There’s not a whole lot about SFV that doesn’t excite me tbh. If i had to choose it’d be the v-system and their approach to characters in general.
He specifically mentioned SF5’s ‘long blockstun’, which is what makes this potential scenario theoretically possible. I say theoretically because there’s no indication that SF5 plays like this. Even at the extreme end of the blockstun spectrum (SF2), where blocking is basically a form of self-imposed crowd control, this doesn’t happen. He was exaggerating to get his point across.
Yeah, I was actually going to mention his A3 fetish in the context of his complaint about long blockstun, but I didn’t want to draft a novel. I think it’s pretty clear that he wants a game where he can style on lesser beings with raw execution and have the rounds end as quickly as possible (shorter timers was one of his suggestions).
He wasn’t exaggerating. The version of SFV he was commenting on was extremely slow. Impact freeze was about 1/3 higher than SFIV. Chun could do normal, legs, normal and because of impact freeze the sequence much longer than what it would in another game. Crush counter hit stun was basically a freeze state. Ryu had SFIV Sagat-like walkspeeds. The game was just really slow and boring. Capcom’s changed the stuff he was referring to (Ryu is faster, impact freeze was dropped even though it’s still too high IMO, and they even added an Alpha Counter!), so raising what he said now is a moot point, especially considering that he wasn’t the only person to bring it up.

There’s a clear shift in design direction from the original alpha build shown at Capcom Cup to what we see now. The older build, aside from being slower, seemed to be more combo oriented for one, with longer combos and juggles.

To me at least that sounds more like an issue having to do with how far you’re pushed on block by various moves.
It might just be on the shorter end at the moment which means constant offense is possible.
However it is disconcerting and I hope this is not the case. V-reversals seem like the obvious answer and because of that, must not really be the answer.
This sort of problem is where parry in 3S really shines. Because of the potential for parry, all offense is broken up into bits and pieces and defense is extremely active.
The ‘You go, I go, You go, I go’ feel of some other fighting games is bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh.
edit: caught up on other posts. good to know it isn’t like that anymore.

The China stage theme has some potential. Other than than – absolutely nothing.
Removal of some option selects excites me, eg. crouch teching.
If I ever had to call one thing ‘cheap’ in the entire SF series, it would be option selects. Keep the guessing and anticipating game alive. That is Street Fighter.
The sounds on hit/block in this game really make my panties wet. Idk why but they just sound so good
im excited about the emphasis on the fighters being unique. lord knows they tried to make a character(s) “yours” with sfxt with the sigh gem system, but the simplicity of the v-system seems brilliant. the game breakdown they displayed during the capcom evo panel really gave me a new found assurance that its gonna be really cool.

The online play. Specifically this new netcode Capcom is talking about.
If it genuinely delivers a solid experience (and is obviously backed up with a solid game that plays saner than SFIV) I think this is going to be lots of fun.
Until I can get a taste of the game’s ‘feel’ I can’t really amp myself for anything in particular about it. All signs seem to be pointing to a much better game (than SFIV) overall however so I guess above all I’m most excited about what is looking like a worthy entry being dropped into the franchise. There’s something about the traditional leaning this entry has over SFIV that I like too. Good damage, no FADC, jab mashing seems out and normals appear to actually have block stun. All great in my book.
I like a more faster paced game.not mvc3 fast but above turtle levels of play

I’m hoping for a strong SF3 presence but not exactly expecting it.
Sean as the next character revealed?
The series of the roster has already been confirmed. 8 SF2 characters, 4 Alpha characters and 4 characters new to the IP will appear at launch (16). No SF3 characters till after launch. Luckily after paying 60 bucks for the game it works like a MOBA where all additional characters over the life of the game will be free and earned with in game money. If you can’t wait or just don’t want to put in the time you can purchase, but otherwise everything else content wise will be free and there won’t be any Super/Ultra version to alienate the online/offline audience.
Best part is even people who havent played for 10 years, can jump right back in without compatibility issues and go into a match without buy the super/mega/ultra/arcade editon/turbo/2050 version first.
Pretty cool stuff.

When was the starting cast having 8 SF2 characters confirmed. All we saw was 8 slots with a specific color, but no actual indication of what that represented. I don’t recall anything ever said about that being only SF2 characters in either panel at SDCC or Evo.
If it’s SF2, then I’m banking on Gief, Sim, Guile.
If the green spots mean returning from SF4, then I’d put Juri in one of those 3 spots.
I get the feeling that they might slowly release story content over time as well. So the initial launch won’t have a complete story. It makes sense then, if Urien is part of the story that he comes later.

Whoa what I didn’t see anything about 8 sf2…
really? move on capcom…
people have been saying all this junk about the brazil game show.
the assumption is of course blanka but the brazil stage they showed reminds me a lot of Sean. An urban brazilian setting doesn’t really say ‘Blanka’ imo.
Oh well don’t quote me on the 8 SF2 characters thing. I thought I remember that slot being listed as SF2 characters. Would make sense since the first 4 characters revealed in that slot (Ryu, Chun, Cammy, Bison) are in fact Super Turbo characters. Nash and Birdie should be 2 of the 4 Alpha characters and Necalli would be the first of the 4 new to the IP.
