Well...played SF4 for this first time today

OMG, truth.

Ok, that wasn’t even a counterpoint. You just said the same thing that DS said.

Ok, well, to add to all this, I really like 3S. But I have a love hate with it because it’s so fucking defense based. (and let’s be real, SF games are not usually defense based)

I really despise the parry. With a passion. And I realized this when I started playing the game online, because nobody tries to parry as much because of lag. it’s fucked up, because people not trying to parry made the game more enjoyable. Fireballs actually meant something, chipping was a reliable way to K.O.,jump in’s became less safe, etc…

The only thing worse than the parry was the red parry. Fuck that shit. If I have someone pinned down in a block, they should not be able to punish me in the middle of my fucking attack.

And projectiles didn’t just suck in 3S because of the parry. They were horrible for other reasons, like, being unsafe on block (and on HIT in many cases) not doing any damage, etc…

I didn’t say thats what makes it deep. I said that it takes execution and skill, so why do so many people say 3s is so easy to win at? I also never said that 3s was the greatest game ever, I just enjoy it. I also enjoy ST. The differences between them are very noticeable and I don’t understand why people say "It isn’t street fighter!"It makes me think that you believe the ONLY street fighter game is ST. Its bad on both sides and no one is innocent in this fight except people like Sabre. I won’t say I am because I didn’t like ST at one time but I enjoy it just as much as 3rd strike, I just believe one to be more complex and have a deep strategy just as much as ST, I just believe that 3s takes a little bit more since you have to read your opponent moreso than locking him down with fireball traps and zones. Besides, I don’t know about you but I don’t like things like random damage OUT OF MY CONTROL determining if I win or not.

usually, getting hit will determine if you win or not.

you don’t get hit, random damage doesn’t affect you.

I see what he’s trying to say; what it you’re the one doing the hitting and the enemy doesn’t die like you expected them to because of random damage?

But none of these games are without their flaws. And none of them except cvs2 (lol, bait.) really sucks.

bites

I hate you lol.

CvS2 is awesome, stop baiting.

You know the random damage thing exists in 3s too right.

lol, NO IT AIN’T!

But I mentioned that game because people are whinging about 3S not playing like street fighter. Some of those said complainers are CvS2 fans. I find that ironic.

actually theres 3 different arcades all with cabinets

lesters in burnaby (american sticks…2 dollars a play…wtf)
CHQ in metrotown in burnaby (jpn sticks 75 cents a play)
e-spot in richmond (donno)

Where did OP go?

Sabre killed him with words of wisdom!

Man, why do we even have fireballs in real life…words kick everyones ass.

  1. Chun 2. Chun 3. Chun 4. Chun 5. Akuma/Chun.

<3 3s

Vaginas are made from ham sandwiches! Top THAT! I love a good round of make bullshit claims just as much as the next guy.

Library closed, curfew is up, or some fitting combination of the two.

I can honestly say that the best fighting game of all time was pit fighter…

What really got me was how he compared fighting games to real life fighting. Because, you know, most fighting games are SOOOO realistic.

Waitaminute, Sabre just paraphrased Viscant’s post from an old thread lol.

I just don’t get how he can call it the greatest fighting game of all time. I guess it’s easy when you assume every other game is shit because they require thinking, but eh? I mean, Super Turbo has been played in tournaments world wide for 14 years now, and while 3rd Strike is close behind that (if you count Japanese tournaments, afaik it didn’t hit it big over here immediately tournament wise), I honestly doubt it’ll make it to 14 years over here. I could honestly say I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me Super Turbo would be in EVO 14 years from now, if HD Remix didn’t come out, because it’s built THAT good. 3rd Strike had 5 chuns in the top 5, and nothing about it is ever going to change. Sure nothing about Super Turbo will prolly change, but each character has an honest chance at the gold if you know your matchups and it’s just way more balanced. You can only really say the same for 3s if the opponents are terrible or if you magically parry 100% of their shit perfectly. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me 3rd Strike is going to be retired in EVO 2k9 or EVO 2k10 to be honest. It seems like its on the end of its line (like CvS2), especially with the like 60 new games coming out. Meanwhile, I’m sure if the HD Remix mode turns out to be bad (not likely) the EVO folk will set it to OG mode and play it for another 14 years. Because Super Turbo has always been worth that slot by the audience being huge, the game balance, or the strategic and mental depth…it didn’t need Daigo to full parry a super to make it good and popular.

i honestly don’t understand why st is that great? it seems so boring to me.

^^^
If ST is boring it’s because you don’t have any friends.

Has there ever been a well written and thought out post in defense of 3S? I would really like to read it.
