Plus if you factor in the post-exgh juggle wakeup games I bet that figure goes from 1/3 to about 3/4. However; maybe it is a good thing that those shitty Giefs aren’t using lariat because more people will be jumping in at all the rest of us that fiend for that jump in.
Agreed. I actually thank bad Gief players for allowing better players to jump through. This means they have to get it out of their system that they will NEVER be able to jump in on me. Resulting in them jumping in atleast 4 times in a match, they’ll never learn.
As one of those “scrubby” giefs who more or less has stopped AA lariat because i get punished too hard, I’d love for someone to shed light on how to AA PPP properly. AND do it late does not work against players that vary their jump ins/air specials. Case in point Akuma, the timing to trade w/ divekick you’ll eat jumpin hk if he choose that route. Then there’s the lk attacks aimed right at giefs noggin…i honestly don’t know how you guys do it. I been at this for a year now…
You have to just train yourself to time it perfectly. Late crouching PPP lariat beats or trades with just about everything. Adon and Sakura are the only characters with jump ins and neutral jumps that give me any trouble. Other characters can stuff lariat with the right spacing like Balrog max range j.RH (or is it FP?). Thing is, it’s lariat bait so if you know the spacing that lariat gets beat just don’t press any buttons; he whiffs and lands right next to you and you get a free SPD. There’s very few characters with safe ways to jump at Gief and not get hugged or punched.
Just when i think i got the timing down, I run across a player that completely shits on it. “bigjohnbballin” or something like that has to be the best at stuffing PPP that I’ve ever played on psn. That dude single handedly made me block more jump ins against everyone i play.
I always wonder if online input lag affects this, i may never know, i don’t play offline.

They f’d up gief in ssf4, i find i have to really step up my game and the games I win are hard earned battles. still I main Gief, I will never put him aside for another character. hopefully they bring back some of the magic from sf4.
one thing i’d like to see gone is the lag after the lp green hand. makes it easier to go across the screen.
As mentioned you have to train yourself to time it properly, as well, are we talking offline or online? Its not really a problem offlie, but online, the lag can make it seem ‘broken’/‘useless’ at times.

I still play and love Gief, but I will admit that sometimes I want to stop playing with him cause capcom is just making it harder and harder to win with him.
I play with GIEF all day, my only problem are Blanka and Akuma.

I won’t lie. I always had an itching to come into the Zangief threads and say that Gief got what he deserved, I stood no chance in hell playing against a Gief with Abel in Vanilla, in super however the matchup got so much better. Now that I’m here my desire to bash Gief is long gone and unfortunately it doesn’t feel the same anymore if I tried. All I can do now is sympathize with you folks because most of what I read around here is bitchin-g and moaning or talks about the good ol’ glory days in Vanilla, but for the never give up and loyal Gief warriors that find a way no matter the circumstances… lots of respect. If I had to bitch about something Gief related though it wouldn’t be about the character itself, but rather about the players… I guess I bashed a bit …kinda sort of. 
I guess the thing is there is an up hill battle…and climbing a mountain while fighting…I think most of us were actually fine with certain nerfs and actually sympathized for some people because o the way most Gief’s played lariat spam…but some of the changes reached BEYOND ‘scrub gief’ nerfing - and affected those who actually learned to play the character seriously…and thats were the resentment lies.
