Fixed.

  1. 3D does have EVO Moments, but you need to understand the game logic before seeing why they are hype.

  2. The Jaxel Stream is basically dedicated to 3D games.

  3. The Tekken Community is like the third largest Community in the USA. They always show up to play their game and they are always at EVO. The only time they weren’t at EVO was when they said they didn’t give a shit about Tekken 6 not being at EVO last year because they were waiting for TTT2 and everyone was tired of Bob vs Law with some Bryan or Jack mixed in. ( I really wanted Ryan Hart’s Kazuya to show everyone up.)

  4. Forget streaming my friends, show up to the events and support your games! They need more players than stream monsters and you’ll have MUCH more fun that way.

VF: Not flashy enough. Also made by Sega who constantly does stupid things
Tekken: Has become too bloated and inaccessible, worse of all no Tekken fan seems to see it as a problem
SC: Latest game was treated extremely poorly by the higher ups at Namco, despite the developers doing a great job for the shoestring budget
DOA: Never taken seriously, too much sigma especially due to the hold nonsenses

I know that Tekken is hugely popular around the world. But, for the most part I don’t like 3D FGs either.

I got into Soul Calibur, 2, 3 and a little of 4, for a awhile, but that was mostly in the years before SF4 came out and there wasn’t much else I was interested in. After SF4 came out I’ve been back to 2D games including MvC3.

Can’t give you an exact reason but I’m sure the fact that I grew up playing SF2 and it’s many incarnations probably has a lot to do with it. SF/2D figthers just feel like home to me.

There are some Tekken fans who see it as a problem, they just don’t ever post on SRK.

That’s the thing too ,for info about 3D games you have to go to the foums where they are actually discussed. Not many people on SRK know/care much about them. Namco games are the more popular 3D games though.

I’m not sure of what you people think, before I even knew about fighting games I got more hype watching SC5 evo than UMvsC 3, that final match of SC was… amazing, on the other hand I stopped watching the UMvsC video when I saw a guy with 25% life strting to flash red and doing insane damage on the opponent, so imo, a superb comeback factor doesn’t add hype, is the same as the Tekken videos a guy with less than 30% life against 2 gets rage, does a super wall-bounce-combo and kills the opponent, I don’t see what is flashy there -.^

Then what’s your point? People like different things…

My point is that I don’t understand why, for example SfxT and SCV was released close to each other, SCV at evo was great and SfxT was horrible to see and the lineup has SfxT as the main game, I don’t get it, it’s not fair imo, and I think that this is part of the question of why the ppl doesn’t love the 3D or they even don’t give them a chance.

SFxT got another chance because of the Update. SCV didn’t pull numbers last year after and the community as a whole isn’t really behind the game while those who play SFxT have been really trying to get the game played…

That’s as fair as you can get it. That’s why TTT2 is there. Community may be smaller than SF4 or UMV3 but its people ALWAYS try to come out.

Clear explanation, thx.

ah thats because they don’t have the flash 3d games.
KOF MIRA ,FUC, Bloody roar series.

3D games require a lot more information to pick up or follow at a tournament level imo. They’re also usually more rounds (3 out of 5 instead of 2 out of 3) so the pace is naturally going to be slower/require more patience. Less people are willing to stick with that than a faster or less information intensive game (which 2D games usually are compared to 3D).

Now when it comes to a less popular 2D or anime fighter, I’m not exactly sure what puts so many people off from picking it up besides maybe aesthetics/theme. Maybe unrecognizable characters too (you’d be amazed at how much this matters to some people). More importantly though, what’s the factor that keeps people from sticking with the game after they pick it up? Me, I usually quit eventually because less and less people stick with them… leaving virtually nobody to practice/play against, but I don’t know what makes those people quit in the 1st place.

SCV didn’t pull numbers where exactly? Because it had alot more than KOF did throughout the year and more entrants than MK at EVO. And the people who actually show up to events are behind the game.

Because it’s not about 3D games versus 2D games. SFxT is back because of the patch, eSports, and because it will receive crossover from people who are entering SF. It had close to 900 entrants last year eventhough the majority of people want to see the game go away.

And it’s not about what’s wrong with 3D, it’s just Capcom has the most popularity right now. Eventually something else will. But the events that I care about all have SCV in the lineup, so I’m good.

SCV had 70 people at NEC. I don’t really know the attendance for the other games but my impression was always 50+ is good. There are people who played SC4 who don’t like SC5, but you’re bound to get that with nearly every game.

SCV had 71 at NEC and 20+ just there to watch and support the tournament. I can tell you numbers for other games, but for the most part, certain games are going to be stronger in certain regions than others, or people will come out to certain events for particular games than others. For example Persona gets 100+ at Summer Jam and NEC and 30-40 everywhere else. Soulcalibur is stronger on the east coast than everywhere else.

These days, I really don’t know what’s good anymore because two years ago for games not named SF and Marvel, 30+ was great. I guess games that don’t get 100+ are dead it seems.

I can tell you for a fact that SC4 is dead. There’s no one left still playing the game seriously. Either they transferred over to SCV or they quit because they don’t like SCV for whatever reason.

And I really don’t know why SCV was left out of EVO, but it is what it is. EVO is still a Capcom tournament at heart and they can decide what to include and exclude. I’m just tired of this popularity content and having the fate of the game decided solely on what one tournament out of the year decides to do. There’s plenty of events to go to this year and now you have VXG competing against EVO, DOA at IPL, and Sega throwing their own event for VF in SoCal, so it’s not the end of the world.

for one thing, you should be clear as to whether you mean 3D as in:
*3D polygon fighters fighting on a 2D plane…or
**3D fighters that fight in 3D stages where they can walk in the full 3D round, ie, stepping into the foreground and/or background.

for ex:
*SF4
or
**Tekken, Soul Calibur, KoF maximum impact

Why does this matter? 3d games sell boatloads automatically for being 3d. Dead or Alive, Tekken, Soul Caliber and don’t get me started on Smash Bros…tons of people play these. 3d fighters are far far more popular among casual players than 2d fighters. About the only 2d fighter guaranteed to sell a lot is a street fighter title but that’s cause SF2 started it all and has built a huge following over the years. As far as hardcore FGC people, I’m sure everyone appreciates Virtua Fighter cause of how technical it is and how pretty much everyone who plays it are serious players.

Somewhat true, for what I have experienced, in casual settings 3D Fighters are far more popular. My Friends ( Who hate SF and mock me for playing it) think that Tekken is the greatest thing to happen to humanity since drinking water.

3d gamers don’t show up as much? I was guilty of this in the past.

I like 2d as a whole more than 3d, but VF is my favorite due to reactions speed needing to be faster and the matches are faster as a whole ( I don’t see a problem with 5 sec. Rounds).

Yes, to idiotic graphic whores. It doesn’t mean they’re worth playing.
2D fighters get more love because the game play is overall more solid and goes at a faster pace. There’s more intensity and let’s face it 2D came first so the fan base was already well established when 3D came around.

That’s not to say all 3D games are bad, Just Tekken, FUCK TEKKEN!
I will play Virtua Fighter till my thumbs bleed because the game play is tight and deep (like a good ass) Where as Tekken, eh, Let me know when they realize a block button is a must in 3D fighting games, Seriously, Tekken has the worst blocking system in any game I’ve ever played.
