Well, one of two things is going to happen. Either:
One group of people are gonna look like absolute fools for ignorantly hating on and intentionally trying to sabotage the success of the game.
Another group of people are gonna look like fools for thinking that there’s more to the presentation than just the demo, and a good looking final project is actually achievable and perhaps already achieved.
The only people who are mad are the ones who got shafted with SFV and desperately clinging on to the hope that Capcom will and should fail for their blatant break of loyalty to their fans. I’m not mad, I didn’t buy SFV and probably never will, and I absolutely disagree with their shady business practices (on disc DLC, day -1 DLC).
But I’m quite happy with the way MvCi is looking because I recognise that the story demo was bodged together from various pools of assets and that the floor demo is just a WIP using similar graphics settings. Meanwhile the final build sits in an office behind closed doors and a lucky few who have gained access to it have actually stated how much better it is.
I believe it and I’m sticking by it, and if I look like a fool by the end of the day then so be it. But I know what I’m looking at, some people are just pissed because Capcom chafed them.
Being 100% serious, it doesnt even look fun to play. Yeah sure, advancing guard deflects projectiles to stop cheese.
No assists, what kind of VS game doesnt have that?
Roster, aside from no X-men and Disney movie promotions still wtf! Infinity gems but no Power Stone rep and Spencer the game. (Thanks ComboFiend) Shit man, I see so many tards going “lol X in daa game. xDDDddDD Buying et.” Even old characters like Strider; How can you be hype about him without the classic shell Strider/ Doom?
Movesets, Removing moves from UMvC3 and Idk what retard thought it was a good idea to remove Dante’s devil trigger but its a retarded decision.
No wonder Capcom gets away with selling garbage cause there always is going to be a retard that will pay for it and love it too.
To be fair, I was talking shit about Tekken 7 just before it released because of the 2 years+ development the console version took, and I’m still kind of disappointed about how rushed the game is in terms of online functionality, loading times and quality of life standards, but the game is pure crack and I haven’t looked at anything else for 2 weeks now just because I’m having so much fun with the game.
I hope MvC:I is the same in that I hate it right now, but it turns out to be an amazing game. Don’t have high hopes though and most definitely will not pre-order. I leave the pre-ordering to fanboys, shills and other people who are not right in the head.
That’s why people should be vocal about this now instead of being just “nah, gameplay is fine, I don’t care, they still have time to do some minor improvements”.
Like Aris said: Even if you don’t judge a book by it’s cover, you still have eyes.
Sorry what? …Watch KOF fans get triggered by this post.
It agitates me to know KOF fans are willing to accept anything that SNKp throws their way even if it’s only crumbs. And It makes me feel apathetic when I see people, for the sake of their games, going ballistic calling out companies for the stupid crap they produce while KOF fans just sit there submissively waiting for anything.
I haven’t seen anyone call out SNKp for the 2 decades worth of horror gaming it made us go through. But since it’s not Capcom nobody cares right?
Everything said here on this thread applies 100% for KOFXIV. I initially though of doing a review of XIV but decided I’d give it a chance. Now I’m definitely doing it.
Despite Sony pouring money into SNKp, XIV is at the level of a low budget game. It’s a rushed game, like 4 devs only for graphics. Everything they do reveals their inability of decision making.
Plastic hair, emotionless dull faces (how come when they’re anime-like?), wack character models with no apparent cloth simulation (in fact only a few characters have this but not to every part of their attire?!), RAGDOLL PHYSICS for character animations
Weakest UI I’ve ever seen on any game, not intriguing at all. Wack plot; just another Orochi saga recycle (Iori’s DM not in line with plot and if you don’t know what I’m talking about don’t call yourself a fan). Wack mechanics with tons of bugs an hiccups (even more bugs than KOF97). Wack balance. Wack events & tournaments [details=Spoiler]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yM-PSl4GQ4[/details]
This is just tip of the iceberg.
They went from leading player making state of the art, best in the business games to “Made in China” games targeting casual players.
The thing is there is a huge difference between the issue of KOFXIV models in the development period it’s not about the “facial aesthetics” right? while in MVCi it’s like they are really aiming to alter the face to look like that.
