Where US players better than JPN in the other XVSF, MVSF & MVC

Sabre’s right. Americans do very well vs Japan in XvSF because of the easy infinite and super factor and also the different play style.

Spider-Dan played BAS a few years back and beat him pretty soundly from what I heard. Yeah, I also heard BAS wasn’t that impressed by Spider-Dan’s Double Bison Team which just threw a lot and did a bunch of pokes into psycho-crushers but still.

Surprisingly, Thailand had a HUGE VS scene. Games over there are a nickel to play, and they do all infinites. We had a guy in AZ (The Matt Daddy) from Thailand, who was a XvSF beast right around when the game came out (96-97). And Omni had a friend as well who dominated MSH back in the day, that I believe was Thai.

I think if there had been a world turney at the height of XvSF popularity, Thailand would’ve won. Now I think the game is still alive, in pockets here and there. Right now I’d say the best XvSF players live in Australia, oddly enough.

wolverine/magneto ftw in xmen vs sf… lol

So… US > Japan in VS. Games???

As for who was better at SF2, no big tournaments took place so it’s foolish to assume that we would have automatically been better. As someone said, EVERY country was huge into SF2. Even Korea had a gigantic SF2 scene, and they may have been better than USA or Japan.

Sure SF2 was amazingly popular in the US, but that doesn’t mean that we had more high quality players than Japan. US is all spread out and only a few regions were hardcore into the advanced strategies.

It’s all conjecture.

Didnt America have Tomo Ohara, Jeff Schaufer and Mike Watson in the SF2 days

They did. However none of these players ever played the Japanese from WW-HF.

So you can’t really say anything about who was better. It’s too bad we didn’t have any big international tourneys back then.

I remember back in the first US vs Japan tourney… we thought 3rd strike was actually up in the air between US and Japan. Boy were we wrong as US got owned. And we also thought MvC2 would be up in the air as well, but US owned that game.

for anybody to even try to say one country was better than the other back between ww and hf is the most ignorant thing ever

same with basing any kind of judgement off of a few matches between spiderdan and umm… bas? that’s like beating ksk at cvs2 and saying japan sucks at that game

i was beating bas and chikyuu in ggx back at b5. america > japan!

we’re never gonna know who’s better at the games in question because a playoff between people who specialize in the games is never gonna happen

CHAMPBELL wins the thread.

Wasn’t Bas one of the better japanese XvsSF players?? I dunno.

BukFUCKINGtooth

according to what?

seriously, dude does not play the game at all

BAS was involved with a few Japanese combo vids, but that’s about it.

Beating Huger, however, would be impressive. That nigga is a MONSTER…

yeah huger looks way too good. that guy makes my jaw drop

well with a name like huge-er. …

bronson.

who wins the most at dogface sidetourneys at evo?

I’m willing to bet Japan would murder the states in a MVC 5on5.

I’m talking pure fucking rape, like 22 - 3 or some shit if the states are lucky.

Did they ever play MvC1 in Japan? I never saw any Japanese MvC1 match vids or even combo vids for that matter.

Eddie Lee is MvC1.

MVSF had assists.

As far as I know, Japan has absolutely no scene whatsoever for MvC1. I even asked some of the Japanese players if anyone plays MvC1, and they pretty much said hella no.

Anyone got those USA vs. Japan 2000 videos? I’m looking for ST/SFA3/MvC2 since I found the 3S one.
