Alright well lets look their options after a knockdown…
Ken: Close standing strong. Can only be parried high. Gives you advantage. Can go into chain combo, confirm super or jab dragon (in most situations). Can create a tic throw scenario. Can follow up with hit confirmed super (punishing a whiffed throw, etc).
Sean: Close standing strong. Can only be parried high. Gives you advantage. Can go into chain combo. I believe you can link SA3 if the chain combo hit crouching, but don’t quote me on that. Can create a tic throw scenario. Can follow up with hit confirmed super (low forward super).
Would go into more detail but it’s basically the same thing, except that Ken can potentially do much more damage.
I mean, Sean has small advantages over Ken, but they’re really insignificant compared to what Ken can do. For example, Sean’s standing jab has more frame advantage than any other shoto… but I mean… So what??? Doesn’t really help much when chun li can just low forward super and proceed to LOLOLOLOLOL on your face. His SA2 meter is smaller than Ken’s SA2 and it’s a projectile… but so what? It takes frames for it to travel, so essentially as far as speed Ken’s super is faster and has more reach, probably does more damage too. This is not to say that Sean’s super is useless. It’s just not as useful as Ken’s, I believe.
I think you can learn a lot by playing the low tier characters, and you can even win tournaments with those same characters. But some characters clearly require less effort to win with.
Naw, Sean’s bottom tier. Sad to say, even with the general shoto tools, 12 has waaaaaay better pokes and meaty options. His specials are better as well… As much as I like Sean, I can’t be naive to those facts.
Twelve is harder to fight than Sean.Twelve has a really annoying hit and run strategy and has unique character advantages. Theres nothing Sean has that he can call his own special advantage over others like Uriens aegis or Q’s taunts/karathrow.
Seriously though, I don’t think IMO twelve has TOO many advantages over many of the cast (Is it safe to say he doesn’t at all?), but some of his major disadvantages, Sean doesn’t seem to have that hard of a time, like Elena, Ken, and Urien. Chun is another bad matchup, but hey, it’s Chun. You gotta be patient.
The only thing I see that Hugo has over Sean is that he’s better in close range, which is IMO Sean’s best spot. Other than that, Hugo isn’t too hard for Sean. Sean can just poke and play him at a slight range. Once close, Sean needs to do what he needs to do, and fast.
This is what we got into another time about a yr ago…
This is a Sean thread…why the fuck are ppl talking about Hugo and others here? lol…And, why do we even have this particular thread here? We need to close this.
Stop being pointlessly defensive about one of the worst characters in the game. This thread is called ‘What makes Sean so terrible?’. Is it difficult to conceive of someone bringing up another character to compare Sean to? Jesus.
OK, let me start by saying, I’m not being rly that defensive…I don’t care who the person is, this is just a thread to bash a character. I don’t think it matters if it’s Sean or Yun/Chun, threads like this are useless outside of finding a way to bash a character most of the time. There’s a lot of clutter like this already. I think there is an old thread like this already in the Sean forums…
As far as comparing characters to Sean, I think it’s better to either keep those characters on their respective threads, or at least have a matchups thread, where people can put more than an opinion up there about fellow comparisons…I think there’s one up there already…It can be something that ppl can learn from. That’s what I meant.
I can care less about him being the worst. If he was the best, I would’ve said the same thing…Also, I’m pretty effective with him, so that’s all that matters.
man, I hate that they changed this about him for 3S. His original recipe/2I version’s DP was WAAAAAY better than that non-comboing piece of poo he has in 3S (I think I can super cancel off the LP version mostly). He’s still my favorite character in the game, and his footsie game is decent. But like (surprise) Dan, you have to work a lot harder to get the most out of him.
Sean is great if you know the game well enough to exploit the other characters’ weaknesses. He has those disadvantages though that you just can’t get around.
