…after i realize i have no meter and no seals, iadb 236a/d, iadb->ad j.b, j.d or j.c, or some sort of wasted movement in the air to get better positioning without being blatant about it. iadb and block is a favored option too.
I play arakune and used to super jump/spit cloud but now it seems like everybody begins fights against arakune by trying to super jump themselves and smash my face. So now I back dash or if fighting a V-13 dash forward (almost always dodge sword spam and get in an early combo)
Dash>2C. Catches people who jump without barrier guarding, IAD forward, press buttons that aren’t A or B, or are making a sandwich because they play Tager. Loses to people throwing out jabs for no good reason, backdashes, IAD backwards, and Taokaka’s taunt. Becomes a mix-up game on block.
Arakune: dash-forward and a.fubuki does wonders used sparingly
Ragna: My 5C tends to beat ragna’s giving me a free freeze
Nu-13: Jump up and barrier or IAD with jumping B
Depends how well I know the other player. If I know how the other guy likes to open and its just a casual match, I usually take a gamble and try to counter what he does off the start.
Against Tager, I usually just dash up and fork because I’m an idiot and just try to rushdown that match and try to get far enough ahead before Tager has enough meter to do something stupid. Everyone else though I tend to play a more “safe” opening.
If it’s a Ragna I jump and dash forward while doing Noel’s aerial drive. Most Ragnas tend to dash punch at the beginning of the round. That aerial D always catches them.
If it’s a fight with any other character I usually dash back or run forward with Noel’s 6A.
Generally? I don’t really know. I try to open each round differently. If I go for the same thing again and again and again, I get predictable. I have my mind made up before the round starts. My thought process is something like this.
(As Arakune)
~When did I last try 3C?
~Dashing forward to appear behind them after their first move is fun, and usually equals a throw.
~Maybe I should just 6C, 5C, 2C it and see what happens?
~Could always jump and try to spike land on them after a canceled IAD
~Round is starting…um…
~“insert random intro move here” Ha! Even I didn’t know what I was going to do!
Seriously, If I can’t predict what I’m going to do at the start, then how in the world can they? Of course, once I get the motion of my fingers, I act accordingly.
Playing as Ragna I prefer to jump back and then foward dash mid-air with a C attack to start off with. Ive caught a few people off guard with this method at times.
