Anyone see Combofiend’s video on Ryu changes. He says Ryu players were begging to have j.mp buffed lol no we were not. Combofiend is such a stupid faggot.
Made this reset video today, although it uses 2 hits EX DP for juggle instead of 1st hit like in recent mod update today and arcade change-log. Either way, just a way to get some ideas of EX DP FADC shenanigans.
Atm, I’m testing with the supposedly 1-hit EX DP FADC mix-up. You can still potentially kill Akuma in corner specifically with the Cl. St.Roundhouse mix-up (having 4 bars, ending with EX Tatsu in corner into ultra.)
About that, Daigo’s most played character is now Evil Ryu. He’s got over 623(76.08 win %) matches with him compared to 383 with Ryu(79.9 win %). The thing is that he started off playing Ryu the vast majority of the time. So it seems like he’s been almost exclusively devoted to playing Evil Ryu lately. Does this mean he’s switching permanently? I wouldn’t say that’s the case just yet. He did briefly main Akuma when AE 2012 came out. But you can argue that Evil Ryu is a better fit for how Daigo plays Shoto’s then Akuma is. Of all the Shoto’s, stylistically Evil Ryu and Ryu are the most similar IMO so it does make sense for him if he makes that permanent switch.
Knowing which character a single player is going to main shouldn’t be a big deal, but it’s Daigo so I can’t help but be interested. I main’d in Vanilla but switched to Evil Ryu in AE so I’m pretty curious as someone who plays the character he might pick up and would love to see what he can do with him.
I saw the footage of Daigo’s Evil Ryu he was dropping combos all over the place and lost to Tinshi who is from New York don’t know how good that guys is but Daigo’s E. Ryu was pretty bad.
He has a 76% win rate with Evil Ryu. He can have bad games like everybody else. Remember seeing all those uploads of his matches on Xbox Live? This is a similar situation to that. He never won a single match in any of those uploads because he never uploads his wins and people would upload theirs when they beat him. Nothing against Tinshi, he’s a pretty good player. But one match doesn’t tell the whole story. Going by the story on Eventhubs today, it sounds like he will be using Evil Ryu in Ultra, at first anyways.
@Shinebox I still think Ibuki will be a bad match up for Evil Ryu, but I don’t think Akuma is that bad anymore. Regardless if he goes with Evil Ryu, I think he will stick with him exclusively in tournaments.
So now that Dudley’s hp and Guy’s elbow drop have their hitboxes extended downwards does that mean cr.mk will get beat out? Wtf am I supposed to do in those matchups now. Cr.mk is pretty much all I used.
I know this post is a month old, but as a Guile main, I know that feel bro.
When I look at the Ryu changes, I can only think of one thing: Capcom had no idea what to do with him so they gave him a bunch of bizarre, useless buffs. It’s like they wanted to make it look like they made him better but avoided actually doing so.
meterless vortex, 2 unblockables with Axe Kicks and the same unblockables with throw as Ryu, plus many ambiguous jump ins with HK. c.HP punishes a whiffed slide. Better ground OSes due LK. tatsu. Evil Ryu have many more opportunities to deal damage on Ibuki and he does way more damage per opportunity than Ryu does.
Anyone notice that if you do an ex srk fadc (on second hit) ultra 1 it now does over 430 (maybe 428 did this over an hour ago) damage. Compared to 405 in ae2012 that’s a nice damage increase. I assume it has something to do with the new juggle properties of the ex srk. I really don’t think ryu is as bad as people think in Ultra. He can still hit like a truck and DWU makes the game much more of a fundamentals game which is what ryu excels at. Plus his 2f faster ex fireball is a bigger buff than most people realize.
My brothers got the digital version and I went over to their place and played it for 15 minutes before heading off to work. I didn’t do any huge testing with U2 to see how good it is. Instead I’ve mainly focused on the c.mk buff, which to me is the Most Significant Change for Ryu. Thus far, I really the c.mk buff for giving Ryu more safety at distances now, it imo almost feels kind of like 2012 Evil Ryu c.mk into Hadouken, although “maybe” not as good, but USF4 Evil Ryu got even better in the c.mk into Hadouken department due to buff so yeah.
C.mk w/ the new faster Ex-Hadouken is even better now, but in a game where everyone keeps saying that Meter is so important…was this a real buff then? I don’t know, since I didn’t get to play against anybody besides asking my brothers to try and do a few things.
Shoryuken cancel into juggles is fun…but seriously after tinkering with this, I really don’t believe it’ll be that effective other then for Combo Videos imo at this point. Due to the unsafeness of Shoryuken being -5, this change/buff becomes even less significant, and almost an unnecessary change because I don’t see any benefit from this. Unless other Ryu players can find anything off of this that’s actually viable in actual high level play I think this was just a gimmicky buff.
If it does become effective and I see Ryu players jumping all over the place with mp cancels, I’ll honestly drop Ryu all together just because of this. He shouldn’t BE a character that should rely upon such things, he’s always been a very grounded person and if it were to magically derail into that direction (which I highly doubt due to what I said above) then I’ll start a riot.
Basically put, Ryu’s footsies just feels slightly better. On another note, one of my younger brothers who played Ryu like me has now opted to switch over to Evil Ryu. I’m saying this now, I just watched my brothers duking it out, but Evil Ryu is a Flat Out Monster in USF4. Yes it’s early, and I’m sure I’m jumping the gun but I predict that Evil Ryu is going to be Top-5 at worse for the Tier List, while Ryu to me at the very most will be a High-Mid character. Of course I would love to be proven wrong on his placing, but I don’t have serious doubts, and I’ll still play him, because I’m too loyal.
I probably won’t be able to touch this game until at least next weekend due to my work, but I’m hoping other people who’ve gained access to USF4 can now start putting up what they’ve experienced. Once again, don’t hate, I only played for as I said…15 Minutes…which gives almost no real basic understanding besides vague assumptions. This ain’t 10 or 20 years ago in which I had 10x more free time to play fighting games & posting up thorough statements pertaining to Ryu.
the cr. mk “buff” is not too significant. i was playing last night and guiles and codys were still abusing flash kicks and zonks during blockstrings. the ex hado is nice but the fact that you pretty much need to keep 3 bars stocked at all times now doesnt make it that meaningful.
what i do think is very useful now though is the ex tatsu vacuum buff. you can now whiff punish at max distance with cr. mk into ex tatsu and send them flying away.
as far as the new characters go, i have yet to fight decapre or elena. hugo seems pretty free. he seemed like i could zone him all day. poison has pretty fast recovery on her projectiles making them hard to punish. rolento is a tricky one. he has some quirky stuff and his ultra punishes fireballs, and holy shit does it do a ton of damage.
That’s because it’s not 100% safe so it’s obvious you can still get punished for it at certain distances, however the fact that I can utilize c.mk into Hadouken at more interval distances already makes it much better then before. Not only is it a footsie improvement in the neutral field but also a buff to his corner game and by far is the best buff he got in the entire arsenal. The ex-tatsu hurricane kick improvement is nice but as an option that uses meter it’ll be situational, in a game where meter is so important heavy now.
It seems slower paced then AE:2012 thus far or at least until people start finding some ridiculous options, but Red Focus could potentially change that concept with tide turning combos which is something I’m not going to look forward too.
