What Stick/Controller Should I Buy? Read the Guide on Pg 1 Before Posting

Yeah I agree, the Blaz Blue TE is a collectors item and can fetch a handsome price to the right buyers.

Which pcb is superior? Button layout don’t mean shit to me really. Noir, vewlix, i can use em all

The Soul Calibur V Stick has a better PCB I would imagine since it’s newer. Just buy both and sell the BlazBlue stick IMO.

Hey all new to the boards as of today. Been Lurking for the last couple of weeks. I’ve always played with a gamepad but decided to get a stick for a couple of reasons. One to up may game and second to play more traditional arcade games with some friends. I was able to nab 2 for a good price I think.

First one I Actually had in my hands was the limited edition Street Fighter X Tekken fightStick PRO for $50
And later the same day my Soul edition came in. I was able to get that one for $65.

Invited some friends over and we played BlazBlue, then (after some fiddling) we got to playing some of that Dungeons and Dragons HD arcade game on PC. It was tons of fun.

Anyway any advice for possible future sticks or possible upgrades? I’ll probably change the square gates to octagonal gates.

Octagonal Gates aren’t that great, there is a reason (the majority) Tourney pros and Modders agree that Square gates work better.
But everyone is different. If you want to remain frugal just skip on the Octo Gates, if you feel like you want to experiment go ahead as you can always change the gates back to what they were before.

"advice for possible future sticks"
Its a slippery Slope that becomes very addictive. I started out with a badly made DIY stick built into a empty Aluminum PSP case, and now I have like 6 different actual sticks and I modded/repaired a dozen more.

Now that is said, look for those sticks that fits your personal preference, sticks you find comfortable and fits your sensibilities. Most sticks now have Sanwa parts by default which are good because Sanwa quickly became the industry standard for arcade sticks. But do not overlook Seimitsu which their parts are just as good, many players and modders (including myself) prefer Seimitsu Parts.

The octo gate is not for everyone, but the people that like them (like me), will defend them through the strongest of counter arguments.
Just let that be a warning, that if someone is trying to convince you to get an octo gate, they will make them sound better than they are. I love them, and I abhor square gates, which is why I never played on a Japanese stick until about 6 years ago, and I will defend them through thick and thin… But from experience, I’ll say this: Only one of the maybe 10 people I’ve convinced to go try one… actually stuck with it, and he doesn’t prefer it, he’s just too lazy to swap it back out.

Yeah octos aren’t as good as you expect them to be. It makes sense that you can just ride the gate on them, but as you get better, you’ll learn that the sticks aren’t designed for you to ride the gate anyway.

As for sticks, get the ones you want in the quantity you want and stop there. Trust me lol. I buy way too many sticks and now I have a big thread in the Trading Outlet trying to get rid of all of my extra ones haha. I like to try out new sticks though so it’s been good to me and I don’t lose too much money, but it’s probably more trouble than it’s worth.

Hi. I’m having a little dilemma about what stick to buy.
I wanted to buy an SFxT Fightstick V.S. for $207 (I’ll probably get two of them plus a connection kit)
and then I saw the SFxT Fightstick Pro going for $107.
I want to buy two of the same kind so when I play against someone we both have the same conditions.
Those prices include tax and shipping, and they are the lowest I’ve seen considering the fact that I don’t live in the US.
As you can see, the price difference between those two is substantial, and especially so if I’m going to buy two (plus the connection kit if I go with the VS).

  1. Now, does the VS worth that difference? What do you think?
  2. Which is considered more comfortable by most players?
3 .Is it reasonably possible to mod the Pro with an MC Cthulhu? (I don’t know if I’ll do it anyway, but just in case, I want to know if it is possible)

I’m going to use it on a PC. The prices I’ve mentioned refer to the PS3 ver. The Xbox360 ver costs substantialy more.
4. Is there any advantage for the Xbox360 ver over the PS3 ver when using on a PC? Does the headphone jack make any difference on the PC? Any difference in game compatibility on the PC?

  1. What are my options if I’ll want to use the stick on the Wii or Wii U? (not something critical, but I want to know)
  2. What are my options if I’ll want to use the stick on the original Xbox? (not something critical, but I want to know)

Thanks!

