What makes a good point character?

I didn’t mean to sound like a dick before. I understand how it is to answer noob questions a while after the game has been out (in this case 10 years lol).

The question is vague for vets I know, but I think I speak for everyone when I say every little bit helps. So take the question however you want and spew out some words of wisdom.

As far as a team goes, I’ve started using megaman/guile/jugg. Won a few matches and seems to be working fine, although my zoning strat with megaman isn’t netting me much meter. Not sure If I’m playing him wrong or he just sucks at building meter as well.

I’d also like to clarify one thing; (this may just be me but…) When i say i’m not looking to be competitive, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to win, it just means that I recognize that I’m probably never going to be in the top 8 at EVO so I’m not really concerned with what are unfortunately proven strategies a la top tier teams.

And thanks for the help to those who contributed. I greatly appreciate it.

I agree with pretty much everything you just said, HotSauce.

Well said, good sir.

Use someone that has special quirks that no one else has for instance

BB Hood’s s. HK bomb sits there even after being push blocked
Dhalsim has an infinite runaway with teleports+air dash
Zangief has crazy throw range when you can get it

Another good asset for a point character is the ability to cover their assists. Cable can do this just with the threat of AHVB. Sentinel can do this thru HP. Magneto can rush down and cross up to protect assist. Storm has hail-storm and can also rushdown/crossup.

Don’t count Guile out. Tron proj. assist+sweep into sonic boom super = goodbye half your opponents life. Oh and you can cancel that into Proton cannon for stupid damage if you have 2 bars.

Ruby Heart has a really annoying trap with doom rocks backing her up. This guy I know used to rape me with it until i got better.

Akuma is also fun to play you just have to accept he’s gonna die.

#1 thing is the ability to adapt with the character.

you do - just pick someone you enjoy playing and it should flow.
cranking out ocv’s against suckers picking teams they saw in videos is the best.

It’s not that type of game.

lol my bad
don’t worry about playing who you want, how you want, or trying for that matter

just lrn2MSS and call it a day

:lame:

Well, everything that every other cat mentioned. I think the most important thing would be mobility. Mobility allows you to move about like the wind (in MvC2 terms…) Magneto, Storm are the top characters when it comes to mobility. And because of their mobility, theyre able to perform combos that other characters cant perform, due to their mobile “stiffness”. The next thing (for me) would be offensive output/defensive stamina. Its rare though to have both with exception of Sentinel, Cable and a few others. Its like a basketball team…if you have a juggernaut offense, then most likely your defense isnt as good. Then, it would be lag time recovery. This is very important, because this could be the difference in a victory/defeat. Some characters can get away with bad lag, but not for long, because players will zoom them for their flaws. Next, would be combo ability. Its not that important, but it can make your opponent somewhat intimidated with your potential. The last thing, I guess, would be health recovery while resting. In close matches, your characters have to recover quick enough, because they might be thrown right back in there, due to snapbacks. Just enough to feel confident enough to battle without worrying about chip deaths or from mistake-based damage recieved.
