Hey, wasn’t there a thread around here showing how to properly scan pictures for editing in photoshop?
…
If you find it let me know. Last time I scanned something the penciling was easy to see in real life but the newer scanner fades out alot of the dark liners. I have to take pics on a high quality digital camera to get the right effect.
Here’s a sketch that I did last night, it’s not exactly what I’d call perfect. I’m also very aware that the dagger hand does look a bit man-ish and the foot is crooked and shit. I know this isn’t a pic dump thread that I’ve created. But I got this idea after playing as a Spy and realizing that TF2 didn’t have any female versions of the spy.
Your style is different than mine. How long have you been “Arting” ?
Since middle school up til 1st year. Like I said, I’m not into the whole realism thing, and that picture that I uploaded is kinda different than what I used to draw. In fact, that picture to me looks like I went on a whole new style.
Yeah but isnt it mad fun to pick a new art style. Only time it sucks is when you favorite / priority style starts to decay. Right now Im picking up the SF art styles but my Metal Gear solid art style and Onimusha (an artist from SF) are starting to lack.
It’s definitely different to pick up a new style, and I can feel that old style slowly trying to leave, but stay at the same time. I think what I’m now lacking is the patience. It’s really just me trying to finish a good looking picture in just under an hour. Which is probably why most of my pics look so half assed.
I borrowed my g/f’s copy of that How To Draw Anime book on Action moves and such, so far it ain’t looking that bad, I have a few problem with these books sometimes, but I guess it’ll come with practice.
Honestly, I draw my best stuff/ideas, when I am bored in class and I dont want to be there lol. At least I used to. I take my classes rather seriously these days.
For me, I gotta have some sort of direction before I draw because without that, well, whats the point. Drawing is about expression, and you dont express what you dont believe in. Having a direction, a story, something to say, some point to make visually, that is what has always inspired me. The rest comes automatically because I’m having fun. Its when art becomes mechanical that art becomes boring.
^ Some of my favorite drawings I dont scan… because they have tons of these light blue horizontal lines going through them. Notebook paper + being a bad egg = Great art.
Also one motivation I have for drawing is telling a story that hasnt been told yet. Have an idea or small one picture story you want to tell, and then draw it. When I think of new moves for Ryu I want to illustrate and see if its too far out or within character. Similar to the idea of fan fiction…very FEW people read fan fiction…but you can gain an audience ( people to tell a story to, friends with similar interests etc) but illustrating it. Most fan fictions go un-read but if you have artwork to back it up, it helps to make it some what more… credible.
I always have this image in my mind about what I want to draw, but when I try to apply it’s really difficult for me. It’s like I see all the bends and turns I have to do, all the anatomy is there, but FUCK it never transfers right on paper.
I feel you topic starter
it’s been that way for me
but I just look at other things and see how much I want to be good,
I look at video game artwork etc etc and say to myself “I would love for that to be my work someday” so I drive myself to draw.
