What To Do About Akuma's Demon Flip

I’ve been looking online and I can’t find (or figure out) a decent way to punish Akuma’s Demon Flip. Any advice on punishing it’s variants (dive kick, hammer fist, slide and throw) would be very appreciated.

if they dont do it on your wake up then do neutraljump up+medium punch. If they do on your wakeup then its a guessing game

So if it’s not on wakeup then I should just try and headbutt the hell out of it? One a side note I can’t believe I never thought of U2. Good Idea.

U2 would definately be hard to whip out that quickly woudnt it?

as an akuma player who plays good zangiefs often, any good Gief puts the fear of god in akuma with U2.

also, learn how to block.

Just spin the stick/pad while your knocked down on wake-up you will lift off the hit the kkk. And it’s almost instand buffered u2 on wake up also works well vs elf.

I’ve had some success in backdashing then getting the SPD. Siberian Blizzard is perfect for it (and easily consistent), but you gotta have something for when that’s gone.

if its on wakeup learn to block, if hes just doing it to pressure use the headbutt and stun his ass

typically you’ll see a double air fireball come your way before before the flip making the nj hb difficult or not even doable.

I’m at a loss of what to do here when he is trying to pin you down to force you to take the demon flip mixup.

even if they double fireball you can manage a trade thats way in your favor. you can also punch lariat through i think. i dont really remember if the lariat goes through the air fireballs. but even still headbutt is your best option

You can PPP Lariat through the double air fireball, but the lariat can be thrown by the demon flip.

That’s great when he’s point blank. If he’s a distance from you PPP will get punished right after the fbs whiff… I’m also thinking the double fireball on wake up. He may very well be baiting the PPP.

My problem with Akuma is he spam fireballs and catches me with demon flips or Fire balls double high kicks and jump back spam some more. When I finally get close enough to do work he teleports across the screen. I wish Gief could close line that shit so bad.

To counter the fireball-flip setup with U2, block the fireball, buffer 720 (counter-clockwise on P1 side or clockwise on P2 side) while in blockstun, and if he flips, release it in the up-forward direction. If he doesn’t flip, then U2 has already done it’s job.

Ok, so what did gief do about “meaty” demon flips in sf4 v.1?

I tried dashing in the past but thats a guessing game, he could slide, then which side is he fliping to, then I’ve played some godly akuma that predicted the dash and demoned.

Akuma is one godly character i tell you…

demon flip kick : late lariat trade and ex green hand.
demon flip palm / throw : back dash then spd super or U1
basically back dash is the best option here if u get hit by the kick u will be airborne and the combo is off.u could even spd if your are in range.
but of course dont back dash like nobody business. good akuma will demon flip option select ultra…just keep a look out.
normally if u back dash and sdp his ass upon meaty flips he will try not to flip again…

try to mixup with the way u dodge his fireballs. u could lariat, short jump, neutral jump.
after a few fireballs thrown, he will bound to do the flip on u. anticipate it and give him a smash with ur head on nj up+hp
learn to anticipate when he will run away. chase him with GH and spd upon his teleport animation ends.
