this? ahha i assume you agree with me?
He needs more juggling!
Not entirely true. You can technically start charging for Ultra even after you release your FA. But, since most Guiles stock up charge whatever reason, pulling off an Ultra after (level 3) FA crumple should be easy . Just start buffering just before their knees hit the floor. When it does, the input for the Ultra should be finished. LV 2+ FA crumple should nab you cr. mp + hk combo pretty easily. Again, combos should be fairly basic things we Guiles should be doing. Then again, it’s not like I really do many ‘advanced’ combos. Poke here. Poke there. In the end, it gets the job done. .

Yoshinori Ono doesnt like americans
Boxer and Rufus got the love though…
i mean american soldiers
Guile is mid-tier because he has 4-6 matchups against MOST of the cast. That’s the only valid reason. WHY he has 4-6 matchups against most of the cast is answered in here.
Yes, you have summed it up. Hopefully we’ll have an end to these threads now.
I think at a high level of play there are just too many odds stacked against guile.
For general play he can be rewarding.
I’m sticking with him because…

I believe (hope) capcom will upgrade him, so suck it up now, improve and when the patch comes out, you should get a free 10-15% gain on your opponents health bar, which can automatically mean you beat people who you are not quite able to atm because he’s under powered.

You can pick ryu/sagat/akuma, but they are so popular, what you will gain in damage, you will probably lose out in mathchups because EVERYONE knows what to expect.
Guile is still a dark horse and is only really danagerous in the hands of old schoolers who never quite hit it off with regular shotos.
yes his flash kick is annoying, I would also like to see them add a new super, like the one in Alpha 1 with charlie, so you can combo it like boxers.
I am getting people with his ultra, but I’m annoyed that others can tag theirs one so easy. Guiles requires some major prediction and if you miss it. You’re fucked. It makes me jealous of seeing sagat players, given they seem to be able to link theirs of the most easy stuff and cause so much damage.
Where did you get this info from?
Cuz if it’s just ‘hear - say’, don’t post stuff like this. It gets certain people wet in the pants.
In general this is true cuz Guile still only has 2 moves. I’m an oldschool SF2-Guile-player…so yeah, I agree.
It’s annoying how people keep asking for Guile to have juggles or reliable ways to combo his ultra. Seriously, there are tons of characters with shitty ultras. And I would hate for Guile’s game to revolve totally around landing his ultra.
Juggles better compliment people like Sagat and shotos, but no Guile. Guile isn’t really a combo machine. More power to you if you happen to land one. but combos aren’t that essential for Guile.
There are other areas where he need improvement. More range on his d.mk, a better hitbox for his flashkick, and increased damage on his sonic booms. Like Honda's headbutt, it would be nice if the flaskick autocorrect with strict timing of course. He needs better chip, there is no reason why sonic boom chip shouldn't be comparable to tiger shot chip. Also ex sonic booms need to knock down.
Probably a better hitbox on his j.lk. Other than that, that’s all what is needed to make Guile a solid and more competitive mid tier. Guile, if give too much can easily become god tier. his character design is that powerful. You have to be careful when giving Guile too much, or else you’ll have another Sagat.
But honestly, I wouldn’t mind a CE Guile. Sagat takes a lot of skill to play, and Guile no matter how powerful he is, will always require a lot of skill. But still even if he’s only mid tier, you could conceivable win tournaments with him. At Guile’s core, he’s not that bad in SFIV, it’s that he was screwed a lot mainly in the damage department. He’s always had terrible crossup defense, but what made him more volatile was his damage output was always decent enough to the point he seemed better than he actually was. Too many mistakes against Guile in ST lead to a lot of damage. In SFIV, not so much, and that’s his main issue.
I was testing the other day and i honestly dont know whether its a tease or not from capcom but:
On ryu
Jump in hk - c.mp - high flash kick = 298dmg
Jump in hk - c.lp - c.lp - cmp - high flash kick = 299dmg
if this was posted before anywhere i apoligize, but this kinda made me laugh when i saw it.
But to add on a few things, if your good at defense in regards to grabs, and u realize that ur standard hp is alot better and faster than flashkick, u can work around majority of charachters.
I only have one problem when i play with guile and thats just dmg taken, capcom knows there are some mistakes with guile but who cares, they are known clearly by everyone and you gotta suck it up to play.
Everything guile does seems a little slower cuz there sweep moves rather than just straight out kicks, like regular mks, but i would consider him mid tier not low tier strictly because he doesnt have a easy ultra, juggle into ultra or give high damage, and if guile was given just one of those you would realize how much better he would be without even changing any move he has.
I think at a high level of play there are just too many odds stacked against guile.

The more I play guile, the more I am starting to realise that play him OLD SCHOOL.
If opponent has an ultra, leave them well alone on wakeup, keep your sitance, anticipate the range of their ultra, always be on your toes with guile and don’t be afraid to go with the physic flash kick. Its quite effective.
Fully agree, i think if he just had more health or better throw damage it would be enough to balance out his negatives. His ultras is whatever, but consider it a bonus anyways, everyones mashing out ultras and sticking there game to it, which is nub play anywas
The hitbox on his awful FK needs to be a lot smaller. It’s fucking retarded that the animation goes behind him and you can be hit by a crossup when Guile is a full character length away if they kick the “flash” animation… but his FK won’t hit the person crossing up. wtf
His c.mk was a great poke in ST but it’s awful in SF4. The recovery time on the bazooka knee needs to be radically lower so you can actually use it to move forward and boom. Not like now where you’re just asking to be punished for using it.
I agree that Guile shouldn’t revolve around the ultra or juggles, but at the very least df.hk > ultra should be an option. Or just ditch the PoS ultra all together and give us a b, f, b ,f ppp boom based ultra. I wouldn’t mind that his ultra did such piss poor dmg if it was actually easy to juggle to. ie, Ryu, Boxer, etc. Low dmg but cake to hit with. Hell, you can’t even use Guile’s ultra as a reliable anti-air.
Look at Abel, not only does his ultra do massive dmg, but c.hp > ultra is one of the easiest juggles in the game IMO.
I don’t think he needs more health and even his low stamina would be justified if he actually had other strengths to balance it.
-
Doesn’t do enough damage.
-
His “get the fuck off me” move doesn’t have enough invincibility frames, meaning people don’t get the fuck off him.
-
Hard to land Ultra that does crap damage compared to everyone else’s Ultra when it does land.
Guile high kick isn’t new, just a different input then before.
I totally agree. Guile needs higher priority on his FK & Ultra. FK is extremely unreliable now, while everyone else has multiple anti-air options that can totally knock out Guile. EVERY character can stuff FK completely if the opponent jumps in higher. So this gives Guile ZERO option against crossups which is just complete bullshit. Why? cuz every other character has a way to counter crossups except Guile. WTF?
Low health, stupidly low stun meter, lack of mixups, zero crossup counter options, shit priority on FK, useless Ultra and does shit damage on all his attacks…
Aside from his obvious anti-air FK that gets stuffed by practically everything in the air, I was thinking maybe change his ultra to the D,F,D,F motion so that maybe we can actually connect the ultra off a FK --> FADC. I mean, his ultra is already a pissed poor unreliable move anyways. At least give us the chance to use it in the game let alone actually hit something with it.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see my opponents laugh and point at my Ultra bar when it’s full.
Guile is only good for counterpicking dictator, otherwise he sucks
