Went on a 15 win ranked streak today, started abusing st hp when I got the opponent cornered and v reversalling ever damn thing reseting the ground game… I purposely tried to win without v trigger.

Coming from S1 Ryu I’m only now realizing the importance of v reversals.

Wrong thread fuck

Yes Rog’s VR is fantastic now, it lost it’s biggest weakness which was leaving you point blank

So in season 2 they got rid of his BnB when in V-trigger, where you can do the rush with punch, then rush with kick, and then cancel with V-Skill punch, and juggle with EX dash straights into uppers? Because I cannot for the life of me hit the V-Skill punch after the rush with kick.

EDIT:

I’m referring to this as @Frost stated it a lot better than I did lol.

I know it’s not the most preferred method to discuss/save matchup knowledge, tech, etc, but the Rog discord is an incredibly useful resource to help improve your game. There are a ton of helpful players to help you out and dissect your gameplay if needed. I’ve definitely learned a good amount from the players in there and its become my go to spot whenever there’s something I can’t figure out. I’ve also started joining other character discords to find skilled players of other characters, as a means to really learn a matchup.

Here’s a link for anyone who’s interested: https://discord.gg/e9hWWkH

By no means am I suggesting that the posts and threads here be left behind (heh heh), but I have noticed that there is a much more active stream of information and knowledge being shared in the discord.

What do you guys use for most of your mid range whiff punishes? I feel like 5HP and 2MK are the ones with the most range but the former has a lot of startup and the latter doesn’t really lead to anything without V trigger. Also, is there any reason to use 2HP as an anti air over 5MP other than being caught by a jump in while holding downback?

I’m fishing with s.hk a lot as well looking for cc’s. Not sure if that is considered whiff punishing as im throwing it out preemptively but its a great button.

I also use c.mp and buffer it into lp.rush punch at max range.

But the two buttons you mentioned and these two are like 90% of my neutral game lol.

The only advantage of using cr.hp as an anti air other than damage is it beats deeper jump ins where mp whiffs.

Thanks, ( hadn’t thought of buffering to add range to my whiff punishes! By the way, do you actually train bjj or is that just supposed to be a cool name lol?!

Lol yeah im a brown belt but have trained submission wrestling for about 16 years. You train?

And what do you mean supposed to be??!!

I do have a wicked darce/brabo though.

B)

Yeah I’m in my second year of training now–still nice and white lol! I trained boxing for some years but bjj is better considering my day job and I’ve kinda seen the light in terms of grappling’s usefulness/effectiveness.

I get caught in darces a lot in no gi and I especially hate the feeling of all gi chokes…so rolling with you would absolutely suck…BTW shouldn’t you be playing Laura lol?!

If you train with someone who has a good front headlock game (ie darce/guillotine/anaconda) and they can switch between them it can be hard. Defending one often makes another easier. Concentrate on keeping your elbows on your hips and alternating between chin up to defend the bravo and tucking the chin when you feel them switch to the guillotine. Keep tight and hand fight. You’ll start to figure the rest out.

Tried Laura but ended up with Ryu for most of S1. Boxer is just too much fun though.

Thanks! I constantly hear “keep your elbows on your hips” but for some reason that’s one of the hardest things for me to get into my memory–gotta work on that. And the more I train the more I’m realizing offense is about chaining attacks instead of just going for one.

And boxer is definitely a blast…For now…I’m dreading the upcoming nerfs. :expressionless:

What’s your VS 3f jab characters block string?

c MP, s MP, s LP, and it confirms into b,f+MP after CH c MP, s MP or b,f+LP after s LP because b,f+MP doesn’t combo off of s LP. s MP has limited range so only use in-close. c MP, s MP is only a combo on counter-hit as well, like all of Balrog’s medium, medium button strings.

Why is Cammy such a bad matchup for Balrog? I suspect it might be because she’s good at punishing him but I don’t look at frame data so I really don’t know.

I dont think she’s a bad mu for boxer tho, you have st.mp to aa her divekicks, tap for throws and if they try to shimmy you and they are the type to react at something to throw a st.hp your tap will hit them, you deal big dmg against her low life and can fight her more or less at neutral with dp and whiff boxer’s good normals (cr.mp st.hp st.mk cr.mk)

post AE lab work:

VT 2 stuff

  • vt2 seems to be 7f and +0. has longer range than normal throw.
  • can do neutral jump short for +10, then immediately grab. doesn’t work for +11. does that mean 4 active frames?
  • can tick it on hit after all jabs, shorts, and c. strong
  • you are in range to 3f jab, or microwalk and do it again
  • can’t vtc kkb or specials. meaning no vtc conversions after overhead or ex rush xx kkb~p

CC changes

  • sometimes you can’t even get s. jab after s. rh cc
  • max damage punish is cc c. fierce, rh upper, into whatever

Throw changes

  • +16 vs fast recovery, -1 if you dash up

V meter gain

  • 3 kkb hits to get one bar, whether alone or in target combo.

I decided to record a 3 minute round of me playing as Balrog. I am still fairly new to the character as far as actual game play. Here is my performance (I am seeking constructive criticism):
