At $200, you can get just about any stick on the market, except for some of the limited release models. Out of curiosity, is the SF4 Collector’s edition the SE? And what don’t you like about it? The parts in that are Sanwa clone, and that can affect what your final choice will be. Right now, you can get a Madcatz TE (in various designs) from the Madcatz store for $99, then get an octagonal gate and you’re set. If the Sanwa buttons turn you off, you can swap them out for Seimitsu and still be under $200.

Yeah it’s the SE stick. I primarily don’t like the fact that it’s a 4 corner gate, and the shape of it makes it uncomfortable for couch play.

You do know that you can just change the gate, right? You will have to in any stick you get as the sticks you find on the market at the moment only come with square.

SE sticks are ok with Sanwa parts. My own preference would be for the MadCatz Soul Edition stick for 360 as it’s good build quality and easy to mod.

If you wanted something more extravagant for your budget then try the MadCatz V.S. stick currently on sale or the updated eTokki Omni stick.

Aside from that the Hori HRAP V series is ok, along with the Qanba Q4 RAF.

Questions, Questions…
First, the explanation:
I’m looking to buy a tourney stick, and have my eye on the EightArc Fusion models, as they have a PCB that allows play on multiple systems…
That said, here are my concerns:

1) How durable are the EightArc fusions, and do they suffer from the problems that Qanbas have had?
2) With the advent of new systems, is it worth it to buy a stick now, or wait?
3) How are the eTokki sticks? The Omni is a little plain looking, but has multi-platform capability as well.
4)In Your Opinion, would you go with a V.S. SFxT stick or an eight Arc Fusion?

Thanks for any and all constructive criticisms!

1. Eight Arc uses the same electronics and PCBs as Qanba. So if you have concern with Qanba you have thew same Attitude with Eight Arc. Basically there the same stick froma different dealer/distributor.

2. The PS4 isn’t launching until December, are you planing to trash your PS3 when the PS4 comes out? You can always mod your stick later on to include or convert to PS4.

3. The eTokki Omni stick uses the Paewang PCB, the same PCB in the Paewang Stick and the Datel Stick.

4. V.S. SFxT. If you want it to be dual modded get the Xbox 360 version (over all easier to mod having the 360 PCB) and get the Cthulhu, Chimp, Kitty TE or Cerberus. You could go with the PS360+ but it does not matter what system you get your stick for.
I don’t have a PS3, hence my interest in EightArc and eTokki. I have no experience with Qanba, I’m just concerned based on your extremely informative stick specs FAQ. What issues are common with Qanba? The synthesis looks so luscious. I like the transparent body and the buttons are slick.
I’ve read that the Paewang PCB is good.
I’m definitely leaning toward the V.S. mainly because of it’s weight, may mod the art. I definitely love my TE S, and the V.S. has the same PCB, etc, correct?

“I’m definitely leaning toward the V.S. mainly because of it’s
weight, may mod the art. I definitely love my TE S, and the V.S. has the
same PCB, etc, correct?”
The TE-S and the VS use the same PCB and electronics.

Paewang is a good go to for a all in one board for sticks. The PCB lacks a Auto Detect (you have to use Turbo to switch modes) and its not immune to some issues although they are few minor and rare issues.
Biggest issue is getting locked into a Mode, and some occasional freezing, but those issues are rare enough that eTokki considers it not a concern. Same rate as some Hori and Mad Catz boards.

Issues I heard from unofficial sources about Qanba.
Drop in puts and Lag
Failure to be detected

Some Modders report some difficulty with some basic mods with the Qanba, like installing a LED controller or additional dual-mods.
And some modders refuse to work on Qanba. Don’t ask who please as I don’t think it is professional to say. To make a point, some Modders also refuse to work on Hit Box or what ever.

The last issue is Qanba is considered a Grey-Market item. But it self Grey market isn’t bad nor illegal but consumers should understand what is a grey-market items.

What is Grey Market?

There is the “White market” or the legitimate trade/ market where perfectly legit items are sold fairly.
There the Black market, which concerns in stolen or fraudulent goods.

Grey Markets sits on the line and sits in the grey area where the law concerns.

There several ways a item can be Grey-Market.

1. Unofficial/ unauthorized dealers/ distribution.

Did that Nikkon Lens came from Nikon USA Inc or from a dealer/distributor who got the lens straight from the Factory in Hong Kong?
Did you New Hori Stick was from a Dealer/Retailer/Distributor who got there Hori Stick from Hori USA or Hori’s China based factory?

If your item come from the US distributor (who usually have a New York or California Address) then its a normal (white market item)
Was it from a dealer who buy directly from the Factory or overseas? Then its Grey Market.

