As a Blanka main, I find I have the easiest time against Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Sagat (unless it is a really good player). There are other characters, though, that are very difficult to beat as Blanka, like Balrog, E. Honda, and Zangief. For me, they require so much work to beat that I can’t afford to make a single mistake. If roll-spamming is killing you, then I’d say just practice more. If you need some help, friend me on XBL and we can play some player matches and I’ll try to help you on ways to defeat that. I find that spamming ANY of Blanka’s moves will result in a swift defeat for me.
I hear people complain about Blanka sometimes, but I don’t think those people realize how hard it is to beat really good players using Blanka. He has a LOT of weak points in my opinion and a lot of matchups that are very difficult. Playing him well is not as easy as it looks, so learn his weaknesses and punish them. Despite those weaknesses, I’ve been playing him since the original Street Fighter II in the arcade and I just like his style, so I’m not just picking him because he is good against less experienced players.
Whining about “scrubs” who beat you and claiming they “have no skill” is super lame. If you can’t manage to beat them, what gives you the right to pass judgement on their skill level? They found a technique that worked and you couldn’t manage to adapt quickly enough to counter it. So what does that say about your skill?
If you keep losing to Blanka’s, then quit complaining, go learn the matchups, and figure out how to counter and punish the moves these guys are continuously beating you with.
Oh, and if you really cared about what goes into advanced Blanka play, you could have checked the video thread for videos of top Blanka players and the matchup thread. Seriously, why did you need to start a new thread here just to whine and complain about how you can’t win online against Blanka?
You forgot, HE DOESNT! He wins 50 percent of the time!:chat:
Anyway, to the OP why do they do it? because most of the time it works is why. Thats why its bad for people that want to get good to play bad competition. Because you will use what works on them and wont on anyone else.
Whatever it is they are doing is working and thats why they do it, its as simple as that, in their mind why should they change their play?
For the same reason flow chart Kens play the way they do, because in one and done sets, its very likely they can stupify people into victory. You can adapt to it after round one, but I am willing to bet most of the people these flowcharts face dont, therefore they keep doing what they are doing. As an above poster said, when playing a flowchart ken in a player match they will boot you after a win or boot you the moment you get wise to the chart and beat them.
All you need to do is look at the g1 match with that honda and ken (blackhawkxxdown or whatever his name is) Dude literally just threw shoryukens all match and won. Now(hopefully) if he played that honda 10 more times, he probably would lose every single match.
The moral of this story, you can be horrible and still win online thats why people do what they do.
PS:
if you face that many blankas that do the exact same shit, you should be winning more than 50 percent of the time.
My bad, its just I have absolutely NO trouble against other matchups and win most of the times. And then a blanka comes in, that jumps, electric, jumps electric, forward ball (Which Is like unpunishable…) etc etc, and before you know it the match is over. Then you have his ultra, which you have to block like…down, then up then down again? no its only low then high. And which does massive chip damage as well.
And a few friends of mine who are actually pretty damn good have trouble against some Blanka’s as well. And that’s why I ASKED if that was all there is to a blanka game, so that I won’t see it as scrubbish anymore.
Its just so annoying to a point where I made a thread about it yes, cause seriously these blanka’s seem very skillless [and again, I ONLY have trouble against them… Like completely get owned]. But yes, I guess I gotta read the matchup again, Although Im prob sure its 6/4 in blanka’s favor anyways unless you’re good. And that there is no real opening for me to use :
This is the same type of thing with all the Sagats online, who just fireball then strong kick, or knee. (I have no trouble against them btw) only these are worse. Since most of the times I can’t punish and am just sitting there blocking, doing nothing.
And yes it works, but that doesn’t mean they have a clue what their doing, and if I somehow bypass it, I doubt most of them would know what to do, and just spam electricity which I can out cr, a, or w/e which does minimum damage :
That’s all im saying. Doing soooooo much trouble for little damage, while they just charge ahead. But yes, sorry for the thread, although my opinion completely stays. Its prob just a badmatch up for ken, and the other shotos… I mean balrog could probably beat him much much easier.
