I think legitimatizing the modding community through a workshop and a market would be ideal for the longevity and growth of our community. Stuff like Cyber Akuma, Ice Cream Sagat, Shao Kahn Seth and other hats made by the SF4 community are just too cool to ignore.

So yeah, bowl of noodle soup is just not enough.

Big draw of CS and TF2 are the casual modes and I **guess[/b Capcom could] do some sort of Omega Mode shit or maybe incorporate a tag mode. I see what you’re saying but I don’t think it would work with a fighting game. I would like to be proven wrong though.

you cant compare dota 2 netcode to fighting games

you can play dota 2 just fine with a ping of like 200

Yeah, if you’re shit at the game.

I’d just like to point out -I can’t find the article- but in Resident Evil Revelations 2 Capcom has implemented some pay to win bullshit. If you’re playing Raid mode and you want to continue after dying, you have the option of buying an item that allows you to continue. To be fair, you can earn these items normally just by playing the game.

So with that in mind, I think that kills the idea that Capcom would allow any kind of free fan-made costumes.

Selling cosmetics as DLC is part of their profit model since SF4, I doubt anyone actually expects Capcom to allow that.
Like Daemon above said, a system where Modders can submit their work and Capcom selling them (for a reasonable price) sounds ideal.

Is that even possible on console?

Fan made stuff would work if they had Steam Workshop support and the best of the fan made stuff becomes official and both parties (Capcom and the creator) split the profit.

It’s worth noting that on the Xbox One, players can create new gamertags whenever they want and have full Gold status as long as there’s a Gold account on the Xbox. I’ve already made plenty of funny names on my Xbox One. Smurfing will easily become an issue on Xbox One because of this, not sure how PS4 works though.

This makes me feel that a system that takes into account your recent performance may be better than a long-term ranking system. I remember there being some kind of tournament mode in Vanilla Street Fighter where you had to win 5 games in a row or something? It seemed to match people based on how far they were into the tournament “brackets” and a system similar to that could potentially deal with smurfs since they would be matched via recent performance just like anybody else. All you have to do at that point is come up with a way to deal with sandbaggers.

Edit

Maybe simply having a “winners bracket” and “losers bracket” in matchmaking is enough, where you drop back and forth between the two when you win or lose a match.

Only the account that bought PSN+ has PSN+ on PS4, even if it’s pretty easy to create new PSN accounts from any region.

That said, the XBox smurfing wont be an issue anyway since the game is not on XBox One.

  • No pay to win
  • No lackluster response times to BLATANT issues.
Specifically referring to pc netplay. Capcom rarely brings it up even though it is a huge problem and when they release “fixes” they either last for a week or stop working and then capcom completely ignores the subject…

Straight up the street fighter franchise could be 10x bigger than it is if they made some of those changes, Capcom needs to step their game up

-better netcode
-more gameplay options
-better tutorials. They really need this, they need a way to ease newbies into the game, atm it can be pretty intimidating compared to other esport games
-agree about community made skins. It makes their life easier by allowing the community to create some amazing works and vote on their favourites, its a win win for everyone.
-maybe a crate system like csgo/dota that gives you more incentive to play, helps keep the community numbers up

this company wasn’t able to add a Rematch button online in SF4 after 6 years… and they botched the netcode when moving the same exact engine from GFWL to Steam

i’d lose all hope and expectations at this point…

I don’t really see what Valve’s Dota model and implementation has to do with SF. The only thing Dota 2 does to possibly draw in more casual players is offer a much more generous alternative to LoL’s business model. And the reason they get away with that is because they get a cut from every item sold on the market place, and they sell tickets to events and other items in the Dota store. And the genre itself has millions to tens of millions of players online everyday, unlike fighters. MOBAs to me feel like a more accessible fighter by “virtue” of having less to learn about each character, less muscle memory to build, and teammates who can possibly carry bad players. Obviously map knowledge and different strategies are a huge part of it, but when we are talking about low-level matchmaking, those things don’t really matter much anyway.

I think there are ways to make the genre more accessible without dumbing it down to Divekick levels of failure. But ultimately there would need to be tens of thousands of players online and a really awesome matchmaking system and netcode to really make people stick with it. And while the latter is possible, how do they achieve the former without spending millions on advertising(which might not even work)?

There are a few nice things about Dota 2. For example the in game community tab. You can create clans in game, you can create tournaments, you can have logos for your clan which are then displayed in game. Apart from that the parties are nice too. I also like the fact that you can search for a game and at the same time watch other people play.

Things I dislike are the way the workshop works, which was suggested by op. Chivalry uses the same workshop system and you will just end up having to pay 5€ for a single skin. I think it is better to add workshop support like in Insurgency or Left 4 Dead 2, so you can download content for free instead of forcing people to pay for it.

Not everything about Dota 2 is good to be honest. It’s free and therefore it has a horrible community.

But clans have never been an FGC thing.

I don’t know if that is necessarily because it is free. Free games do tend to have that problem, but it seems more like it’s just because it’s popular. CSGO has a pretty bad community, and it has never been free.

The closest thing I can think of is the ‘teams’ in 3D fighters. Its a neat feature that sort of gives a sense of belonging in the community.

A lot of the community features for dota2/csgo just doesn’t work or make sense under FGs which by nature are 1v1 games.
Perhaps the bigger factor is that dota2 is backed by Valve, a very flexible company that can run their business model longterm on their own flexible steam platform.

Can’t say the same for Capcom or namco or whatever under Sony’s (comparatively) restrictive platforms and public company business model that has to get dat short term profit and keep the shareholders happy.

Despite those differences, FGC is still growing annualy. Evo stream numbers are rising every year. Tournament payouts are higher than ever. Look @ the evo Sunday hall tickets sold out and over 1000 entarants already for USF4…on PS4! These are all good signs of growth.

The release of SF5 is going to get another new wave of players…very exciting!

When I say bad I don’t mean toxic, I mean they do bad things like being afk in a ranked match, losing on purpose and being totally stupid in general. In cs:go it is not that common to see people that make you lose on purpose, since people paid for that account and they can’t just create a new one when they get banned.

Also cs:go is probably not the best example here since that game was sold for like 4€ at some point or even less and people stacked dozens of accounts. I also have 3 cs:go accounts.

200 ping is pushing it, but cmon, 2 frames of lag can easily change the outcome of a street fighter match.

SF4 has multiple gametype modes but only 2 are used. I’d like less useless modes if they are going to have anything more than Ranked and Endless.

As for ranked, I’d like a better system for matching players up along with better made menu system in ranked lobbies.

I’d like to be able to see a player’s PP/BP, main character, regional location, disconnect % and if the player is playing on wireless or hardwired the very instant he joins my lobby without having to hit any menu option.

I think the costume DLC is pretty cool and would welcome it again in SF5. It would also be cool if they gave us some unlockable costumes as well. I also like the community made costume suggestion, but they should make it like a monthly contest with Capcom as the judges. Then the winner would get a prize or something and his/her costume bundled into the latest DLC.