These Grey Market Items do not have to have their warranties honored by the manufacturer at all. That most companies in the US will not honor the product if it lacks the US Warranty card. The rules change a bit in Europe and Asia. Europe might have a blanket office and warranty for European locations but often the UK has their own offices and warranty card. Same with Asian countries. It becomes foggier in South America and Africa. Now if you buy your item overseas and bring it home with you, often the US distributor will still honor the warranty, the actual policy will vary with each Holding Company.

Example: Pokemon USA does not give a fuck about your Japanese Language Pokemon cards. Although (the camera company) Canon would accept for repairs the legally purchased and owned L-series FX zoom lens you got in Tokyo (if you keep the recite).

This is perfectly legal to buy these grey market items, the catch for getting items not sold in your home country or bypassing the middle-man to be cheaper, you will void your chance at a warranty.
Where it becomes illegal if the dealer/retailer or seller buys the Grey-market item and deceives you on its origins and tells you its an “authorized” item

2. Unauthorized use of patterned or copyrighted materials or design. (Not to be confused with Piracy which deals with copying)

Prime example, Microsoft is very strict on licensing on 3rd party products. They have a electronic lock-out for unauthorized controllers.

Qanba, along with makers of the Paewang/Datel PCB, PS360+, Mayflash and a few others do not secure rights for the products they are manufacturing for.
In short Microsoft never has licensed or authorized Qanba to make Xbox 360 compatible controllers.

Now it is perfectly legal to own, sell and trade these items, its illegal to produce in countries where the patten or copyright holder holds rights. Its why the Cthulhu does not support the Xbox 360 on it’s own.
China (among other countries) have kinda foggy and unclear laws on patents and copyright. So the China based Manufacturer can legally produce knock off Microsoft controller decrypted chips and put them into sticks.

Some of Qanba’s sticks (the ones that are Xbox 360 compatible or has unlicensed art from various games) fall in to this catigory.

Is it legal to sell as long as the dealer is upfront about it, they way Eight Arc or Focus Attack is, they will tell you the whole deal with the item and so on. Many Import shops for anime and video games and the better Camera Retailers are the same way. Although only the Better Camera shops actually use the term Grey-market when describing an item. Import shops just say the item is a Import.

Lucky for us Qanba and Eight Arc has a excellent Return policy that applies to the US.

Its perfectly legal to sell, own, use or trade.
While PDP hasn’t confirmed anything, all signs point to Sanwa parts (JLF + LB-30 bat top).

Hey,

So i’m trying to find a PS2 arcade stick and so far, every single one I have found are either sold out or they come with other nonsense where I have to pay extra. I then came across this stick:

http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/mas-system-pro-arcade-sticks/dual-pro-mas-stick-for-ps-ps2-dreamcast-w-competition-stick-full-size-dualmascompfull-mas-detail.htm

Can someone give me opinion on this stick? How hard is it to mod it? (since they only come in circular and 8 way gates and I have a spare Sanwa square gate joystick to replace it with) Is there any other PS2 sticks that are better choices.
Scroll up, and read some of my earlier posts. I already did a huge break down of Qanba vs Mad Catz. And if you ask me 99.9 times out of 100 I recommend Mad Catz or Hori over Qanba.

Stop asking this one people.

For the Most part all the PS2 sticks are discontinued. There has not been a really a PS2 stick on the market in like years. Arcade Shock and their version of the Mas stick is more of a in-house custom.
From their picture the stick looks like it is all Happ, but the description says Japanese parts (yeah… right). Honestly Modding a MAS should be straight forwards.
Can anyone recommend a site that sells sticks within the EU? I live in Denmark and they have you pay a fee, for erm…, paying the fee (tarif), if the item shipped to you comes from outside the EU and the price is just not worth it.

Hello, SRK. I’ve recently been getting into fighting games, and so getting a stick seems to be a good idea. I play DoA5, VF5:FS, TTT2, and Accent Core Plus R on the PS3, and I’ve heard a lot about the HORI Fighting Edge. However, that was about half a year ago, so I’m wondering if there have been/will be any new releases that I may want to look at before I decide on the Fighting Edge.

Looking to buy a stick exclusively for Dreamcast fighters. Suggest arcade stick builders here to talk to.
I already have a multi-platform stick to play all the modern systems. I just want a stick for Dreamcast only.

I’m looking for seimitsu buttons and a crown battop joystick with a Qanba PCB.

Nothing yet from the usual rumor mills as far as Hori goes. I recommend the V3 Pro SA or the VX Pro SA over the fighting edge.

You are on the wrong thread if you want a custom. This thread is Buying guide for Retail Arcade controllers.

Also you are being confusing here you want a Modded Qanba or a modded Dreamcast stick?

^ Thx
I’m leaning towards a modded qanba because I also want PC functionality. So Dreamcast and PC gaming.

Qanba isn’t the only ones that do PC compatibility.

All Xbox 360 sticks do PC compatibility, and Most PS3 sticks (older Mad Catz TE has issues with non-intel machines)
All of the boards that are used for dual-mods have excellent PC compatibility.
