Well apparently UMK 3 has a bug that was also in mk 1 and 2 but didn’t really cause problems because no run button but it makes umk3 mostly unplayable. which leaves mkdc as the only competitive game in the series. maybe mk4 too.
Negative. UMK3 is the only tournament proven MK. What bug? MKDC isn’t bad but it still doesn’t draw a tournament crowd like UMK3.
MKDC doesn’t draw a crowd because it has never been played in tournament up until recently. UMK3 has had years of tournaments to prove itself.
People threw off MKDC to the side and a majority of its core players didn’t want to even travel for the game.
bill was telling me about it and don’t negative me son I been playing tournaments longer than SRK has been around. The umk3 players don’t like to talk about it because it destroys the competitive nature of the game. It can be literally learned by anybody and done in seconds. basically you can block and attack at the same time and avoid throws. Most of the “top” players don’t use it but its not banned and not bannable really. I believe marvinarasta does use it and thats part of why he destroyed people so easily.
So I say to you negative umk 3 is a broken game and mkdc is the only tournament proven and playable MK thus far. As azuro said most cast it aside but its better than UMK 3 now that this bug is getting to be a little more well known.
Well, it’s not so much worse…just UMK3 is a lot more different as a result.
MK seems to favor more offensive centric gameplay anyways. Considering that all moves do block damage, unlike Street Fighter in which only specials / supers doing block damage.
The fact that throws can be avoided with that exploit, doesn’t that inherently give more defensive players a tool to use to offset the more aggressive / offensive nature of the game?
Or is this just one of those things that you can basically turtle all day at no risk in the corner and simply just wait for the opponent to screw up and capitalize on their mistake?
I’ve never seen any matches in which someone was essentially chipped to death (In UMK3 at least), which is why I ask these questions.
Go here, if you want an example of the discussion going on about Glitch Jabs.
Very insightful discussion. Like it or not, it will change the face of UMK3 (the game) itself. Now, whether the scene can adapt and thrive to it, as well, will be something we’ll have to wait and see about.
Frankly, the sooner MK2011 and the HD Kollection come out, the better things may be, I think. Now would be as good a time as any for NRS to take control of their “game(s)”, and force us all to adapt to a new standard at the same time.
That thread was really interesting. Especially because of the turn it takes saving it from being all doom and gloom.
Yep, I feel like a scrub now. I was totally dismissing the concept and not even trying ways to beat it. Once everyone learns how to beat and use this tactic, it will be interesting to see in tournament play.
