They marketed this game a lot more than anything prior, which is why I wasn’t surprised at how lenient it is compared to previous GG games. Kinda like SF4, it’s been made to appeal to masses and sell copies. I still think it’s a great game, but the it is what it is.
That’s why SF4 really pisses me off.
They make the inputs too lenient, which makes for really sloppy controls unless you have a stick. Using Easy Inputs to appeal to the masses just doesn’t make sense. Most casual players are gonna be playing with a pad, and easy inputs just ruin SF4 on pad. Creating frustration for the majority of your consumers is not the way to sell copies. There should at least be an option to turn it off or something. BB has the same thing to some extent, but not nearly as bad as SF4, you can actually play at a high level with pad as long as you put in the time and practice.
Character variation. I just wish the game wasn’t so combo happy. A lot of the game is single player.
but… you play marvel lol
The developers sort of have to appeal to the masses here, I mean, the fighting game community just isn’t big enough to support a major game developer. They need casual money.
Who plays on pad anyway it’s all about Xbox analog stick.:smokin:
this is coming from a player who was “ehh” bout guilty gear. A player who loves 3S and MvC2, but “ehh” about sf4. . . . .
BLAZBLUE IS THE SHIT!
Not only is this game beautiful, it’s a really good system of fighting. I’ve played a lot of online and a lot of the people that play are good meaning they don’t do cheap shit like in mvc2 or sf4 online. This game takes a lot of skill in my opinion.
Pretty much, if you love rushing down, and seeing crazy shit on screen, then get BlazBlue.
If you love rushin’ down you need KOF!
Zeech just simply blocking B/C/D Ice Car gives you 9 frames to punish the fuck out of Jin.
also lol at that comic.
This. BB is just kinda meh to me, it looks beautiful and has great music but everything else(gameplay wise) about it just doesn’t compare with GG. It also doesn’t help that my 2 favorite characters (hakumen, and tager) just kinda suck in the face of the top tier(which is sad b/c Tager is probably the best grappler type character of all time)…I mean those 2 characters should only be able to beat Rachel, Nu, and Arakune only if those players don’t know what they’re doing.
I sooo gonna get alot of crap for this but…
THIS is why I love BlazBlue:

What can a beginner do in 9 frames? Jabs in this game are already 5-7 frames. Some B’s are 7 or 8 frames, I guess.
Add in online input delay and it’s not as trivial as you think, to punish icecar hard enough to come out ahead.
(although as Tao I just crawl under and punish… but this isnt about me
The point is, there are some simple things that can be repeated with relative safety at poor (low skill, high lag) levels of play. Even though a simple lern2play will fix the problem, too many of these sorts of things will contribute to a general perception of imbalance in new players, which is a problem BB suffers from. It’s a PR sort of thing.
Also lol at that comic
Edit: lol, I realised I mentioned mashing A/B in my original post, thus completely making myself seem foolish
Regarding character balance, I think it’s interesting that, for all its supposed unbalancedness, it hasnt seemed to impact BB’s variety in which characters people choose. Contrast with KOF98UM where you see Krauser in every video, or 3rd strike, in BB the popular characters are not the top tier ones, and the characters you never see are not the low tier ones. (I get the impression Tager and Hakumen and Bang are fairly popular, along with Nu, Noel, Jin, and Ragna. Whereas Arakune and Rachel seem a bit more rare. Litchi, Tao and Carl are pretty rare too.)
It’s still pretty easy with five-frame autofire. I can almost always punish ice-car bullshit, and it’s not like I’m a top tournament player or something. There has to be some learning curve.
For me, fighters often boil down to this …
In the beginning it’s all new and fresh, and I’m learning new things and playing new characters. Unless I just can’t stand the way it moves, looks and feels, it’s usually pretty fun just for the “newness”. But what determines whether I stick around is how the game progresses at the finer points. Some games, the more I dig in, the less I like them. SF4 was like that. It was fun for the first month. Second month I was finding more and more I didn’t like. I stopped on month 3, and haven’t played it since. Too much about the game’s pace, characters and overall style bothered me, and it got dull fast. Went back to 3s and ST, and was happy to do so.
With Blaz, I was iffy in the beginning. Once I pieced together how to play it, I enjoyed it much more. And now, even though there are balance issues and stupid properties (that always happens), it’s only gotten more interesting. The more I dig into it, the more I like it, and the more interesting the characters, match-ups and mechanics become. And this is a much bigger factor to me than balance. I don’t give two shits about balance if the game is boring.
It’s also a big plus if it’s a game I enjoy watching matches for, which I do for this one.
