Just looking for peoples opinions and what are good controllers for streetfighter etc, for the PC. Like D-pad obviously being the main issue here.
Its annoying when browsing control pads and looking up reviews as they never talk about how good the d-pad is for fighting games etc.
So I thought I’d ask here, and hell if anyone knows a good website I can order from that deliver to EU that’d be sweet too. Playasia seem to be outa stock on everything
Be sweet if you could test control pads out in a shop and see how good they are at pulling off a few fireballs before you buy them. Feels like such a gamble, trying to judge the d-pad from just looking at it
Oh and I know the saturn pad is meant to be the best and all, but its not like I’m gonna find that on anywhere but ebay and I’ve no interest in ebay atm.
The only controller I ever bought was that $20 Logitech. For me, it got the job done and I dunno if I grew to like it or what but sometimes I would rather use it than the PS2 pads just because of the D-Pad.
I didn’t care too much for the square hole that housed the analog stick though. I ended up taking it apart and rounding it out with a pocket knife. Wasn’t too smooth, but I found it a lot better for 360 moves [Gief].
Now that I think about it, the square hole could probably come in handy for Boxer, almost imitating a square gate in some ways.
I used it for about three months till I opted to move on to a joystick.

I’m actually asking for a friend of mine as I use a PS3 pad myself although interested in maybe seeing if theres better, my friend however doesnt really like the PS style d-pads as they wreck his thumbs after awhile.
The d-pad on that looks like something he’d like anyway.
There’s an old topic about the Sega USB pads that showed up on ebay a while ago. There are currently tons still on ebay but unfortunately the prices have gone up quite a bit since they first appeared. Consensus seems to be they are fantastic pads in line with what you would expect from a 6 button saturn pad.
Ah, I must have missed that in the op, sorry man. Well as far as not going the ebay route… I have owned a Saitek P880 for a few years and always loved it. It’s very easy on the thumbs too. Probably cost me like $20 and it’s lasted ages.
I don’t think that particular model is being made anymore since it’s pretty old BUT there is a newer version out called the Saitek P990 that seems to be just more of the same, which is good. That’s available on Amazon.
Use ebay and get one of those Saturn pads. Whatever personal reason you have for not using ebay should be ignored. Unless someone messed with your paypal or something, I guess.
I have used a logitech precision. I got it at Target for 2 bucks. It was great for the price, but the dpad started braking after about 1-2 months of use.
Also, half circles sometimes do not register due to the dpad mechanics. I was forced to execute them slowly on the dpad.
Get the Saturn pad. Saturn pads are exceptional for SF.
I don’t own a credit card atm, I have to borrow one to buy shit online hence no paypal for me.
I know a lot of people on here collect arcade sticks etc, but it’d be freakin sweet if there was someone who collected PC control pads and made youtube reviews for each one concentrating on the d-pad with SF in mind.
Hell maybe someday if I’ve spare cash and free time I’d buy a few controllers and do it myself hehe.
Looking at all those different styles of D-pads, I’d love to know what’d each one feels like for street fighter.

I also have this pad laying around from yeaaaaaars ago and I tried to use it there just to see how the d-pad would work for SF but alas the pad is too old and theres no working drivers for xp or vista.

Also, you should really have a friend use their CC/PayPal and get you a Saturn pad off ebay. It is totally worth it.
I have a BUNCH of USB controllers. I should update my site with more reviews, but I haven’t had the time nor the interest in doing so for standard USB controllers.
Since Tekken 6 is coming out for Xbox 360 I’m going to be reviewing 360 control pads (I have almost every single one that came out lol), and 360 accessories as well…
I have my eye on your SFIV pads btw markman I’d love if there was a thread for the controllers since the one now is really about the arcade sticks.
Of course that’s understandable and I fully respect arcade stick lovers and so forth but there are a hell of a lot of people that only play fighting games with pads and there’s gonna be more once SFIV comes out bringing a new breed of gamers into fighting games
Anyway I’ll see if one of my mates has a PP account, one of them might and I’ll ask if I can use his.
But if not I’m just gonna go for one of those pads mentioned above, or 2 rather (one for me and one for him)
Btw I have another friend who was away for 2 years there but is now back and I’ve been showing him 3s and ST and now he’s really looking forward to hd remix and SFIV.
He’s got a 360, so the issue of a pad with a decent d-pad is there for him. But I can’t seem to find any 3rd party 360 pads anywhere, and from what I’ve read, the new 360 d-pad is not much better then the old one.
So I’ll be interested to see your reviews for sure.
