Where to print FightStick Art - Best Quality? What about on Acrylic?

If you are using Photoshop you want to choose “Print with preview” to get a better idea of how it will print on the paper selected.

If you are using acrobat the just make sure you uncheck the “fit image to paper size option”

Ok cool so I have a 300 dpi 13.473 inches by 8.473 inches CMYK .TIF image, which will be printed on glossy paper using an inkjet printer (and then laminated/attached to the metal plate with double sided tape). Anything missing? :looney:

Thanks for the help, I am completely clueless on this stuff.

Personally I don’t know about the lamination. I do know that laminate is best when there is a seal left on the edge. If you’re going to be cutting along the laminate, it’s leaving the edges exposed and not sealed. Eventually that’s going to peel off or bubble.

But you might ask around on the forums, because someone else may have had good luck with it.

So if the printer is an inkjet, we should request glossy?

Actually just re-read your post. If you’re using double sided tape it will be easy to remove and replace eventually if the laminate peels. It should look fine with laminate as long as you know you’ll possibly need to redo it down the road.

You can use Matte or Glossy on an inkjet. If you’re laminating, you may want Matte. I’ve seen Glossy have trouble adhering to the plastic and bubbling.

So I know enough about photoshop and printing to get a high quality print (my mom owns a professional photo printer) but I don’t know what medium to use.

If you print just on matte or glossy photo paper, chances are the ink is going to run after 1 play (heat from your hands). Is there any decent photo lamination you can buy anywhere? Or maybe a heat-resistant photo paper?

Another option, and what I (along with another SRK member) are doing is using this site.

This is what Ed uses on his Arcade In A Box sticks, and I have yet to see anything come close to the quality and durability of it. It’s a tad spendy, but worth it imo.

While on this subject I have a question too …

Last night I filled in the hole where my switch was on my joystick.

Before - http://i42.tinypic.com/10rj1h1.jpg
After - http://i42.tinypic.com/2nstobt.jpg

My plan is to sand it down, and then put a sticker overtop of the whole area.

What I was going to do was get like a 3"x1" rectangle sticker that is black, and have the Xbox360 logo on one side, and the PS3 logo on the other side, corresponding to the switch.

My question is, does Kinkos print out “stickers” like that? I want it to be sticky on one side so that I can just stick it to the front of my joystick, after cutting out a small circle to go around the switch, and have it cover the entire filled in area and then probably some.

Thanks.

likkuid you need to hook me up with some of that work

Are you guys removing the copyright signatures so you dont get rejected by Kinkos?

I was wondering the same, what all causes Kinkos to reject your print?

This looks like an awesome resource. I would use this if you’re using a panel that doesn’t have plexi on the top of it.

$36 from MAME Marquees is a lot though! I’m already paying for some custom artwork, so I’m going to have to think about it.

Any image that is copywriten, ie. all official images of Capcom’s. To get away with printing any official art you basically got these options:

-The art was inspired by offical work but was created by your hand and is owned by you.

-You have altered the image enough so that it deviates from its original form (maybe you’ve collaged images together, used some coloration and effects). Kind of a gray area sometimes up to the disgression of the handler.

-You argue that you need only one copy strictly for educational purposes. It’s possible they may only print it in B/W.

-You work with someone who doesn’t know anything about the Street Fighter franchise at all.

-Your printer just prints whatever you give him, chancing to lose his job.

You can go into printers and print whatever you want by yourself at your own disgression. You can print whatever you want on your home printer. Then, you can give it to a company to Laminate/Lamilabel.

In case you’re wonering, I enjoyed reading through this thread because I work at a Fedex Kinkos. Yes, be aware that some guy may not know what they’re doing. There is little to no formal training on file types and quality adjustment. One good option for you is to make a test strip sample with different percentages/color variety and have them print that so you can adjust your native file appropriately. Best best for most printers is PDF or TIFF file, there’s not much that has to be done beyond File>Print.

Yes it is. But the quality is unbeatable. I love it on my AIAB. Just need to make sure it is the art you want on there permanently…or for a VERY long time.

Yeah thats what I was worried about, thanks. I wonder if a local printer would offer less hurdles.

Like I said, not all Kinkos employees are idiots:wgrin:. Everything here is right.

The thing to remember is virtually everything here is kind of a gray area, like he said. Just don’t be mad at an employee if he won’t print something for you. He can lose his job for it (although I’ve only known one instance, and it was for copying money).

But basically anything that’s hand drawn by your or someone you know is going to be fine. If you created the artwork you shouldn’t have a problem.

Yeah, but you’ll have a hard time getting quality like that for less. And it’s going to be durable as hell.

Not necessarily. The copyright rules apply to anyone printing.

But you might as well take it in and try it. All they can do is turn you away, they aren’t going to take your materials away or get you in trouble for it. The worst that happens is you get refused.

You can also use an online printer like the ones linked above, and submit your file that way. Most of them aren’t too strict about just printing one or two pictures.

I’m getting mine printed at MAME tomorrow. Will probably arrive in 2 weeks. I’ll post pictures when it’s done.

Very confident in them

Can’t wait to see it. Which of your many amazing designs did you go with? Or keeping it a secret?