  1. The VS has the better constructed case, same Sanwa parts. The VS is worth it.

  2. Can’t say as every player is different. But the majority of players say the VS.

  3. Is it reasonably possible to mod with an MC Cthulhu? YES

  4. Is there any advantage for the Xbox360 ver over the PS3 ver when using on a PC? NO Does the headphone jack make any difference on the PC? NO, you can’t use the headphone jack on the PC
Any difference in game compatibility on the PC? Officially NO, unofficially I say the their PS3 stick works better.

  5. What are my options if I’ll want to use the stick on the Wii or Wii U? Toodles PiiWii Board

  6. What are my options if I’ll want to use the stick on the original Xbox? MC Cthulhu or PS360+

P.S. V.S. for $207 (shipping and tax included) is not a bad deal in the states, so out of the US thats Awesome.

Two VSes linked together is a pretty great stick.

I’m a relatively new player to the fighting game spectrum. I’ve only really concentrated on Mortal Kombat and haven’t had the opportunity or incentive to get into many of the other titles. However, I consider myself a decent player; still need to work out the kinks and bad habits. Right now my focus has been MK9 on the PC and I’m looking for an arcade stick to play it with. I’ve been adjusting to the keyboard, but it doesn’t feel quite right, or “proper.” I’ve actually only used sticks in arcade settings. The previous MK titles I’ve played have all been on consoles with gamepads, so this will be the first arcade stick in my possession. That said, I’d like to be able to run it stock and not bother myself with mods and the like.
I’ve had my eye on the HORI V3 SA KAI. Not too expensive, and seems durable and reliable enough given how I intend to use it. From the guide on the first page, the standard V3 SA seems like a good buy, so I’m assuming the Kai will live up to the former’s reputation.

That’s a good stick, but save yourself some money and get one of these instead. I would go for the MCZ ones as the Hori stick is a big heavy and big. Either MCZ stick will be sufficient. All 3 are around 130$ with shipping/tax, maybe even less with free shipping or prime

MCZ SFXT Line
MCZ SV5

Cool; I’ll check those out. I know this is a minor detail compared to the performance and quality of sticks, but is there any chance of altering or replacing the aesthetics on the surface? Say you have/want a stick with art from a particular game that you don’t play, would you be able to do something about it, or rather just suck it up and not pay attention to the art?

It is typically pretty easy to do something about the art. Check out tek-innovations.com for solutions for the more popular sticks.

I like the Kai a good deal. The not-game-specific art is good, too.

Arcadeshock.com is selling the Hori Pro N3 SA for a really good price, and is one of my favorites of this gen:

Plus, it’s not quite as common a stick.

FYI, the EVO sale is in effect through Midnight tomorrow:

The MCZ SCV stick - $20 off with code EVO20

The MCZ TTT2 stick - $60 off with code EVO60.

Free shipping on stick Mod Parts and accessories, or Fightstick Pros with code EVOFREE.

I personally have both the SCV and TTT2 from precious sales and love them both. I like the TE chassis. MCZ sells plenty of parts (like bezels and sides in other colors), and as Hustle Kong said, you can get art and plexis for them at Tek-Innovations. If you get the 360 version, you can also easily dual-mod them with a PhreakMods Cerberus.

what the difference between MCZ SFXT line and the Cross?

Nothing different quality wise or build wise.

The differences are cosmetic, Line and cross have 2 different versions of the top panel art.
Obviously LINE as more lines in the art separating the graphic into what looks like comic book panels
while cross has one bigger image.

Yep. Line and Cross are exactly the same. One thing I found that was kinda weird- I always figured the Sanrio stick was the same as a regular SFxT Pro stick, but from what I can tell, it appears lighter. Not 100% sure on that though.

Different colors on plastic expand or contract while they cool in their molds

Alrighty, so after a bit of research and thought, I’ve decided to keep my eye on Hori sticks almost exclusively. I’m drawn to the HRAP models, preferably those with all-Sanwa parts as stock. I probably won’t do any modding right away, but I’m real interested in doing so when I get accustomed to the stick. As I understand it, the Kai’s buttons are spaced out from the stick more than its SA predecessor; what are the other major differences? I’ve also heard that to swap out the art for a custom template, the original decal has to be ripped off to get at the plate screws.

I think what it boils down to is I’m looking for a quality, all-Sanwa stick that’s a bit newbie friendly to mod. Maybe I should look at the earlier HRAP sticks?