It might be a ‘‘technique’’ but I honestly think its just a cheap way to beat players, like some sagats, Zangief and those ‘‘type’’ of players do. And the majority agrees about those players that they mostly spam ahead.
If fire ball spamming/ electric spamming is giving u problems then its you. If you fall for it each time , or your “friends” do then the blanka player is gona keep doing it casue its working. Blanka can be beaten at any time, if electric is a problem , do a leg sweep thru it. i get beaten all the time by good player not button mashing. So before you call Blanka cheap learn to play the game. I dont know who ur fav toon is , so lets say its ryu. i ball foward, you counter with a fire ball. i ball dash up and on you blocking it i rebound off of you and you dragon punch me. i use electric , you leg sweep me. you see how this works right?
you have to understand that blankas specials are his moves. not counting the combo heavy incarnations of street fighter, blanka has very little in the way of combos like ryu akuma and such. his combos are like are like mp , C> lp > u ball. and the same cept end with ele. and so on. hes a very evasive toon. a stick and move kind of guy like the lord of stretch dali. depending on the distance ,u use the relative c >kick. i rarely use ele less i have a very good thrower or they miss me with a dp or other upward move and i get em n the way down. its also good for focus breaking. AND a FYI i dont ever see anyone else ever doing it so ill say it, you other blanka players no u can hold all punches when you start your ultra and he will spin in place. its a good way to get hoppers.
It’s ironic because Blanka actually sucks in Street Fighter 4, but I hear more bitching about him than any other character besides Sagat. Once you spend some time to learn the matchup, you’ll kill Blanka scrubs 100% of the time. That being said, I’ve see a few solid Blankas online too.
No offense, but when you have trouble with a matchup instead of bitching about the character do some research. It’s all over the forums.
i find blanka being the best hes ever been and ive been playing him since stf2 on my snes when i was like 12. add me to friends with my name here, ill show u a good blanka
When you say things like this, you lose all credibility. When you call these things “cheap”, that indicates to me that you are the scrub, not (necessarily) the people you are complaining about losing to.
Scrubs are not the same thing as spammers and they’re not even the same thing as unskilled players. A scrub is someone who doesn’t have the “play to win” attitude or mindset. An unskilled player that has the proper attitude and mindset will improve with time and effort. A skilled player might just choose to spam you because they’ve figured out you can’t counter it.
If you actually wanted to get something productive out of this thread, you could have come here describing your specific problems with Blanka and asking how you might be able to counter things and improve your game. Instead, you just whine and complain. What’s the point?
Don’t get me wrong, I use Blanka all the time. I just find he’s weak in this game. His balls (insert joke here) are punishable even on hit and he has no solid ultra set up. c.mk into Ultra is tough to pull off on a consistent basis. He also has really tough matchups against Sagat, Sim, and Rog.
Also…are you counting CvS2? Blanka was a little too good in that game.
I main Blanka too. I’m not giving up on him or bitching that he’s low tier. I’m just stating a fact. He isn’t that great in SF4.
blanka is in stf4 for a better word a very good ball bluffer, you ball out of a 2-4 hit combo when they cant retaliate or ex one thru a fb spammer, or lp/lk one as a fake and slide in. hes more versitile imho then ever. but thats just me. I blanka main and off with gouken/ryu/ken. are you a stick user? i need to put my dpad skills to the test since 99% of all my stf history has been on a pad. i use the mad catz stf4 ken pad
Blanka isn’t really low tier, he’s been exposed as a mid tier character since the games original release when people weren’t used to the shenanigans. you are right he isn’t great but he’s not bad either. his major issue stems from the schizophrenic nature of of his matchups, he owns Gief but get wrecked by Sim. it also doesn’t help that his comeback potential is limited in comparison to some of the other top tier characters.
