Well, it’s because people on both sides have issues. SRK old-timers tend to be a little closed-minded when it comes to anything new and/or different from a very well-established fighter formula. But on the other hand, Smashers are (in general) new to competitive fighters. So when it comes to comparing Smash to other games (i.e. GGXX^C or SFIIIs), some of them tend to be naive, uninformed, arrogant little pricks.
Those are just generalizations, of course. Most guys in both communities are okay, especially when they have experience in both Smash and other fighters.
The most informed players usually tend to be the more neutral ones though.
Excellent answer. I was going to post that. Not much hardcore gamers see themselves using Mario to fight Kirby in a tourney or wathever.
People don’t like it because of guys like you that create 242562 threads about why people should like it, or why people should not like it. Asides from that, I am pretty sure the game is great and the community is great as well. Just the nickname Marvel Jr shows that the game has got some acceptance from many top players.
