Get a cheap soldering iron, look at a tutorial, get to it. In my experience liquor helps you get started, and helps you whenever something goes bad, so buy a bottle too
And it really is harder to screw up than you think. Seriously, almost everytime I’ve soldered to a PCB I’ve believed I’ve broken it (stupid HSF3), and everytime it turned out it wasn’t so.
Trial and Error, learn from your mistakes man that’s about it.
I learned how to solder from my grandfather and lately I’ve been researching how to solder and a few other things. Next year is my senior year in high school and I might take a woods class to help learn how to make wooden cases for sticks and such.
Thanks guys for all the responses. I think I’ll pick up a soldering iron this summer once school is out and I have time to learn it. How much do they cost? I’ll probably go window shopping sometime.
Also, what should I start tinkering with first? I was thinking something cheap like an old TV remote or maybe an old mp3 player.
Just like what all the above said. Go buy a relatively cheap soldering iron, and practice on old pcbs from old stereos, keyboards, anything that you no longer need. I don’t have the link, but also youtube has alot of tutorials.
