Seriousness is subjective therefore if someone feels passionately about something it might be serious enough in there mind to do harm to another person while totally not worth it to others. Not saying its right morally or wrong.
It clearly wasn’t just because of the game that he wanted to fight it was pride, which is usually the root for this type of thing most the time.
Also I can also tell your fairly new around here…
Do you feel and speak the same way about soccer fans, football fans etc etc…? Because alot of times I catch my self saying its not that serious when I see fans on the front row yelling with painted faces and bare backs… Or people getting hype in the living room over a play and or arguing and almost coming to blows… I have to remind myself that its a lifestyle and serious to THEM
Trust me when I say he’s had plenty of people calling him out for his behavior. These guys may have been rough around the edges, but they knew better than to take things too personally. We’ve had this type of discussion before, but obviously newer guys(specifically 09ers and beyond, not calling anyone out) aren’t going to know about these rivalries/attitudes/controversies. Obviously like the whole Aris thing, one man’s actions don’t represent the whole community.
I will say that things can get serious enough, but that’s more on the individuals than the whole group.
Subjectivity is irrelevant. A passion crime is still a crime. People make rules for a reason. And more then one person makes the rules so that the many of the ways a rule can be interpreted can be covered and so that the safety of the majority is secured. That being said there are both written and unwritten rules that concern and apply to everyone regardless of what they think. One of the unwritten ones is essentially “dont make plans to stab someone…and get caught.” Subjectivity in matters like these only matters if A) you dont get caught (he did) or B) you’re above the law (he’s not)
Also, I’m not new (not sure how that would change anything). I came to the site for several years, though I only signed up maybe two years ago and lurked until marvel 3 came out. Fairly new concerning forum comments yes, but not new here or to the community, though I’ll admit I’m not a very strong player yet (I’ll still gladly play you or anyone else on psn on any game I own for brownie points and bison dollars).
And to answer your question, yes. I feel the same way ***when things get out of hand(****i.e. when extreme measure need to be taken[police involvement, life threats, etc] *). And similar results are seen when things do get out of hand. People have been banned and kicked out of arenas and bars and facilities both public and private due to behavior. Some are jailed or imprisoned. I’m perfectly fine when people get a lil rowdy. I think it’s healthy to have a little “umph” in your system every now and then. But there’s a limit to what is socially safe and acceptable. Why the heck should people risk their lives or suffer just cause one guy takes something serious. I mean come one…the dregs of society (rapist, murders, drug lords, etc) all take what they do seriously. Maybe if they only drugged, raped, and murdered each other there wouldnt be a problem…but they dont (extreme example I admit but you get the point). All I’m saying is that if people wanna shank or see others get shanked then they can go to some underground death match, a jail, or a psychiatric ward. You do it anywhere else and we have a problem…unless you dont get caught, in which case only those close to the victim have a problem.
Maybe its just me, but I think that having a lifestyle requires you know…life, and that life is serious to THEM, the majority of people. The general, and essentially the written, consensus is that free speech(subjective speech) and god given rights(not getting into a religious debate here so pm me if you or anyone else wants to) only apply when they dont encroach on the rights of others. I stand by that. I have no problem saying something is morally or ethically wrong. I’ve had enough friends and family suffer or die from people “being serious/passionate” for me to be pussy footed about mess like that.
EDIT: @AKU:
Yeah, I see where you’re coming from. I didnt even seriously look at fighters until I saw some people playing guilty at my colleges game room my freshman year(2008). I missed a lot and will admit that I have much to learn about both the history of the community and the present. That doesnt change how I feel though. Some things simply are not acceptable. However, i generally believe in second chances and would love to see the guy back. I probably wouldnt want to actually talk to him though…just watch from a safe distance.
Dark Prince is working as a mercenary in the Philippines or Singapore, or one of those major South-Asian countries. Dude literally kills people for a living.
Other than that, he still regularly attended Evo for several years, although I’m not sure if he came this year. He usually comes down and hangs with his old MVC3 and parties it up in Vegas. Sometimes he tries to get into Evo to check it out, but normally security catches him, and throws him back out.
I presume that he’s still perma-banned from Evo due to his antics.
Filming the documentary of his current occupation of mercenary will be a certain fraud.
Sound production will be handled by his friend with the goofy laugh.
Really believing he’s a merc smh.
Any of you guys have any idea the skillset and years needed for any established merc company to take you on?
I know there are several vets on these boards, any will tell you how full of shit this story is.
He pulled a knife on someone over a game of Marvel. If he’s willing to ruin his own life over something so trivial, that might be one of the biggest steps to being a mercenary.
when there is up 50k+ on the line for money matches, its pretty fucking serious. This is more money that than EVO champion wins. Hell its more money that the umvc3\sf4 champ probably made this year combined. When the money starts piling that high, mother fuckers aren’t friends anymore. Its time to get paid. Its why the mvc2 community was like that.
If you weren’t in the mvc2 scene, you can never understand. Your logic doesn’t work here unless you happen to have both perspectives.
I’ve had friends that lost cars over mvc2. Brand new cars mind you and you don’t think someone would get so upset that they would start stabbing people? you go lose 15k on a MM and tell me how you feel afterwards
Very highly specialized skill set and many years of experience in whatever field you specialize in.
Most want men with a lot of field exp, preferably with combat tours.
Well he has been gone several years. Maybe he picked up a trick or two along the way? Perhaps merc groups in that part of the world don’t much care for a highly decorated resumè and specialized skill set? Maybe some guys are just looking for a cheap gun-for-hire? I dunno.
Either way, it doesn’t really matter. He’s long gone from the FGC, and we’re better off for it.
