There were loads of 1vs1 and 2vs1 fighting games on home computer systems like Commodore 64, Spectrum etc, long before street fighter came out.

This is the problem. People are way too much into Daigo. It’s like they’re aren’t even paying respects to the guys skills. Everyone knows he’s a great player. No doubt about it but what the Hell is this crap? It’s like some unhealthy obsession with him. It’s sickening.

Look at the thread title. We’re not even talking about a game. This is about what would Daigo be doing if SF didn’t exist. Seriously? SERIOUSLY?! This is the unhealthy obsession fanboys bring to the table. It’s pathetic. Kinda reminds me of those crazy fans that have homemade shrines about people they obsess over and they talk to the shrine.

Art, reguardless of what it is, is influenced by everything around it. That means that things that are created with similarities and opposites of what has already been presented. All fighting games since street fighter have been influenced by it because it set new standards to the genre and defined what a fighting game is. Now, either the genre could have died if sf didn’t exist, or could have gone in a completely different direction either for the good or bad. It’s a real give or take. Even if capcom didn’t keep moving, someone else may have, but would we have responded to it in the same way being that it may have been drastically different? There’s no right or wrong answer to this question, but if we remember that it is an art, we can come up with thousands of conclusions. Great topic!

If street fighter never existed then FPS games would rule the world. Street fighter opened doors to mostly all fighting games out today. If there was no street fighter, would there be a mortal kombat, kof, tekken, etc? Maybe a new fighter would take precedent, but the fighting game genre would be different. We would be playing RPGs and FPS only.

What if the first fighting game to revolutionize the gaming industry was Clay Fighter or Shaq Fu? Think about that.

Thank God for Street Fighter. To stay on topic with this thread, I could care less what Diago would be doing.
