Were there any reasons why the N64 COMPLETELY lacked any 2D fighters?

Looks like Val might be top tier in that game haha.

Mischief makers was awesome 2-d goodness.

I agree with whoever said that the controller was made for Aliens.

lack of enough storage.

games like resident evil 2 had to compress the FMVs so the game could fit in the cartridge.what made the videos lose quality. Don’t know if 2d games require that much storage though

oh god quest 64
:frowning:

Honestly, I don’t know about this talk about the controller, I didn’t have any more problem with playing with it. But I never got the chance to play many 2D fighting games with it, so maybe…

I think the cartridge was the main hurdle, with the advent of CDs, arcade quality music and animations could get crammed in by the boat load with no hassle or extra cost. Why do the extra work and pay Nintendo to put out a version of a 2D classic when the game won’t sale that much (if anything at all) on the N64 in the Japanese market.

The N64 had a decent number of 3D fighters (actually better than GC) but I think any possible 2D fighters at that time would be scared off by the amount they would have had to pay to put out a decent game, since I remember hearing the bigger the game, the more they had to pay.

well i don’t know if lack of space on the cartridge counts because most of the rom file sizes for games like street fighter alpha 3 or xmen vs sf can easily fit in the 30-50 mb space of the n64 cartridge.

Maybe it was because Nintendo are dicks to people who make games for their systems?

Had a 2D and 3D mode I’m pretty sure. How the fuck did I get neg repped? :lame:

the 6 buttons always made me wonder if there would be a fighter eventually coming out (from capcom) but then, I had second thoughts due to capcom not interested in making games for the 64.

other than that im going with TS on this one, I think Nintendo for some reason never shared a lot of knowledge to third parties. Most of the time leaving them in the dust.

As for 2d on the 64, i think tha towards the end of its life a few 2d schumps began surfacing, ironically the only one that comes to mind is bangai o.
