think he was talking about attacks that could be done from the chair.
And that’s what I’m concerned with, I hope source of Beowolf’s damage doesn’t come from the chair interact-able, it should come from his throws. If he can’t get in close and threaten people with command throws then he’s not a grappler in my book. Even though Fuerte’s a wrestler, I don’t really consider him a true grappler. If Fuerte’s a grappler then we’d have to call Guy a grappler too.
I have no problems with him using the chair interact-able as a mobility tool and gap closer like Litchi, but once he gets in range, I hope the last thing Beowolf says is that “I wish I had my chair.” I’m fine with Ms. Fortune’s damage being tied to her head mechanic, and Litchi’s damage being tied to her staff, but I don’t think Beowolf’s damage should be tied to his chair positioning. He should be a grappler first and a technical fighter second.
