well, now that i check some of my replays i guess you don’t gain life…but you don’t lose it either.
i’m still not sure if you gain life if your health meter is low when fadc fireballs but i’m not sure. too lazy to continue checking replays

but i mean, the whole point of throwing oiut projectiles is to zone and control space and use em for set ups…
but if lets say a good non projectile character like blanka or guy can get in on you without jumping but by fadc the fireballs…no point in throwing them out.

You gain ultra meter for it. And I’m pretty sure you die if you try to absorb more damage than the health you have left.

I slightly agree though. As a gouken player there’s absolutely no threat to anyone at full screen since every fb is 1 hit and obvious when its 2. But absorbing too much damage is incredibly risky. The possible reward of 2 ultras a round is a bit much considering the utility of some ultras.

zoning is not suppose to bring damage to your opponent. It’s more about controlling space

Calling Focus>Dash a safe way around Fireballs (as Juri, too!!) is pretty laughable in the first place…

Zoning is more than just using fireballs. You can zone with normals as well. If you took away Ryu’s fireball, you’d still have to deal with his SRK, cr. MK, cr. HK, f+HP and other tools. All of these moves control space

Which means our wake-up and AA options are even shittier than before, which is amazing considering we had the shittiest to begin with. No one should depend on an Ultra to win, and unless your character can combo into it then it should be plan B at best. Fuck having I-Frames on an Ultra, Rose has I-Frames on an EX special move which she can use multiple times in a round to get her out of trouble from jab mashers, carefully timed AA and wake-up.

Vega has no I-framed offensive move, which means if your crouch tech game isn’t absoultely A+ then any moron that can jump-in on our wake-up and mash jab and throws for endless mix-up possibilities. Mashers are usually the easiest people to beat but not if your character can never go on the offensive because every fucking move you throw out is stuffed by a fucking jab. Did you know our EX-Scarlet Terror (flip kick) can be stuffed by a jab? Yes our EX SCARLET TERROR. Now that’s fucking pathetic.

All I’m saying is count your blessings…and if you’re going to try to use comparisons to show how your character got the short end of the stick don’t use Vega as a example.

Games beeen out almost three years and you barley find that out yesterday. I seriously thought you were trolling after I read your first post.

Just getting the knockdown on a good claw feels godamn impossible sometimes. Only chance I have of beating Claw is surviving until I get an untechable knockdown and win off that.

I have a friend who plays a very good Claw. His pokes and invincible backdashes are a pain for me sometimes. I have to play him more and more to learn that particular matchup as Evil Ryu doesn’t have much in gimmicks to rely on to win.

Yeah he is the fastest character overall in the game. He ties with several others for fastest forward walking speed by has the fastest backward walking speed by far. So yeah, it can be annoying to catch him.

I’m assuming you mean his back flips? They are heavily punishable. Any claw who uses his PPP back-flip isn’t very good.

I’m not saying Claw is bad by any means. But he has glaring weaknesses that even the most scrubbiest can take advantage of with little effort.

True. I need to get more accustomed to the matchup.

I’m thinking it’s the lighter backflip. I imagine there’s an OS to deal with that. He’s really good at timing them though (he’s been playing this game much longer than I have so he has more experience with the tech and fundamentals of several characters) he also plays me the most so he’s used to my style.

You obviously don’t realize how shitty of a reversal EX Spiral is. Not only does it also get stuffed by jabs sometimes, it also loses to meaties, delayed throws, certain command grabs and normals with lots of active frames. At least EX Scarlet Terror comes out quickly enough to beat meaties.