And the cased of SNK is can be tolerated , acceptable and understandable after just reforming there company from another bankruptcy then recently develop a game 100% from scratch.
People around here including me isn’t expecting in game graphics, animation and visual like this.
The problem is why some facial aesthetics ends up like this (Not talking about polygons and hair but facial features) It’s like they are trying to alter or radical change the facial features?
If this is intentional. it’s like they just want people to gravitate to DLC costume or be the talked in social media by spreading it like memes for advertising.
it’s not even a poor subpar quality of imitating the previous work. If this ain’t intention, This stuff happens when a project is handed over an artist without the proper guidelines and orientation on how to handle a particular character. Not knowing his or her limitation on creative freedom for a specific character. They should just stay faithful to the design.
Even other companies did better design for facial aesthetics (Not talking about polygons and hair but facial features)
If this trend of loosely designing keeps on being like that. This mistake seems to have no direct problems for now but it will does gradually alter the future design to be more butchered visually because of continuous contradicting and inconsistent design to each other because of different influences and preference. People would change how they see the character.
Except KOFXIV was made by SNK after they have come from the brink of bankruptcy and had no choice but to leave the gaming industry for all of those years because surprise, surprise those sprites they made for KOFXII and XIII was so ridiculously costly it messed them up something fierce.
You might as well see them as an indie company at this rate and thus there’s no point in attacking them at all in this way in comparison with Capcom who still allowed all of this to happen despite having the money to make them better.
SNK still has creative independency, sure Ledo is renting the licenses to other studios to develop some Android and iOS cheap games, but the SNK games are still 100% SNK brand, they don’t feel like corporate-mandated/corporate-made games.
Did I mention Ledo is Chinese but SNK games are still made in Japan? And that SNK is trying to push again for the Samurai Shodown license, which is a completely Japanese lore oriented game on itself, no matter if China hates Japan? It’s clear they’re almost completely free in the creative aspect.
As much as I’d hate to see Capcom go. Dragon ball Fighters Z NEEDS to be the game that finally allows Arcsys to take the fighing game throne from Capcom. Capcom has gotten way too complacent, lazy, and bold. And bold not in a good way. They really just need to feel the sting of a competitor Out doing them not only critically, but commerically as well to light a fire under their ass. Dragon ball Fighters Z needs to straight body bag MVCI in sales. I really hope the Avengers brand isn’t enough to get casuals to jump on this. And with Arc Sys using a pretty popular brand in DBZ. That just might be enough to finally put them over the edge.
Capcom needs to change and maybe even clean house. And only a thourough ass kicking will make them change.
FighterZ is getting a lot of attention, yes, but it’s still a sort of Xrd Re-hash in matters of gameplay. It’s going to do well in the competitive scene but I don’t think it’ll be able to transcend a lot as a fighting game brand in the collective imaginary, specially since DBZ fans (which is the wider audience they could get) that are “casual” for fighting games are way more into simpler games like the Budokai series, Xenoverse, etc.
Fchamp puts it best. Remember the whistle blower who said that Disney insisted Capcom ensured that the Marvel characters look better than the Capcom characters? That might actually have been true, but taken quite a bit out of context.
Ryan points out that all of the Marvel cast look good and all of the Capcom cast look ugly, and it’s likely that in fact Disney/Marvel insisted that Capcom worked on the Marvel characters first so their brand and standards were met at press events and loc tests. If they put the work into the Marvel characters eventually you’d think they would polish the Capcom characters too while the demo is doing its rounds. If Disney/Marvel thought for one minute that Capcom were gonna screw up their brands so badly, with publicity as bad as this, I bet no doubt that they’d pull the plug, yet they haven’t. I’d suspect Marvel have seen something we haven’t.
And the thing to point out, rumour is that Capcom are juggling a few builds with various differences internally deciding what they want to do for the final product. If they’re undecided on a particular design, it makes sense for time, resources and decision making to quickly whip up a demo on an older build that only has the core mechanics, not the little subtleties and nuances that they’re undecided on.
What we’re witnessing is a very bizarre development and marketing scheme. Watch the video, I think Ryan gives the game justice.
