yeah guessing isn’t so much of a problem with high-level 3s. if you pay attention you’ll notice that actual good players don’t parry on wakeup more than like 5% of the time

the real Bad Things about sf3 parry are safe option selects + the amount of guaranteed damage you get off of them

i have no problem with soul calibur GIs for example - they have a decent-sized whiff animation and you don’t get anything guaranteed from them, just mixups. plus SC in general has a lot more unsafe moves than 3s, so GIs aren’t worth using nearly as often as parries are. they’re a complementary move rather than a central focus of the game, and that’s how it should be imo

When someone has Ultra you either make them use it early or play smart and not get ass raped by the system.
