Well...played SF4 for this first time today

the op is a typical 3s player that didnt really start playing til 3s. And will never move on. It’s almost the same for anyone that started with 3s. They jump into another sf and realize that they all require pretty different skillsets(for example, zoning and space control, which 3s has none) than 3s.

It’s fine if you don’t like sf4. But it’s apparent that you don’t like sf4 cuz it isn’t 3s or close to it, and that it plays more like a typical sf game. So of course you won’t like it. I know many pro 3s only players, and they all hate sf4, cuz of the same thing. But they also hate a2, a3, st, hf, etc. They basically hate sf, in general.

deep does not = good. You may think ST is simple, but it really isn’t. THere’s a lot of things in the game that you have to learn, that is not necessary to learn in 3s since 3s has a universal counter system(parry) that every character can use, which gives every character the same option to beat certain things. Generic example: “how do I beat this jumpin with ryu?” “parry it!”; “how do I beat this same jumpin with twelve?” “Parry it.” While people like to claim that parry makes 3s so “uber” deep, it actually homogenizes some strategies, and it also eliminates zoning and space control. With that said, seriously, why is there even fireballs in this game?

So in the end, a 3s player will always and only be a 3s player. That’s fine, but I guess you get left behind when the game starts to get dropped from tournaments. Your loss man.

To give the illusion of it being a real SF game.

All single hit projectiles are a complete waste. Even simple classic combos like cr.forward x hadouken will often get you fucked up because it doesn’t move you opponent back far enough and the hit stun/recovery is so bad.

You pretty much won the thread with that post. Words of wisdom as usual.

Ok, so let me summarize this thread:

Third Strike is the greatest SF game ever made, in terms of depth, and everything because…
Unblockables and Genei Jin require excellent execution. This is what apparently makes a fighting game deep.
ST sucks because everyone only has 2-3 moves. Anyone can win because of the high damage. ST Tourneys = coinflips.
Being able to punish stupid jumps is a bad thing.

Fantastic thread so far, A+++++++, please continue.

The biggest issue I have is how parry gives everyone an out, regardless of character design and individual strategy. I’ll take ST’s randomness anyday of the week.

3s is so boring for me right now, so simple game, just one super art,WTF!!,uninterested characters,boring music and that parry system is getting annoying but oh well I’ll still give it a try because I’m not like you I play everything
