What people message you online, KOF XIII Edition

Thats basically the sacrifice you get when making FG’s.

You can either make a good competitive fighting game and take a sales hit… or you can make an easymode game that really isn’t competitive at all but can be casually fun and appeals to a lot more people.

Honestly though even if KOF made this game easy mode like SF4/MvC3 I dont know if that would really pull in more sales. Capcom has the budget to perform much better marketing campaigns along with the fact they have titles that are household names.

Heck, I think KOF would lose sales if they tried to go easy mode. Like I said, doing as they have, it has allowed them to stand out. Plus going easy mode would probably have pissed off the hardcore fans more than it would have appealed to new folks.

If SNK wants people to buy KOF, then they know exactly what they need to do: Put Ryu and Chun Li in the game. That’s all you need for your fighting game to get bought, regardless of quality.

They already tried to make a more casual KOF game, the result was XII.

Isn’t Kyo kind of the Ryu and Mai the Chun Li?

Totally different archetypal characters and too different in the types of gameplay. It’s just Capcom tried to market them as equivalents in CVS2. Kyo’s personality and lifestyle is the total opposite of Ryu’s as well with Chun Li and Mai. It’s just Kyo at the time was the leading flagship character for the SNK brand in Asia while Mai was the leading female representative of the company. For Capcom it’s Ryu and Chun Li, so that’s why there was a comparison.

I meant more of just the poster boy/girl. I didn’t mean they had similarities in atchtypes or personalities or anything.

Oh ok lol. At least in the West though, I’d say Terry has a stronger presence than Kyo though. I think if SNKP wants to push more SNKP stuff in the West, they should use Terry. They even have the Terry & Nakoruru Club in Japan that support education and other organizations.

We’re getting off topic, but my point is that SNK will never sell well to the people that want an easy-mode game because Capcom is already doing it. The only way SNK can find sales is to target the folks who want hardcore gaming experiences - in much the same way that the only way Demon’s Souls could find sales was to be a much harder (and thus, rewarding) experience than all the games that were popular at the time.

Capcom is selling to the masses not only because they are selling easy-mode games, but also because they are selling something that will beat great balance and a rewarding combat system in every match-up: Nostalgia. Only in Central and South America (and a few small pockets of North America, like mine…) can KOF rival SF when it comes to memories of putting your lunch money into an arcade cabinet when it still bothered you that girls had cooties.

Just wondering…is there any penalty to quitting during a ranked match?
Or rage quit?

I don’t think so since I’ve got so many people dropping when I played, but I think the guy who stayed gets the win. Not positive though.

I OCV’d a guy with Billy. I messaged him ‘GG Billy can be annoying’ and he messaged back ‘so is spamming’

KOF is much much more popular than SSF in Asian country. For example, go to an arcade or game store in Hong Kong, you will see people playing mostly KOF. Most people in HK or China (at least in my generation *80s) grew up with KOF 96 97 98, I still remember back then I used to go to game store to rent NEO GEO 97’ machine to play with bunch of friends. It’s like 2 dollars an hour, these were the good times :stuck_out_tongue: Even today, people in Asian country still much prefer KOF over SF

Havn’t received much, but I can’t say I’ve played a lot online either. Like 50 matches total. Pretty much only sent gg’s and talked with some people on friendlist about how hard it is to play properly online. Did get this today though:

toi aussi t’en fais pas tu es bon sa se vois direct - and a quick google translate gives me: you also do not worry you are good to see her live

Whatever that means, but I’ll take it as a compliment! I’ll never understand why people just assume that you are from somewhere, when you just played once online. I love sending a message to someone, in english, and get a reply fully in russian, french etc.

Oh, and I also got a message with: venomstrikeXD
I guess he found it funny that I was using venomstrike with King, instead of doing the only proper online tactic: mash cr.B or do a bunch of random specials over and over.

He said something like this: You too. Don’t worry, you’re good, you can see that right away. (I took the liberty of fixing the punctuation.)

Do you remember if he was beating you?

On voice chat some dude last night said to me “Are you turning on some kind of device?”, “I KNOW it’s not my connection.”, “You’re using a lag switch!”.
I found it quite hilarious, I was losing and not lagging. This guy just started trippin out. I did perfect his Billy Kane and he said something about lag but I couldn’t understand him through the microphone. I don’t understand what he was upset about with his two bar connection.

I guessed it was something like that, but thanks for translating it properly

We were fairly even, but I guess most games went to him. He had something like 300 wins, and not that many losses, so he had a lot more experience than me. Some games he would shut me down quite a lot, because I’m having a hard time punishing stuff with lag. Especially vs his Kula and Vice.

Don’t really know how to punish most of their stuff, since 90% seem to play Kyo, Robert, Ryo, Takuma or something “shoto-like” online.
