Up until recently I really had no intention of giving SF4 a chance, I still think the animations on a lot of the moves are awful including most of Blanka’s stuff from the awkward look of his balls, his really slow throw, his really ugly low sliding moves and a lot more. Aside from just animations, the way the jumps look and how the screen keeps jumping everytime that occurs made it look even worse, but despite all of that the new sakura matches showing off some of Abel’s mix-up ability with the use of save canceling is starting to look extremely interesting, especially if that translated to the other characters as well.
Still I think a lot of people aren’t giving 3S it’s due either, the game has spawned a lot of hardcore fans and the game is just as much a rock, paper, scissor game as most SF games. Parrying makes things less formulaic because people can adapt to old block strings and it forces for players to change up their game all the time. Probably one of the hardest games to keep up with at a competitive level which is only ruined by the fact that we have Yun and Chun and now to a lesser degree Ken dominating the rest of the cast so hard. If they weren’t as strong we’d see more diversity, sadly this is the case, but still doesn’t mean the game doesn’t deserve any credit for what it is. It’s still a good game and people can whine and complain about it all day, won’t stop making it true.
As for and back to SF4, wait a year or 2. If we’re not still playing the game or a revision then you can start disregarding it, the game has been out less than a year and everybody knows it takes years to crack open any good game.
Nobody can say what the greatest fighting game of all time is, but it sure as hell isn’t the unbalanced mindgame heavy mess that 3S is. Great game, but it has too many problems to be given such a title.
…although, bashing it by saying HIGH/LOW/THROW is just as stupid as saying it was the greatest.

Personally, I do think 3s is a deeper game than ST. ST is just simple. Thats it. 6 buttons and 2-3 moves per character. Simple. Simple =/= deep. I’m not hatin on the game but if 3s was so simple and easy to win then why can’t I do the Urien unblockable or the Genei-jin ender let alone use Yun to save my life? ST is easy to win at with its high damage and simple combos. At a higher level, I still think 3s is a deeper game. ST you lock down. 3s you have to change. When you have to actually think, thats deep. When you can win with almost mechanical methods, thats simplicity. 1st one, 3s. 2nd one, ST.
Anyway, I can’t wait to play SF4 but from the direct feed vids I was sent today it seems really generic. I don’t know why, just doesn’t seem right to me.

To a certain degree, I agree with this. But as it stands right now it’s not off to a good start. For one, 3D graphics are NEVER a good start ('sup EX3?), and for two…what exactly is so appalling about the 3S characters that they had to be abolished from the franchise completely? I realize the game is supposed to be based in between 2 and 3, but so what? None of the 3S characters were born until the exact moment in which 3S take place in the timeline?
It all just smells of Capcom trying to forget about 3S, because it didn’t make them enough money.

What’s wrong with mindgames? They exist in real fighting, whether it be boxing, MMA, fencing, what have you. Why shouldn’t they exist in a fighting game?

The characters weren’t popular in the US. 3S players especially should know how much slack the game gets for it’s departure from the SF series. It’s not warranted in my opinion because with all the complaints about how stupid a lot of the characters in 3S look, the same can be said with a lot of the characters in the Alpha series (with standouts such as R. Mika and Birdie). Of course to most people who can actually play fighting games, it comes down to character gameplay designs and the deep down we all know the truth. How well a game plays and how great a character is designed has nothing to do with popularity of the character and how well the game will sell. That is based purely on visuals and 3S’ visual character designs were highly unappealing to a lot of people.
Honestly though, if you care about games, support SF4. Once Capcom feels like it’s worth it to make fighting games that will be released in North America again, we will get post-3S SF games (or at least we can hope).
…first off, real fighting is nothing like playing a fighting game. NOTHING like it. saying this as someone who takes MMA himself.

Street Fighter is like Final Fantasy. They share a couple things in common like some semblance of a story and characters. In reality, you should all leave the different iterations the fuck alone and stop trying so hard to compare them. Think of every SF game as a brand new game with cameos, then play the game, learn the system and then build an opinion and pretend it’s a religion and keep it to your damn self.
Because I’ve come to realize making threads like this makes no difference no matter what board they’re on whether it’s on GD or in the SF4 section won’t change the replies and the same shit would happen if you just posted this shit on GFaqs, 99% useless replies.
