What characters have gotten the biggest nerf between two games?

Even Warzard characters? I think Alex was a little faster, SF2 Chars dished out stupid damage…

If this were a thread for most nerfed MOVES, I’d have to throw a vote in for Ryu’s Shin Shoryuken between CvS1 and 2. Yeah, CvS2 Ryu is worse than CvS1, but even within that game he didn’t take the worst raping. You’d have to award that to Yuri/King/Nak, with Vice and Guile also possibly weighing in (it wasn’t so much that they got nerfed, but the game system changed in a way that no longer favored them).

And I think you are remembering CvS1 Ryu a little too fondly. He was top second tier, but he was still second tier. Top 3? Nak, Guile, and possibly/probably EX Rog all rank before him. And he wasn’t that much of a ratio 1 killer, IIRC EX Yuri, EX Vice, King, and Blanka could all put up great fights.

Tiger shots to anyone who would deign to figure out why Urien says “bite me” in Spanish before a match.

Oh, right, another one…

'98 Shingo --> any other year after

You liked Elena’s distorted “robot fucking your ear” voice? really?

T5 Wang -> T5DR Wang (he lost recovery speed from certain attacks)
Xianghua SC2 -> Xianghua SC3
TTT Julia -> every other Tekken after that!
Cervantes SC2 -> Cervantes SC3 ( they changed his easy turn back stab to a harder command )
Malin 2k3 -> Malin XI

I never played 2nd Impact a lot, but what made Sean and Ibuki so powerful?

X didnt get much of a nerf between 2 and 3, while she maynot be ranked quite as high she is still really fucking good.

2I Ibuki had everything, she was faster then everyone else she did an insane amount of damage and had more priority then anyone else.

CvS2 Shin Akuma -> CFJ Shin Akuma:

-Loses 100% Corner Combos.
-Chain combos make it hard to do link combos that end with special.
-Takes even more damage.

CvS2 Bison -> CFJ Bison:

-Loses link combos involving Jabs.
-No Custom Combos.
-Mega Psycho Crusher seem to got weak in this. Also, I think its hard to juggle it after a Roundhouse Scissor Kick.

she was slow as fuck! Lost alot of her BnB combos to.

There was nothing wrong with her voice. Don’t make me post her vocals from the soundtrack…

ST Akuma --> MvC2 Akuma. Damn, that’s some serious nerfing.

Isn’t everyone faster in CFJ?

Maybe every machine I played had blown speakers because I recall it sounding like total shit.

Birdie was at his best in A1 by far, chain combos helped him a lot and he could TAP into grab really effectively.

My vote goes to Sagat from SSF2 to Super Turbo. He went from being hands down, the best character in Super, to one of the weaker, harder to use guys in ST. He has some things going for him like a really hard to block crossup, and a great super, but they gave him major recovery on the low tiger, and extended the vulnerability box way outward… he became much less effective as a fireballer and forced the player to use a greater variety of moves, which I agree with.

Obviously everyone picks O.Sagat, but he IS pretty dishonorable - he’s like picking easy-mode. I agree with the decision to weaken him, so having O.Sagat available makes it look like a wasted effort. I appreciate it when they weaken the overpowered strategies but still try to add something new so as to change the character rather than straight-up weaken him. I am aware that many players pick their favorite out of the strongest 3-4 characters in a given game. However those players aren’t always the majority, and there are others who play and like using characters regardless of their ‘tier’

Wait. What? Using O. Sagat may seem easy, but it all comes down to the execution on how consistent you can be with the tiger shots. You need to watch John Choi vs. Daigo at EVO2k5. ONE missed opportunity with a tiger shot and you will more than likely be punished. Just remember, O. Sagat doesn’t have a super. So, damage is pretty hard to come by if you plan on winning against someone who has a character with a super. It’s all about spacing with him. So, it’s not like that would be considered cheap. He has the fastest fireball in the game. So why not use it?

A3 birdie is better

A1 Birdie had:

-The most reach on his Murderer Chain - comparable to A3 Zangief’s ‘extended’ Strong SPD; nets him near a Level’s worth of Super gauge when landed

  • The most damaging version of his Murderer Chain: 3 = death. Compare this with A3 Birdie’s 6(?) to kill you
  • The TAH which could be used to effectively pass projectiles / and low(!) attacks. Very safe when blocked; add: Murder Chain mix-ups from this as well
  • The Fastest standing Fierce of the five Birdie incarnations
  • Frame-eating, safe-when-blocked, and huge amounts on invincibility on his Level 1 The Birdie
  • An overhead
  • An extremely quick and long-reaching crouching Forward and jumping Forward
  • An anti-air Bull Revenger (even at Level 1)
  • A faster and lower jump
  • Significantly higher damage on almost all moves compared to his A3 version. Also of note is his Level 1 Bull Revenger’s damage
  • Chain combos
  • No penalty for using an Alpha Counter, which also does more damage and has more applications
  • No penalty for blocking a bunch of hits
  • Safe (or very safe) when blocked Jab Bull Head

Everything A3 Birdie can do, his A1 counterpart can do much better and with greater ease, and without the use of meter. Unblockables and infinites are nice, but they don’t even begin to bring A3 Birdie into the same league as his A1 version. A1> A3> A2> A2G> A3U.

that’s what I was going to say :sad:

uh, does SF2WW Guile -> SF2CE Guile count? He could still compete in CE, but he wasn’t the godlike being he was in WW, especially if you take the glitches into effect.

also, XSF Cyclops -> MSF Cyclops. Even his idle crouching animation got nerfed :rofl:

That’s more than a possibility…it’s a fact.

Cervy did get nerfed but not that badly. The command isnt all that hard, just do 1a[B+K]

And that comment about Xianghua, could not be further from the truth. :arazz:

I don’t know about Guile. Going from unbelievably broken to still being one of the top 2 characters isn’t really much of a nerf.

Sean was great just because he was the same way Ken is in 3S. Solid all around, and had tons of ways to get into his super, plus his DP was awesome.
